Idk where to put this. I'm beyond frustrated as Dewine throws money at schools as grants for officers in the schools to be sure no door gets left open yet earlier this year Dewine/OH did away with CCWs. Everyone can have their guns! Just lockdown the school! Because doors kill people... Same. They can't even fund the anti-intruder door locks but more cops should help A group of parents in our district banded together a few years ago to raise money to put Anchorman locks in all the schools. It's a large district (8k+ kids, 12 buildings) and they just finished installing them in the last building. We shouldn't even have to do that. We also had 2 incidents with airsoft guns at the HS last year. In one incident a teacher tackled a student when it fell out of their backpack. Allegedly an innocent mistake. The other incident was a class outside for an activity stumbled on one on the grounds. How is funding cops to check doors going to help either of those circumstances? Fuck.

This was really important, I'm glad this administration followed through.

Oh wow Haley Stevens beat Andy Levin.
We were in MI a couple of weeks ago and that primary was ugly. It was likely Stevens would win but they sure fought it out to the end.

It looks like Romney voted against the PACT bill back in June too. This is what he said then: "Romney said Congress should support veterans harmed by toxic exposure, but the scope and price tag of the bill, which would cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars, were 'astronomical and unjustified'." www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2022/06/17/senate-oks-enhanced/kind of like the 20 year war we paid for?

This is like the most encouraging thing I’ve read in weeks. ”If it happens in Kansas, it could happen everywhere. Let’s make it happen everywhere.” 🥺 thank you Kansas voters. I feel like we really all needed this hope right now.

Georgia residents can now claim embryos as dependants on state taxes. www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna41111This is so bizarre but I was expecting something like this to happen, somewhere.

Also 'heartbeat' is SO misleading and the antichoice crowd really got one over on everyone with branding it as such.

I don’t actually like this. It feels like it’s trying to be a gotcha to the gop/people that want to outlaw abortions, when really it’s just furthering their cause imo. See, embryos are people, they even get to claim dependents on state taxes and ride in HOV lanes. So aborting them is “murder”. well right now isn't that what the law says?

It will seem on the surface good - yay more money. But it is seeking to further embed in the law this idea that an embryo/fetus/whatever stage of conception that they don’t care to understand is a person with rights. Which has no good outcomes for the people whose bodies carry these embryos.

If I am required to carry a baby I do not want to have should I get money? In the end no I probably shouldn't if I ever want this to change

Right. If you’re not going to take care of the people you send to war, don’t vote for war. Pretty simple.

How is it trying to be a gotcha for the GOP when it's coming from the executive branch of the State of Georgia? It's coming from the GOP.

I mean okay? I was essentially trying to say what jaygee said. Swing and a miss. This is bitchy. The discourse around the law is obviously what philo and jaygee were both referring to.
