Stuebe thinks only people who've served in a combat zone should talk about firearms apparently. Sort of like how lawmakers who don't have a uterus should STFU? This. And also I think a lot of people who served in combat zones would wonder what the duck we are doing letting those types of weapons on our streets.

Our local news covered a story last night about a little boy that was sitting in the lawn area waiting for the fireworks to start at the Oakland A’s game on July 4th and a bullet from “celebratory” gunfire went through his shoulder. The bullet could have come from up to a mile away. 6 people in total were hit by these bullets.
It broke me. Again. We can’t even just sit on the lawn and not get hit by a bullet in this country.

Nadler "i just want to say to the people in Mr Stuebes district they're welcome to move to mine"
Cohen - dude greg you're a dumbass. Why do we need police if we can just depend on all those good guys wth guns. <- MY interpretation btw

I've used parallel arguments from 2nd amendment fight to abortion rights. With at least a few saying I never thought of it that way. Most 2a peeps thinks government doesn't know enough about guns to regulate them. Like defining difference between an assault rifle and a hunting rifle as an example. How can govt clearly regulate abortion when they don't know difference between various female body parts, surgical vs medicine, reasons like what's ectopic or could put moms life at risk. Politicians don't do medicine

I recommend this documentary on HBO. It was wonderful to see the helpers, but yikes to how did we get here again. This was so good. I didn't hear much about pro-choice growing up (other than it was murder) since I was raised super conservative/evangelical, so hearing these stories was shocking for me.

Actual data on the Good Guy with a Gun trope: www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/06/22/us/shootings-police-response-uvalde-buffalo.htmlBottom line out of 433 mass shooting events, in only 12 events, armed citizen bystanders stopped the shooters. The other 10 events stopped by "good guys" with guns, they were security guards and off-duty cops who have, you know, actual training. So. 12:433 is less than 3%. And also, a lot of folks have to die or be injured for the trope to even kick in. It's nothing to brag about.

He was literally reading a list of people who defended themselves. it was ridic. and very very very much trope perpetrated by the NRA. a couple dems were like yeah heres another list...

BIL texted MH last night and said he was at dinner in Texas while on a work trip and the restaurant was evacuated because of an active shooter. They weren't given any info, and maybe it was just a threat? But still. MH called him when he was sure he was safe. He's not the type to overreact, and to hear him shaken up was unsettling. Fuck this shit. It feels like it's never going to end.

Lord. I know it would be chaotic to have Senators elected every 2 years but 6 years is too long. We need you to show up for 6 more months Pat.

I’m curious what the Senate will do with the bill. Will the potential swing Rs there also support this? There are 3 Senate R's (Murkowski, Collins, Toomey) who have expressed support for codifying Obergefell/Griswold. We need 7 more. I saw Portman is going to be co-sponsor and Tillis is a maybe.

Lol I love this. It's a DMV dream It sounds like the premise of a great suspense novel. Archivist at NARA gets involved in investigating presidential coup. Threats made against their life by the Secret Service, cool action sequences around the DMV, retrieving the missing documents and racing to deliver them to the Jan 6th committee before the SS gets them. Democracy saved. Bad guys jailed for seditious conspiracy. Presidential Medal if Honor awarded for valor in the face of grave danger. If only this wasn't actually real life, lolsob

There was a shooting in my neighborhood last week, near where kids were practicing baseball and close to the pool - which I think was closed at the time. But I had just taken M for the first time a few days prior. It made me want to say okay no we're not going to the pool again. But I also can't take that joy away from my kid. I hate living like this.

Tammy Duckworth has been very vocal on this point. She talks about the guns she carried and is very, there is no need for any civilian to have a weapon with that kind of power. My husband leans conservative (though becoming more and more liberal as he ages) and served two combat deployments. He is very much in agreement with this. No need for regular, untrained people to have high capacity magazines or weapons like assault rifles.
