So apparently because Meghan looked amazing the talk is that she should have worn sleeves I counter that argument with no commentary about Lady Louise’s neckline and no sleeves. Personally, every tweet I see with just “arms” makes me chuckle before I block them. But they don't hate her because she is Black!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually read a tweet today that said it is her actions because if Harry had married a classy Black woman she would have been welcomed

As far as outfits go, a lot of them were surprising gaudy. I think it was because people thought all black is boring and wanted to spruce it up with jewelry and statement hats that seemed like too much for a somber occasion.
Meghan, Maxima and Rania all did a good job of making interesting lines/fabric details the star of their outfits without over the top adornment. I didn’t love Kate’s look, but I didn’t hate it either-it was just too much all together.

I’m just catching up but… Why were there 3 Dutch royals? Wasn’t it A THING that only 2 be allowed? Also - love that the bouquet on the casket had myrtle that had been grown from her wedding bouquet. Lovely little touch. Wait, who was the 3rd dutch royal there?

the press taking a picture of crying Charlotte is the problem. They should be able to go to a funeral and even do the procession especially since they walked with their parents but them crying should be off limits. Exactly. This whole thing is way more than just kids at funerals. Especially because now we know she wasn't crying and that was a millisecond taken out of context because it's a "story."

Can someone explain to me the different style of salutes? Personal choice or is there another reason?

Wait, who was the 3rd dutch royal there? I think it was Maxima, WA, and Beatrix. But the issue was never that there could only be two...it was that the funeral was invite only and leaders couldn't bring a delegation of Very Important Randos. Was Mary disinvited from the funeral as well as the dinner though? I didn’t see her there.

Also - I just heard on the coverage that in an opinion poll last year this time 38% thought that Charles would be a good king. Since QEII died that’s gone up to 72%. 😳

Can someone explain to me the different style of salutes? Personal choice or is there another reason? I think it has to do with the different branches of the British armed forces. (They salute differently. I saw a tweet but didn’t internalize the details.)

But the issue was never that there could only be two...it was that the funeral was invite only and leaders couldn't bring a delegation of Very Important Randos. Hmm. I wonder if world leaders got invites for them and +1. So King Willem brought his wife, and his mother may have gotten a personal invite. Given their ages, she was a contemporary of QEII, so she probably warranted her own invite. Meanwhile, Margrethe got her invite as Queen of Denmark and took her son as she's a widow. Mary probably didn't know QEII well, and wasn't a contemporary of her, so didn't warrant her own personal invite. That's my theory.

Was Mary disinvited from the funeral as well as the dinner though? I didn’t see her there. I don't even know. Isn't she from Denmark? All I know is what I found out when I googled "Which Dutch royals went to the funeral?" I noticed the 3 Dutch royals as well and wondered if it was because it was the king and queen. Plus then the previous queen who was close to QE II. And in Mary’s case she is crown princess, so the queen of Denmark and crown prince were invited. All I know is I am glad I didn’t have to deal with the guest list. ETA I see RajahMD shares my theory so it must be true then 🙂

I love Anne in uniform. The Queens pony. And I think Kate looked wonderful. The kids? No real thoughts except Charlotte looks adorable and they are very well prepped for this sort of thing. Charles looks truly sad.

Same! I'm sad she's the only female family member in uniform now. The Queen fought so hard to fight sexism for herself, but evidently gave fuck all about sexism for her descendants. When Anne dies (or retires), we'll be back to only males participating in the formal military events, and the women will be back to just spectators. I mean, look at how many medals she has! More than any of her brothers except for the King. But she seems to be the only female with any medals at all.

I think this whole nonsense with the funeral has broken me as far as royals go. They use their kids as fodder and then the fucked up kids go on to do it to theirs and onward and onward. The kids are victims of the machine now and will become operators of it as they grow. And the media is there to tear apart elementary schoolers. it's all stupid. You'll feel better if you focus on my funeral, which I'm planning to include as many feathered hats as possible. I’ve always wanted a feathered hat occasion. Put me on the invite list.

Harry talking in that interview posted earlier in this thread about how Charles told him that was how he was raised and Harry couldn't believe it because don't you always want better for your kids really gets me because yes.

I briefly played the piano accordion as a child. Get the boys into that too. Omg. The oldest has already asked for accordion lessons. I am not even making that up. We'll circle back to this and Imma need some advice on how to make his little polka dreams come true. They made tiny bagpipes! Ask me how I know.

Will they be hypoallergenic feathers? Inquiring minds need to know. No. And the incense won't be hypoallergenic either. I want snot and tears from everyone. I am quite fond of posting with you, but I'm going to sit this one out. Incense gives me migraines and then I throw up, and that isn't fun funeral vibes.

It’s been a solid 12 years since I’ve thought about this (both H and I worked closely with the RAF) but it stems back to low ranking navy having dirty hands from tar and not being able to present a dirty palm to an officer. Otherwise an outward palm is a way of saying “I have nothing to hide from you.”
