I think we might be forgetting just how heinous so many dresses in the 80s were. The first Fergie dress was horrible even for the 80s. Some of the others ones, though, seem kind of par for the course. I remember this bridesmaids dress I had to wear in 1989 and OMG--pink, green, and black floral, white satin sash, long sleeved with lace peeking out from the sleeves (I think), huge lace collar, ankle length, white tights, large pink hairbow. Don't ruin my fun! See, what would be super fun is if I could find a photo of that horrible dress. |

RajahMD, Can we go back to discussing COD for a bit? RajaMD, do you have any educated theories? It seems a little odd that she was so spry (as my grandma used to say) just 2 days before then Charles had a cheery dinner with Jenna Bush Hager the night before and then all of a sudden, the palace seems to be on death watch. It doesn’t seem like “old age” as in she just peacefully slipped away. It doesn’t seem like there was enough time for that. It seems more like there was a precipitating incident. I have 2 theories, one is that she had a slip and fall resulting in a head injury that left her brain dead. My theory is that was not a “dignified” ending for the queen so they kept it quiet. Theory 2 is that she had a heart attack but she had a “do not resuscitate” order in place. I suspect she was ready to go after Phillip died but the palace probably prefers the narrative that she was a fighter until the end. I’m guessing the palace would not want the perception to be that in the end, she just gave up. Not the case at all, but the palace seems to have an odd sense of how to protect the crown’s image. Anyway, without knowing anything about her medical history, do you have any speculation on possible scenarios?

Beatrice, 2008, at cousin Peter Phillips' wedding.  I absolutely love this one, and especially love the matching hat. How much did that facinator weigh?? Harry could be added to the worst dressed list, too, with these super baggy trousers. |

I can tell you from experience that sudden deaths in the elderly are usually a catastrophic medical event (think stroke, heart attack, etc) or traumatic (falls usually). I don't necessarily see them covering up a trauma. So I would favor a catastrophic medical event. But she was definitely declining in recent years, especially since Philip died. So I don't think it's necessarily as sudden as it seems. It's not like her job was physically intense, so it'd be easier to limit her schedule to things she can handle. |

Meghan, circa 2019.  I decidedly disagree. I think she looks lovely. Definitely not a "worst royal dress". I don’t love the fabric. It looks like drapery but the cut/shape is nice. I’m sure the black was appropriate for the event. It was. It was for a ceremony honoring soldiers for Remembrance Day. Kate was also in all black. |
