Good evening!
Recovery day - 30 min Pilates and 10 min barre. 25ish minute walk in the afternoon. It was 35 degrees but I did it anyway and I think it definitely helped my mental state. I feel like I'm getting colder as I get older though? IDK. But I don't tolerate the cold like I used to.
B - rye toast, turkey sausage, fruit L - leftover shrimp and grits D - air fried breaded chicken sandwich I saw on AshleyTracksPoints TikTok. served with a little mayo, dill pickles, and a drizzle of hot honey. It was so good! S - another mug cake. All I want when I am this cold is warm cake at night lol.

Only a 20 min run with Alex today, then 20 min arms with Callie (and my 5yo 😐) A Crumbl cookie place just opened up here so we tried it today. They’re… fine. I’m not sure I see the hype. We got a Crumbl here last year and I agree that they're really nothing special. I'm spoiled though because we have a local place that opened during the pandemic doing a similar concept but so much better (and cheaper).

No dedicated exercise today but food was within macros, so all good.
I have another swollen lymph node at the base of my left ear which is making me a little anxious. I'm sure it's probably just residual from being sick (though it didn't pop up until a week after I improved), but I have several others that have swelled and remained enlarged (I've been examined and checked and the doctor wasn't concerned) and every new one just makes my anxiety spiral. I'll give it a while to see if it resolves and then get into the GP again to have him check it out.

No run today because the girls had cheer tonight. Instead I did: 10 min ALW 10 min barre W1D1 of Crush Your Core
I’m following the Tunde arms challenge and Hannah barre challenge but I doubt I’ll do it all year. But who knows. I do feel like mentally 3 classes that are 10 minutes each feels easier than one 30 minute class for reasons I can’t explain.

Yesterday I did:
30 min legs and core with RK (split day 2) 15 min walking meditation with Chelsea
Today was: 10 min warm up run with Hosky 20 min beginner run with Susie 10 min core with Ben 30 min legs and biceps with RK (split day 3) 10 min lower body stretch with RK
I planned to run on the tread but the weather was so great out that I switched it up. I started the run stiff and lead like but ended up feeling great.

I went to the first training run on Tuesday evening- basically everyone from the first one I joined was there so that was good. We did 3 miles that night. On my own, I did 2 easy miles on Wednesday night, and 3 miles with some longish fartleks last night. The lights were already taken down at the park, major bummer. Food has been hit or miss. We're in the middle of painting the kitchen and it is a disaster zone so dinner was frozen pizza. But balance- breakfast was a pineapple spinach protein smoothie and lunch was a veg-heavy Thai curry that I made before we started painting.
Today my plan is a couple of easy miles and an upper body workout at the gym. Lunch is probably going to be a wrap w/ arugula and sliced chicken (with fig dressing), dinner will be a salmon situation.

I weighed in today for the first time since Dec 22. I usually take the week off between Christmas and New Year's since its a shitshow of eating and I just don't want to know. The results were not great, but not as bad as they could be I suppose. I'm about 5 lbs up from the 22nd. But at that point, I was about 2 lbs up from where I wanted to be, so all told I have 7ish pounds to try and drop to get to where I felt the best. Not horrible, I guess. This should be a quieter month without as many events so that should help. I'm going to skip cocktails this month to cut down on sugar and stick to light beer/wine, and try to cook a bit more at home after eating out so much and keep that to like 1 night per weekend.
About to do day 3 of Andy's 3 day split - 30 minutes push, + a 10 min core. Tomorrow I'll do a bike bootcamp I think or a full body strength, and then I may go back to RK's program for a few weeks starting Monday.
Tonight I think I'll make homemade pizza with the Skinnytaste dough for a healthier Fri night meal. Tomorrow we're supposed to get a winter storm, so H and I have talked about walking downtown in the snow for dinner somewhere depending whats open. We'll be taking down Christmas decorations all day plus probably shoveling which should burn some extra calories!

Afternoon.
30 minute interval run with Robin Extra 10 run with Susie 10 minute arms and shoulders with Robin 5 minute core with Olivia 5 minute stretch with Camila 5 minute stretch with Becs
My legs were like lead this morning, ugh. Yoga tonight, hopefully they'll loosen up.
Food is fine. I ate too many crackers during my prep period, but otherwise it will be decent.
I need to weigh myself and take some measurements but I may keep ignoring it and reveling in my intentional ignorance about the fact that my weight is up.

I did a 30min 90s run with Hoskins this morning for about 4km. I feel like my HR monitor via Apple Watch is not the most accurate. Is it possible it’s falsely high? It says my range was 98-159. According to the general calculation, my max HR should be like 175, but I didn’t feel like I was working that hard. Thoughts?

To the gym around noon today 🥱 lol I’m gonna be so out of sorts next week. Plyos and DB press. Then a 2 mile jog on the treadmill this evening. Hip is feeling sticky so I’ll stretch/roll etc.

jorkzy I mean I don’t think the Apple Watch or any wrist HR monitor is totally accurate, however I do know my max HR is higher than 220-my age (have physically felt my pulse and counted/timed). My Apple Watch also gives me readings higher than that number but usually I’m definitely in zone 5. So maybe it’s a mix of both inaccuracy and your true max HR?

Happy Friday!
Today was a 3 mile run. It felt so good. I had to keep reminding myself that this is an easy run and just because I’m feeling good doesn’t mean I need to speed up. You guys would be so proud. It took me until January but I finally dressed correctly for the weather 🤣 Finished up with peloton:
10 min ALW W1D2 Crush Your Core 10 min barre 10 min hip mobility.
Idk if it’s the barre, or the mobility/stretching I’ve been doing or the combination, but my hip is feeling so much better. It’s not stiff at the beginning of my runs anymore. It sometimes feels tight but I’m not experiencing any actual pain anymore. So yay!

My max is like 186 or something and I usually don't crack 170 on runs, with the exception of hard sprints or short recoveries between hard intervals where my HR does a two steps forward one step backwards type of up and down.

When I skip it I can absolutely feel it the next day. It's like someone wasn't lying to 16 year old me who would skip stretching after a 3 hour track practice, lol.

I know sometimes I can have a HR of 155 and I barely feel like I'm doing anything. Other workouts that same 155 feels challenging. When did you set your zones? And how? They may be off. It could also be off. My pixel and my Garmin don't match. My pixel records high and I trust my Garmin infinitely more because its job is fitness first, everything else second. My pixel, and your apple watch, are a smart watch first and a fitness device second. And when you try to do everything, some things are only going to be mediocre.

Switched it up a bit today:
- 20 min 90s Pilates with Anna - 10 min 90s Pop Barre with Ally
I always underestimate how sneaky hard these classes are.

Stayed decent with food today. Though I went shopping g before my pre-workout snack and probably bought more groceries than I would have ( but snowmageddon is coming and I wanted to beat the slackers to the store).
Bench went decent tonight. Trap is still a little cranky (have to stop saying shoulder because it's not a joint issue and it freaks out my coach when I keep saying shoulder). But still managed to work up to 325 for a double (that was the weight I missed at nationals). So not too shabby.

That’s a good point re: the primary job of the device. I’ve been leaning towards a Garmin lately, might need to look more seriously.

Fridays are back to back soccer/futsal nights, so I didn't think I would get a chance to work out. But I was able to squeeze in a 10 min ride between the time we got home and we ate dinner. Turns out it was my 600th ride and I didn't realize it!
Food was mostly tracked and on plan, though a bit over on cals and off on macros since H brought me a milkshake when we traded kids between practices. It was a thoughtful gesture (and very delicious) and only set me over by about 200 cals, so worth it!

Today was so busy that I didn’t get my workout in until after 6 pm. I am also going to be out of sorts next week.
Split program rest day.
30 min Zach Bryan ride with Denis 20 min focus flow lower body with Aditi
I was so excited for the Zach Bryan artist series and Denis’ class did not disappoint. He actually played a bunch of live songs and totally geeked out.

Today was a 30 minute 90s ride with Robin 15 minute core with Emma 30 minute glutes and legs with Adrian 10 minute foam rolling with Hannah
I actually have one more 10 minute foam rolling in my stack that I might do before bed, but I needed a break after the first one. It hurts so good.
Tomorrow I am planning to voluntarily get up at 7am to do a 9 mile trail run, which will be my last long run before heading to LA for the Disneyland half next weekend. I know it’s a holiday weekend and it’s going to be a mob scene, but I’m really looking forward to the trip as a whole, and not just the race.

Thanks for the domestiq reminder, cnf. I like the visualization so much better than the Peloton recap. It helps me to see that while I took more classes with Rebecca (who I only sort of like), I worked out for far more hours total with Cody. That makes much more sense to me.

I had the most hours with Becs even though she didn't hold my most classes instructor spot. That's because I do all of her long runs and my top instructor spot was someone who I both workout with and who leads one of the few stretches I've been doing for years, lol.

jorkzy, re: HR: how did you calculate your max heart rate? Via a field or lab test or are you using a formula (which is less accurate— also, there are several.) Also, how long were you at 159? If it ranged from 98-159, I could see it spiking for a short time while you say, went up a hill, or sped up. What was your average HR during the run? I don’t think the HR was necessarily off. They’re not perfect, but in recent years both Apple and Garmin have gotten pretty damn good, with accuracy near 1% for both. My guess would be that your max heart rate calculation is actually off, or the 159 was for such a short period of time that in the course of the overall run you didn’t perceive it as high exertion.

Morning.
30 minute live endurance run with Hannah 20 minute hip hop run with Jess Sims 5 minute core with Callie 5 minute stretch with Camila
Yoga tonight.
Grabbing groceries today and keeping food tight.
I measured myself for the first time since March. I'm only up 4lbs since then, but all of my measurements except two went up, and those stayed the same. That's a real bummer. Time to tighten up and make all this exercise show more I guess. I've known my eating has been my downfall for a good while now. I've had a good first week of the new year so far, but not as tight as it could be, so I have work to do.

Happy Saturday! I took a rest day yesterday. Did Wilpers’ live 60 minute PZE this morning (11 minute warm up and then 6,8,10, and 12 min intervals in zone 3 with zone 2 recoveries.) Then a 5 minute cooldown, 10 min lower body barre, and 10 minute light weights and arms.

Pretty sure I'm hit with a mild flu today, and my already stiff right hip is singing. I did a ten minute stretch with Selena just now, which was really nice.
