I’ve noticed that more kids are coming to school with masks - Most are of Asian descent.
My DD2 (5) had her mask on and promptly took it off when she thought I couldn’t see her. She also does not care that Santa is watching

So, DD got the first 2 Pfizer shots under 5, and then her last shot as a 5 year old. It says, "updated Pfizer booster 5-11". So did she kind of get the booster when she wasn't supposed to? Did we skip something she was supposed to get? It's all so confusing, but I wanted to get her first shots ASAP and not wait for her birthday. This is what my 5yo got too, since Pfizer was the only bivalent available to him.

I haven’t been around in forever it feels like because our internet is out and our supplier sucks ass. But boys have the flu currently (they are doing better now except nasty coughs). Apparently it’s wiping through our school and there hasn’t even been as much as a peep of hey if your kid develops a cough get them tested. So it’s going great.

So our friends' kid that we carpool to daycare with had a positive case in his classroom. He and everyone in the classroom can continue to attend with negative rapid tests and with masks (not required otherwise). My 1YO (because he's too young too mask) has to quarantine for 5 days if he becomes a close contact so I opted to not carpool today. But for how long? Other kiddo's last exposure was Friday, but of course, there's a chance other kids in his class end up getting it. 5 days from Friday, unless someone else tests positive? The rest of the week?
There is at least another classroom affected so I feel like it's just a matter of time my kid is quarantined or gets COVID. I can't do last December/January all over again but here we are.

My 5YO got his bivalent booster yesterday. He has been getting increasingly anxious about shots and such things and yesterday was the worst. It took an hour+ to get him there but they knew exactly what to do and used a shot blocker. It was my first experience with it and it really helped and hopefully he'll remember it next time.

Though I will say last year we had the week after the winter holiday break as virtual and it was much better than what we knew as virtual/on zoom all day school. It was a half hour session in the morning to go over expectations with the teacher and then a handful of assignments we could download to be completed at your own pace throughout the day. That was pretty manageable. I think it was all review and no new concepts. FX it's something like that for you.

Yea, the teacher previously mentioned that virtual sessions would be pretty short so I'm expecting to put a movie on and do some holiday activities with him.

They're doing a deep clean of the building tomorrow. I mean, cleaning is great, but I would think masking would be more effective...

My daughter freaks at shots. Like so much so that when she got her covid shot at the county health department she bent the needle (the person was not very equipped at giving shots, especially to children). I wonder if I bought it I could just bring it with and they'd use it?

I feel like the back and forth from the CDC is so damn confusing around kids in schools. Everything I read said "wear the mask you'll keep on the most" and for our kids that's cloth. Only a handful of other kids in the entire school have masks, and most here are antivax to boot. But then the "cloth doesn't protect against omicron" thing I've seen touted as a reason to not mask at all if you're not going to wear a fitted N95. Is it still worth it to wear cloth masks if they'll keep those on for what little protection they do provide? To protect against or to prevent spread of the other respiratory crud going around? I just can't believe we're at this point, years later, still. I think a cloth mask is better than nothing. I've been wearing just a basic cloth mask this whole time. I used kn95s for a month or so in January of this year when omicron was at it's worst but other than that just a cloth. Not a fancy cloth one either. Several people in my family have only ever worn cloth masks and the only one of them to ever get covid JUST got it for the first time ever

But I/we also don't have much of a social life. Besides work/daycare and necessary shopping and appointments plus weekly trips to my parents we don't go anywhere. Eating out is mostly with them on Saturdays and a short thing in uncrowded places. No playdates, MH and I don't have out of the house hobbies, we don't take DS to do any kid stuff. I feel bad but I'm lazy. And he technically doesn't know what he's missing.

I wonder if I bought it I could just bring it with and they'd use it? The person that used it on my kid said to call ahead and ask if they have one or to just buy one and bring it yourself. I do think it helped that my kid's first experience with it was from someone who clearly knew what they were doing and offered it to him with confidence, otherwise you might have to sell it to her yourself. I had heard of it but he's never been this bad for me to think of needing it and I'm so glad they offered it!
