For DD1's sleep away camp, I have to submit an application November of the prior year! When we started signing up for regular summer camps 5ish years ago, it was solidly March-ish, with maybe one late February. Now it is early January and I hate it! Yup. We don’t even have summer vacations scheduled or know if the kids are doing swim team and I’m already supposed to pick out county camps? I kind of get it for a sleep away camp, but it’s silly for local day camps. I think a lot of people sign up and then cancel later on when their kids get into other camps. Yes. Do you remember last summer there had been so many people on waitlists and so many people canceling that they had to reset all waitlists at the beginning of the summer? A mess. And I agree, sleep away camp is a bit different, but it's still crazy. She goes in mid August and it feels like she just gets home when we sign up again lol

We do Girl Scout camps, and our council hasn't even released session info yet. We still have to sign up in February, so they should be coming soon.

I’m hoping that DD’s troop goes I’m hoping that DD goes to GS daycamp this summer, but I have no idea if/when it will happen. The Daisies have to go as a group, so it really depends on the troop leadership.

In ours, there are troop campout opportunities, but all of the summer sessions are individual sign-ups by girl.

I am so happy that it is Friday. We have professional development day so no children. They were all at a level 10 yesterday. And all of the teachers were saying the same thing. I had a new para shadowing me and she looked quite nervous. I assured her that our days aren’t usually like that.

DD1 brought home a book about AOC from her school library and I thought y’all would like that and also maybe share my shock that a Texas public school library has a book about AOC. Mental note to put the librarian on my end of school treat list.

You know those sayings- like “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” or “why do I keep hitting myself with the hammer? Because it feels so good when i stop.”
I feel like that’s me with some things right now. Just like wanna smack myself in the head and remind myself DONT BOTHER. just don’t.
Ooof.

Today is DD1’s birthday. I can’t believe that I have an 11 year old. She wanted McDonald’s for dinner. I’m never one to turn down fries and a McDonald’s fountain soda. Haha.

We have an e-learning day due to snow and it couldn't have come at a worse time. I have a migraine and both kids require assistance. At least I'll be able to send them outside to run off some energy later.
Anyone else getting winter weather today?

Thankfully no e-learning, I don't even have a migraine but it would not be something I'd want to deal with right now.

We have so much snow already and I think we're expected to get some more today, but thankfully not until later in the day, so the kids are at school/daycare. And then it's supposed to switch to freezing rain, which is always fun.

I'm so fucking angry right now and it probably is an overreaction but I knew you all would understand.
I've been a member of my office's IDEA committee (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity Alliance) for a few years now. I've fostered relationships with other coworkers that I never would have had otherwise because most of them work in a different courthouse/location and so we never see each other in person. We've worked so hard and put on some great trainings with different speakers in the last year on mental health and how it relates to our office and the work we do as prosecutors, including vicarious trauma, ACEs, PTSD, etc. Previously we have done movie screenings and other office events and everything has been well received by the rest of our coworkers.
Our big boss, the county attorney, without ANY consulting to our group or notice to our chairperson, sent an email this morning immediately terminating our IDEA committee. Her logic is because we have ONE attorney on the county wide IDE task force, that is sufficient and the county wide group will meet the needs of IDE within our office now. I'm irate. I feel awful for our chairperson because she's worked so hard. I had been put in charge of organizing our office wide book club for this year (diversity book themed) and I've already read several books to try and plan ahead. We are hoping to still move forward with it since it was going to happen over lunch hour anyway, but fuck. I'm so angry and sad. I feel like this window into fostering relationships with other people who were also interested in making our office a better place to work is now closed.

Oh willow that’s awful. Like what on earth. What a shitty decision. I’d send the committee members an email being like. Pssst. Let’s form an informal IDEA group and meet over lunch?

Ugh. Day 3 of N’s sickness. Fever came back raging and vomiting again. Coughing so badly he was struggling to fall asleep last night.
Keeping BabyO and him apart gets harder as the days go on because N is getting clingier and O is… a baby.
Idk what the heck to do with N. Like it’s most likely viral, so no abx needed. I don’t even think they do Tylenol w codeine for 5yos. He cant go to school tomorrow since his fever and last throw up was after 8am today. Fever comes and goes. And were out of ramen and despite him saying he loved the soup I made him, he barely ate it. So idk man.

That’s so disheartening willow. I’m sorry. I agree I’d try To keep it going informally if you can. It sucks not to have the leadership support though. Oh no addymac poor buddy! Is he keeping down fluids at least?

willow, I'm very jaded about the EDI teams. It feels very much just something they want for show and not for actual work/learning/etc.

It feels very much just something they want for show and not for actual work/learning/etc. willow that sounds like you have a great committee going and I hope you all continue in spite of the boss. I also feel these are for checking a box only without any real impact. I attended the first meeting for ours when it started 2 years ago and I felt hopeful. Then realized only non-white people were participating. My bosses, who are all white, have never mentioned attending or encourage participation from the department. I used to have several Latina leaders who were role models and now they have all left or retired.
