Do any of you use color coding in your planner to distinguish between different types of appointments/people/what not? I try to do so but so far haven't found something that really seems to work well. So am curious how others may do this - and I'd love to see some examples or an overview of how you divided things up!

When I was working and keeping track of 5 attorneys' schedules, I used red ink for deadlines and green ink for in-person court appearances. Everything else was in pencil because it could change by the minute. CVD - Smith, Deadline for Bench Book GPE - Jones, Acme Motion for Summary Judgment Hearing NKT - Martin, Deposition of J. Davis
Now that I only have the families' schedule to keep track of, I use just names or initials and whatever color ink is in the pen I have with the planner at the moment. If the appointment/deadline is for me, I do not put a name/initials with it. For example: 6:30 Committee Meeting, Coal Mine Cafe 1:00 Karen - Dr. Appointment 1:45 or Holiday Mailing Deadline Bob - Car Insurance Due

I use a different color ink for each person in my family.
Blue for me MH-red D1-purple D2-pink If it's for all of us I use black. Bills are in green
I have a post it note on the monthly calendar for future months. I don't write anything in on the actual pages until the week before the next month.

I don't really have anything going on now.
However when school is in and schedules are busier I do use red for bills, purple for the kids, blue for my husband. Little things like that.
For me, it's more about the colors making it stand out that it is something different. I don't know how to explain it.
I was using the cozi free app and it color codes for you. I was basically using that with my pens.

Thanks for sharing y'all! McBenny I used to use the cozi app as well but it has been several years and I totally forgot it colorcoded 😊 oliversbear yeah sometimes I prefer pencil over pen as well cause it is easier to change. There are erasable pens as well now - always been curious to try them out! kittyforman I always used to simply plan ahead regardless of how far off the date still was but maybe I will give the postit a try. Arent you worried it may get lost?

muscari I haven't lost anything yet, probably because it's sticky and then shut in the planner. I used to write things in when the were scheduled but my type a self couldn't handle things getting out of order or cancelled/rescheduled.

I haven't really color coded except for red pen for deadlines in my work planner.
I'm toying with the idea if I keep everything in one planner of color coding activities and appointments a different color.
