Of course we can get into the argument of Americans being arrested for protesting, which does happen wrongfully. But it’s very shocking to see people arrested for holding up a sign. I can't with this right now I seriously can't

It's a line from the books. It's formal, posh-y Brit syntax. Dislike. (the unnecessary 'that', not you, to be clear). I mean, it's literally another language in a lot of ways, so it's not for us to like or not really.

That is happening everywhere to people of color. It's not an argument, but a statement of fact. I just can't My husband would beg to differ with that statement but you know I am the mean one

Come on guys, we wouldn't attack a foreign language way of speaking, and that's what this is.

A tattoo of the Queen with "that's me done" would make me laugh. I'm sorry.

I mean, I can dislike phrasing even if I recognize that apparently it is how they say it, now that I've learned so. In all good humor and all. Just as I dislike phrases in Americanized English that are accepted and normal. As silly as it may be.

Yep. I go to Prague next month and you bet your ass I'm going to see castles and cathedrals despite hating monarchy and not being religious. One can appreciate architecture for architecture's sake and history for history's sake. It sure as hell doesn't mean we have an encompassing love for terrible figures and purposes they represent. Do you want bar suggestions? Smug prick /sarcasm

Come on guys, we wouldn't attack a foreign language way of speaking, and that's what this is. Well I didn't know it was a normalized way of speaking, for all I knew it was a blunder like "No ragerts". I don't take serious attack on their way of speaking, it was all supposed to be light hearted.

American english and English english are different in a lot of ways, sentence structure being a fascinating area. Side note, my director has taught me a ton about grammar, which I thought I knew well. She grew up in Scotland but her kids went to school here and she said there is just a different emphasis on it there.

Ok, but as we have been explaining to Phil, intention doesn't always matter. The sentence is not grammatically incorrect in its native syntax. I guess you can dislike it, but I will say that I don't think that's a great way to discuss something that isn't your own language/culture.

I don't take serious attack on their way of speaking, it was all supposed to be light hearted. Well I didn’t know either, but now I do? So I’m not digging in on how I can still dislike the expression, you know? Yeah, I get it. I'm not trying to dig in and I understand where a 'slippery slope' can come in, though I hope no one here earnestly thinks I'm going to go around making fun of foreign languages for sport. My attempt to make it light hearted clearly didn't land and I'm not going to argue in defense of it further.

I have seen conflicting reports on this. Some say they’re staying home, some have claimed Doria will be bringing them over. I have not seen anything officially said, and I guess I don’t expect to. I assume Omid will have the scoop on this if the kids to come. My guess is they are there but H&M don't want it known and I don't blame them one bit. I don't see them away from their kids for that long since they were already gone before all this happened. I would like the kids to meet up. It might take ages for W and H to make amends, but I want to think their kids would just be kids and play with none of the underlying bitterness.

The source is being serious. But the source is A Lot. As the HIH Turns, lol the source could be philo. or socks. or both. or all three. Lol. I am my own person, promise. STP doesn’t like me and the feeling is mutual. I like philo and lots of folks chat with her just fine on Politics. Believe it or not, GD is not the whole board.

I'm enjoying the memes about how now is the time to go get everything back from the British museum. The jewels need to be given back. Like, tomorrow. Could they stay until Spring Break so I can see them and then give them back <again sarcasm>

Generally tourists everywhere visit fancy buildings with fancy artifacts from that country/city they are visiting. It's literally part of the reason for the tourism. This is not unique to the UK or the Royal Family. I didn’t say it was a unique worldly thing only we have. My point was they are the draw in that regard. And without that there isn’t a big reasoning or want for visiting that little old island. I think British people always just saw it as just being a consistent thing of it’s just how it is. No one sits around daily thinking about the royal family, it’s just something that.. is. Now with a change in the running of things I hope more people start to question what truly is the point or worth in them. Transitions are always a good time to reflect. I hate the “this isn’t the time” admonishments (not here, generally). Now is the perfect time!

Plain and simple this is a big deal in the grand scheme of things no matter what. This is something we have never been witnessed to. So yes it is going to be watched by some. Yup. And this is the reason I am in this thread! I am …. Enjoying seems like the wrong word to use, but I am interested in seeing how this all plays out because we’ve never seen this happen. I no curr about her or the family or have sadness over her death but just the process is fascinating. And I do like H&M. So I am enjoying the info and commentary even if I don’t care about her actually dying. Same. It’s a spectacle and fascinating. I do feel for… some of the family. Some are not worthy of my cares.

We're saying the same thing. Yes, previous interactions color how someone reads your words. You don't post in a vacuum in this thread, or any other. If you did not react the way you do so very often in so many threads, you would not be called a troll. You are responsible for your past actions and the way they affect how people read you. Yeah, to me my post that are original thought posts I don’t consider to be trolling. I should work on not responding to the people trying to bait me into an argument because I understand how that then turns me into being the troll. I know only I can control what I post but others play a part here. This is the way. Block block block.

I really only know what I've picked up here as I've been out of pocket. I see the coffin is at a Scottish cathedral now. Is this like a funeral train situation where she's traveling back to London through the countryside? She'll lay in state for 24 hours at the cathedral. Then I believe she'll be flown back to London, where she will lay in state for four days, basically up to the morning of the state funeral next Monday. There might be another stop in between there, but I do know she's only laying in state at those two places. I have a question for you RajahMDDid they embalm her at Balmoral?

Nonwhite people in America can't really do much of anything involving police without a care in the world, is the nuance I think is missing here. The two things can exist separate right? It’s on me because I made the comparison. I should have just said it’s shocking to see people arrested for holding up a sign. I understand it’s also shocking when people are wrongly arrested for any “reasoning” in any part of the world. for me no they can't exist separate, but I have a black husband and daughter

Friend. This is not a fight you want to have. There’s so much good royal coverage to watch, we don’t have to do the “Politics isn’t like that terrible GD” today! You are right. Can I see pretty dresses yet? Meghan will be right at home with black and no one can say a word about her boring color choice
