So this dropped today. The costumes are amazing. I love young Lady Danbury.

I binged it over the weekend. Overall, I loved it and the back stories. Seeing the mental health issues George struggled to "cure" was hard to watch. The experiments the doctor put him through was so horrible.
I still don't get why their children didn't marry though. Did Charlotte just not put too much pressure on them? Was she against arranged marriages for them because of her own experience? It just felt her stress over them not being married was a bit too late (they looked like their age ranges were mid 40s to late 20s).
I liked seeing Lady Danbury and her back story then falling in love with Violet's father. It was sweet to see how Violet noticed and they seemed to bond a bit over that unspoken secret.

This was the best one by far. Perhaps my age is showing, but dealing with older ppl and their reflections on love and life was so much deeper than young people hating each other and then falling in love. I wish there had been more than 6 episodes. I want to learn more about George and Charlotte’s kids too!

Do we think it’s some sort of schizophrenia?

It's a (very very loose) telling of King George III and Queen Charlotte - who took over as Regent due to George's mental illness, which modern scholars think was severe bipolar disorder as he dealt with fits of extreme "mania."
It's important to note though that the sort of exhalation of Queen Charlotte having African heritage was just a myth. Which is why I think what Shonda has done here is so cool, it's such a subversive nod to all of that mess.

BTW this was the king during the time of the American Revolution. So he's known for losing the colonies on top of the rest of it.

The last scene made me boo hoo sob. It was really well done. I was crying and thinking to myself, "Only Shonda could have Americans crying over Mad King George." But it was beautifully done.

I loved it. From what I’ve read about George III, modern scholars think it may have been schizophrenia but acknowledge that the information available about him at that time was biased and limited. There’s also talk that he had a blood disease that caused manic episodes (he body was studied this century and he had high levels of arsenic in his blood). The show gave me more very troubled childhood/severe anxiety as a cause for his episodes.

I love that they are going back and forth so it's not 100% just young Charlotte. It makes it more interesting.

I am shooketh that Lord Danbury is only 62 in real life. I know they try to make him look waaaaaay older on purpose, but shooketh nonetheless.

I find it interesting and weird and gross to know that the "wedding night watching" stopped with George and Charlotte. I know historically they did it to make sure they're "really married" but didn't know it was such a discussed thing when it ended.

Is Lady Danbury technically a princess since she said her dad was a king of somewhere and she already had a ton of money?
