so weird. And now Will and Kate will be The Duke and Duchess of Wales right? And Will will be Prince Will? They have to go through a ceremony to invest them into being the Prince and Princess of Wales. I can see them doing that though right?

Charles can pick a new name if he wants, though. Like he doesn't have to be King Charles. And then if he doesn't he'll have some number of Roman numerals after. I'm sorry, I'm on DayQuil right now.

Isn’t there something funky about the royal flag being flown only when the Sovereign is present? I wonder how that factors in I'm wondering about this, too. The feed I'm watching is showing the flag over Buckingham, just the usual union jack flying full staff. Is there something I'm supposed to understand about that? Is it different? Is something about to happen?

Anyone know what protocol is for Charles officially becoming king? Is it just automatic and they do the ceremonial coronation later?

There is a different “Royal Standard” that only flies over the residence the sovereign is in. So I think that is flying at Balmoral now.

If he keeps King Charles he will be King Charles III Thank you for mathing. In the Crown (my official source of all knowledge) she officially was Queen, with everyone curtsying and stuff and saying God save the Queen to her immediately. The official Coronation was later because it involves a lot of planning. But it was automatic with the titles and acknowledgement and stuff.

Google tells me he immediately becomes king upon her death. If it is anything like the royal books I read this is correct. He takes an oath in private with the right people and is King and a coronation comes later for the public.

King Edward VIII never even had his public coronation before he abdicated.

If the flag indicates she's not there, that's not going to be changing, right? It makes me wonder if there's some flag action they're waiting for to take place and I want to know what it is.

Their protocol is a month of mourning correct? Wasn't that what came up during Philip's passing.
