I haaaate it. I am thinking people will be "over" the monarchy pretty quickly. They are shitty people.. and all the $$ they say the royal family brings in, the history of it all will still be there... It all feels gross. the celebrations and such will not though. I do not see it going away. The fact that the streets are literally packed right now shows that the people aren't as "over" the monarchy that they claim they are. And the UK loves Will and Kate so they will hold on to them. I think people liked the Queen more than the monarchy. at least I like to think that anyway! |

FFS Was Kate not invited either? Why is that not a "story?" What about anyone arriving today? Clearly Meghan was not invited because it was a snub but Kate wasn’t there because she was elsewhere being the world’s best mom. ETA: I see we all had the same thought. |

I am watching the Today show, but am in Chicago, so am an hour behind. They're just showing them getting out of the car and walking the receiving line. I'm kind of surprised he's doing this. Very kind of him, honestly.

I think Charles has an image that has been curated to appeal to a very certain type of white British person. Nature-loving, equality lip service without action, OMG star crossed lover romantic… I don’t think he will be the end of the monarchy at all. He’ll be a tolerated enough bridge to get to Will and Kate who are (obviously quite problematic in their own right) but juuuust enough better at PR to keep it going.

It did feel a little sudden since we just saw the Queen looking pretty good Tuesday. Then Thursday, gone. Even at 96, that feels sudden. I guess when you’re that old you’re body doesn’t have time for warnings. She looked happy but very frail on Tuesday. She honestly reminded me a lot of elderly patients I’ve had that are just done. Not ill, not unhappy, just tired. I kinda grew up in a nursing home/care center environment (my parents both had roles and I’d go there after school almost every day, I felt like I had 100 grandparents). You learn to recognize the look. I think it probably felt less sudden to people close to her. *not actually directed at penguin, just the comment that made me think about it. I thought the same as you. I didn’t think she looked “good” but she did look happy. I actually mentioned to a friend that her hands looked not great (circulation and coloring wise) of course you can’t really judge much from pictures. I agree with everyone that while not unexpected it still came as a shock. |

Harry and Meghan's spokesperson apparently did say that they would be staying in the UK until the funeral so my guess is Doria will bring the kids over if they aren't there. My guess is they flew them in yesterday, and that's why Meghan went to London/ why it took Harry a little longer. |

The star-crossed lovers myth is some bullshit. It conveniently forgets that Camilla didn't even want to marry Charles so that they wouldn't have been permitted to marry is completely irrelevant. She was head over heels for Andrew Parker-Bowles and wanted very much to marry him. It's only after they were married and Andrew cheated on her (with Princess Anne, among others, and whom he had slept with while dating Camilla - how very soap operatic of him) that Camilla, wanting to get a little of her own back, began having an emotional affair with Charles, that resumed its physical nature shortly after Harry was born. If Andrew had remained faithful, she'd be happily married to him all these years later. |

I'm really glad the kids are coming over, Harry will need them. Exactly why I think Doria got them all on a plane very early yesterday. Unrelated to the kids but related to Harry, I also think that, even though he wasn't in the room, he had his chance to say goodbye. I really do. I feel like they were too close for him to not. She says out one side of her mouth while cackling at the memes from the other. |

What happens to all the British currency? It's impossible to replace every bill and coin in existence. Do they just start printing new ones with King Charles on it now? Have both circulating?
Coins last for a while... Will we at one point have currency with three different monarchs on them floating around?
And OMG, the chance for the collectors.
