So, R is 14 months and up until 2 days ago everything was going great. But all of a sudden she's started sucking sooo hard after she falls asleep nursing (which she pretty much always does for her nap). And it's only when she's sleeping, so everything I'm finding in my Google searches don't seem to apply. I put my finger in her mouth to pop her off but she keeps sucking hard enough that she gave me a hickey on my finger tip! The only way I've been able to get her to let go is squeeze two fingers in and pry her jaw apart. It's kind of ridiculous.
Any ideas why she's sucking so hard? Is it possible my supply is tanking? (I've had my period back for a year, but I'm having a weird cycle and have been PMSing for like a week now, which is really unusual for me.) Maybe a growth spurt? But then why only after she's asleep? I'm so confused, lol.
Should I call and ask my LC?

Could be a lower supply. If you do breast compressions does that help at all? Is she working on molars maybe? Needs the pain relief? So strange that it's only while asleep. Can you try unlatching her a little early and just snuggling her to sleep? Around my cycle not only does my supply dip but my nips get way more sensitive so my tolerance for a strong toddler suck on a mostly empty breast is lowwww. +1 it's probably either supply or teething weirdness and +1 just unlatch before she falls asleep. wait until sucking slows down and she's almost out, then pop your finger in there and unlatch.
you could also try nursing her in a different position- maybe that's contributing to the problem, especially if it's teething-pain related. if you're doing side-lying, try sitting up in a more upright, cradle-ish position, or vice versa. or try having her sit on your lap facing you.

My immediate guess is definitely not molars, because she's just barely got 5 teeth, but teething in general could be a possibility.

She will pretty much only nurse for any length of time sitting in front of me facing me. She's all but refused cradle for a few months now.

Even before lateral incisors and canines, though?

Even before lateral incisors and canines, though? Lexi got 4 molars before canines. Not before her lateral incisors, but I think there's no set order. Just a "usual" order.
