So far, no COVID for H, 5 days after exposure. Fx it stays that way! Several classrooms at the kids’ ES currently have official outbreaks, so it’s really most likely that they will bring it home over the next week before our vacation. I wish I could put them both in bubbles until we leave. I could really use some FL sunshine. Good luck, hopefully everyone stays negative! We have a WDW trip scheduled for 2/4 so I'm really getting worried about someone getting sick too. We all desperately need a vacation.

We're definitely asking the kids to mask at school in the week leading up to our DC wedding trip
My sister and MIL both had strep in the last month, but no positive covid that I'm aware of. Strep has definitely been making the rounds

Well now my oldest is sick. She felt fine all day then had chills at bedtime with a 99.8 temp. 2 hours later she had worse chills and felt weak with a 102.6 fever. She says her only other symptom is a mild headache. I'm going to take her to urgent care in the morning, thankfully they had appointments and dh doesn't have to work so we don't have to take both kids. I'm hoping they will check for strep since her sister just had it 6 days ago. I did a home covid test and it was negative so far but we all know how reliable that is.

I'm so glad DH was off today so he got to be the one to take DD1 to urgent care. She was hysterical and threw up when they tried to get the strep swab so they were unable to do it. They were able to get the nasal swab for flu and covid which are still pending. By the look of her throat and the fact that her sister just had strep the doctor felt pretty positive it is strep so she got the antibiotic shot. Hopefully that's all it is.
Of course DH said they were the only ones wearing masks in the waiting room. Thankfully it wasn't super busy but still.

Thankfully the rest of us made it out unscathed, somehow. NY is still masks mandatory in all health care facilities with no change to that anywhere on the horizon. Frankly, I hope it stays forever. No thank you to gross waiting rooms of unmasked sick people. I'm sorry you guys had to sit in a grody waiting room. I hope you all bounce back and this can be it.

cnf I wish it was like that here. I don't understand why healthcare facilities dropped masks. Especially places like urgent care. When I took DD2 last week we went to a different one and thankfully everyone was masked there. I miss early pandemic where they had you wait in your car until it was your turn.

I have not had the masks required experience in healthcare in NY in quite a few months. Multiple practices (pediatricians, specialists, my GYN) no longer require them and most providers aren’t wearing them.
ETA: and I do wish they were required. I still wear mine along with the kids when we are in these places.

This is my kiddo who is horrible with oral medications. Her temp is now 103.7 and we are struggling to get anything in her. She's currently sipping some lemonade with crushed up ibuprofen chewable. We have some tylenol suppositories but she really hates having to do those so I want to avoid it if possible.

I've probably mentioned this but my hospital system went back to requiring masks for staff but not patients or visitors. So I don't really see how that is going to help. But I want to wear a mask there anyway.

My doctor thankfully still requires masking. It boggles my mind that it's not a thing everywhere still.

They made a HUGE deal about me limiting exposure risks prior to my surgery because if I was positive my surgery would have to be postponed and I remember thinking “the most exposure I get is here… for all my pre-op stuff 😞”

My kids do well with them during fevers and help hydrate. I’m sorry. That is a scary high fever like ds had with the flu this fall.

I wonder how many patients recovering from surgery end up testing positive from exposure. My dad is having outpatient surgery in a few weeks. I am going to drive him home. My mom will be there too but she isn’t comfortable driving in the city. The website says that masks are required and apparently cloth masks are discouraged. It says that you will be given a medical grade mask if you wear a cloth one. 🤷♀️

We don't but I just put in a pick up order at Target so I can get them tomorrow. Thanks! We got her to take maybe half the medicine and some lemonade but then she gagged and threw it up. She's so exhausted I put a cool cloth on her head and she fell right to sleep. She's down to 101.9 so I'm hoping some of the medicine was absorbed. We are just going to have to do the suppository if she needs something for fever later. I really wish we had her flu and covid results back, I feel like this might be flu. I'm not sure what is taking so long for the results.

Hope she feels better quickly no matter what it is!

Her temp was down to 99.9 this morning 🙌🏻 She's feeling a lot better but we still need to work on fluids.
ETA: Negative for covid and flu a/b. So either just a bad case of strep or strep plus some random virus.

No other patients or staff wearing one. I'm so glad I didn't catch anything from there.

elle, while I agree with the majority of the article, I feel like the author left out the major element of mental health, and that yes there were capitalist interests, but also mental health across the board tanked, and that was untenable.

I do not believe that mental health is more important than the dirth of long term physical health issues and death that covid often leaves behind especially after multiple infections increasing the toll.
those long term health issues and deaths have done much damage to mental health. I'd say for many it's more damage than any of the things we could have/should have done to slow covid- Some of the things short of full lockdowns were poo poo'd -limiting your exposure by staying home as much as you can, keeping mostly to your bubble, wearing masks.
We had all sorts of things we could have done way better to mitigate mental health issues. Like prioritizing school over bars and we did not.
What if your mental health is dealing with a now chronic covid caused health issue for life? Or death of parent? How many children now have no mom dad or grandparents. Thats the reality for so many people and it's not small potatoes.
And look at us now, constantly dealing with infections cant go to school or work or have to go even if you are sick. dealing with that mental weight that's looking like its never going to go away.

I agree mental health is a deeply important aspect of the pandemic and how it was dealt with, and it deserves equal discussion with physical health. I also agree that for a lot of us, our mental health tanked not because of lockdown, but because of the lack of care our leaders and wider society showed for one another. It could probably be a whole study on it’s own.

Living in an area where it has never been taken seriously has been so damaging. Insane loneliness and hopelessness.

Living in an area where it has never been taken seriously has been so damaging. Insane loneliness and hopelessness. Arizona gave up on covid long time ago. But az has highest mortality rate per million population in the country. Even tho az is a mostly rural spread out population of peoples. I'm the only person most everywhere I go that wears a mask. I choose what stores to go into based on how full the parking lot is. I have to be careful. If I get covid I can't access my medical care, Dr appts and pt. If I have covid I can't watch grandson. If I get it I may have super bad outcome due to my immune system and medical history and dh too. I can't handle losing more people I know/love to this thing. I'm stressed a lot. I see everybody I want to see and do most everything I want to do. So that being careful isn't compromising my interactions. But it still weighs heavily.

I have yet to go to a healthcare facility around me that lets you in without a mask. If you refuse they will turn you away.
