Since Sept we've had Covid, suspected RSV, and the flu in our house 😫 I'm really hoping we don't pick up anything else/again
Our local children's hospital recently admitted 51 children with RSV in one day
The only place we've been where there is any mask wearing is the pediatric ophthalmologist and they recently switched to optional. The Dr will mask if we are though, which I appreciate, especially given how strict he was about it before

I'm just praying actually praying multiple times per day for us to stay healthy. I can barely take care of myself right now.

I'm a NP in pediatrics. I saw 19 patients today. 12 of them had influenza A. This has been unreal. And kids are so sick. Fevers up to 106, lethargic, etc.

Well, my hospital is now back to requiring masks for patient-facing staff since covid, rsv, and influenza are running rampant.
I'm so glad for at least this though I wish the patients and visitors would have to mask too.
PDQ and TMI but I've been having some womanly bleeding issues and there's a good chance if things don't get better soon that I'm going to end up in the ER. I'm absolutely trying to avoid that at all costs. I can't imagine the wait won't be astronomical and I just assume I'll end up with covid or influenza while I wait. If I do go I'm taking one of my N95s.

My almost 4 year old niece (birthday tomorrow!) and SIL have the flu. She was with my kids on Sunday because my mom took them to a special Christmas show. Thankfully my girls are vaxxed but we're watching them like hawks just in case.

Something respiratory is running through our house and it is no fun. No fevers, just feeling super shitty and run down, lots of coughing. Not the flu or Covid. Blah.

I didn't read the article yet so sorry if it's mentioned in there but are there any statistics about if the people getting influenza right now are vaccinated or not? I'm just curious because I thought they had said the flu vaccine was a good match this year but it doesn't really seem that way unless a lot of these people getting it were unvaccinated.

Everything I've read is saying that the current crisis is being fueled by previous covid infections that have impacted people's immune systems. Other viruses, bacterial infections, plus fungal infections are all surging because of it. And this is a world wide issue.

Obviously anecdotal, but I got my flu vax mid Oct and had what I believe was the flu mid Nov. Nobody else in the house got sick but I had 2 days of feeling like absolute garbage and another 4 or so of slow improvement

nelzie I hope you can avoid the Emergency Room. I had to go yesterday because I am having an RA flare that made me unable to walk and was causing immense pain and I needed IV steroids faster than my rheumatologist would have been able to order. I got there at 9:30 am and was told it was a 2-3 hour wait. Well it was after 4pm when I was finally brought back to be seen and there were 30 patients behind me in line. There were so many very ill people waiting. Not once did I see anyone sanitize the seating in the waiting room. Although sitting in a wheelchair over 6 hours was extremely painful I was somewhat ok knowing at least that was sanitized prior to my use.

Besides the fact that it will be a nightmare I also don't want to take away resources from people there who I feel like need to be there more than me.

I wonder then if those who haven't had covid yet are faring any better. I feel like at this point there are so few that haven't had it that it would be hard to tell.

I hope you are feeling better today 💕 I know the ER wait times are ridiculous here to begin with and starting yesterday our urgent care went to appointment only so I imagine more people will have to go to the ER instead and that will make it worse. My only hope is that if I do have to go in that they will ship me off to the women's health floor since they don't want anything to do with gyne stuff. But tomorrow I see the NP to try some different meds to get me through so 🤞🏼

My classroom usually has 12 preschoolers. Today, we had 3. At least 7 were sick. We asked the custodian to disinfect our room tonight. 😔

Anecdotally, my 5 year old brought flu A home a few weeks ago and I was the only one who caught it from her (I'm the only one who has had COVID in our family), and I was hit pretty hard. Took 6 days for the fever to subside. I talked to our pediatrician and she said she's noticing the flu is worse for people who have had COVID in the past 6 months. Nothing official, but just what she's seeing.

Almost everyone I know seems to have had it in the past few months. 2 of our 4 had it but in May so its now past 6 months at least. It also makes me wonder since covid impacts immunity is it possible that other vaccines like the flu shot could be less effective in people who have had covid recently?
