Ugh, I wasn't even thinking about that. That definitely makes sense. I wonder then if those who haven't had covid yet are faring any better. I feel like at this point there are so few that haven't had it that it would be hard to tell. My MIL hasn't had COVID and has been sick with some other respiratory thing that has now turned into pneumonia but she also has asthma. Oh no, I hope she starts feeling better soon.

Anecdotally, my 5 year old brought flu A home a few weeks ago and I was the only one who caught it from her (I'm the only one who has had COVID in our family), and I was hit pretty hard. Took 6 days for the fever to subside. I talked to our pediatrician and she said she's noticing the flu is worse for people who have had COVID in the past 6 months. Nothing official, but just what she's seeing. This sucks because we've all had COVID in the past 6 months.

I had probable covid in Sept and probable flu in Nov and while I felt the crummiest for *only* 2 days, it was probably the worst flu symptoms I've ever had. Literal body shaking chills, terrible headache, exhaustion, congestion, etc. And I was alternating ibuprofen and Dayquil. Thinking on it more it's definitely possible I would have had longer severe symptoms if I hadn't stayed on top of that

Flu A took all 5 of us out in November. 4 of us had COVID 6 months earlier; my youngest was 10 months post-COVID. We were all throughly miserable; MH was running 104.6 fevers.
4 of the 5 of us had a flu vaccine this year.
I’m hoping our recent round of flu + vaccines give us some protection. I have my hysterectomy next week and am dreading what I may pick up from the hospital. DNW a respiratory virus while recovering from surgery.

leahcar good luck! I had mine towards the beginning of omicron last year and was nervous about Covid, but it all turned out ok. I’ll be thinking of you, in a completely non creepy way ❤️

Also why the CDC messaging is infuriating it's like they are wilfully ignorant of their own purpose and mission.

My work is having a holiday party tonight. Aside from the fact that it is pay your own at $60 pp, my coworkers keep telling me to go bc “everyone misses me and wants to see the baby”. Except we keep floating to PICU and caring for flu/rsv kiddos, our nicu had a flu and covid outbreak of our own among the babies, and apparently we are so short staffed right now because a bunch of staff got covid.
I’m like….. I respectfully decline paying $$ to go hang out with people I’m getting a break from (lol) that would probably infect me with an array of germs and I’d bring home to BabyO. Bc no I’m not taking him to a cesspool of germs. come on people.

addymac, I hate those kinds of setups. Hard pass. In my metro area, our hospital utilization is really high. We're seeing some hopeful signs, but we're not out of the woods yet.

My mom is having her piano recitals this weekend at her house so they'll be busy and not able to come over this weekend. Which is fine by me. I have my follow up next Thursday and I'm praying we are all healthy because I need MH to take me obviously.

AmyG I hope they're feeling better soon. I'm hoping it's not the flu Or covid or rsv Cause it's not like little guy basically already lived at my house for 2 days this week. Every time her mom comes to visit they get sick. Wonder her what mom brought them on sunday?

One twin got Flu A on Thanksgiving. Somehow the rest of us in the house were spared. We all had our flu shots. Just adding to the anecdotes. He had two or three days of fussiness and fever but otherwise got through it ok. Hoping that's all we deal with for the rest of the season on the flu front, but we'll see.

If we are in the anecdote portion of the thread, DS had the flu over thanksgiving and it was bad, but luckily tamiflu was a Godsent for him. I was the only one that got my flu shot yet, and didn’t get sick, even with being with him closely and taking him to UC. DH and DD didn’t catch it either.
We all (except DD who is a unicorn) had covid mid/end of Sept.

My Christmas shopping isn't done. Nothing is wrapped. Naturally, work is chaotic. But- I'm letting go. My health takes priority; the rest will (hopefully) work itself out. I'm looking forward to vegging out in my recliner and watching all the cheesy Christmas movies.

Yeahhhhh. Idk if it’s a result of bc it’s a state hospital so they can’t pay for certain things… idk. I’ve never gone and I’m not about to start for $60 at a restaurant that is like $20pp if I ate on my own. Sorry not sorry. Like DHs job pre-covid would have a holiday party and they’re a hospital and we never had to pay and it was really nice and fancy. I miss those.

Dh has never had a holiday party I can attend since moving to the public water district side. They can’t spend public funds on something like that, so I get it. But they still try to have a lunch potluck or something to get together and have the holiday spirit. I would not want to over pay for a restaurant date during this busy season.

The pfizer under 5s with 3 shots should be eligible for the updated bivalent booster hopefully in January. Sounds like it is in trials right now.
