M's latest hill to die on has become having her light on at night. Not a night light. Not a lamp. But the full strength overhead light. If we turn it off she melts down and then gets up and turns it back on. So ok, fine. We leave it on and then turn it off after she falls asleep. Now she's started getting up MOTN and turning it back on. Yay... What do you guys think that we should do? Just go with it and whatever? Insist that it's off? Put a lockbox on her lightswitch? Does anyone else deal with this?

My oldest had a period when she was 2.5 where she had to have the overhead light on. It lasted about 3-4 months before she grew out of it.

H (and now F who shares a room with H) is like this. We just leave it on. Occasionally if I'm walking by and think about it I'll shut it off and if he wakes up he just turns it back on. I'd rather sleep than worry about the light.

What about a bedside lamp instead?
ETA- one that she could maybe pick out?

In our house it's a power struggle issue. Not a lack of alternate lighting. Not sure what maple is dealing with though.

P is also in this phase. She has 2 nightlights for overnight. At naptime, we dim her overhead light. The whole house has dimmer switches and honestly it's amazing.
My friend's daughter also went through this. She had the child's pediatrician tell her that she needed darkness and one nightlight to help her get good sleep. Little girl was a big rule follower so it worked.
