The republican candidate for NM governor recently ran an ad stating moderate views on abortion. I worried it might make people vote for him that normally wouldn't. I assumed it was just a political move and seems confirmed here. Now hopefully everyone is paying attention to this.

I recommend this documentary on HBO. It was wonderful to see the helpers, but yikes to how did we get here again.

The Maryland primary was today and it’s one of the states where Dems are promoting the MAGA gubernatorial candidate on the R side, Dan Cox. He is currently leading in the returns over the more moderate R.
Intellectually, I understand the strategy, but it worries me. Maryland is a blue state, but we’ve had an R governor more often than not over the last 20 years. Just because this guy is MAGA doesn’t mean he can’t win here in November.
And the Dem currently leading in the returns is Wes Moore, who doesn’t have any political experience (whereas Cox is a state delegate). For whatever that’s worth.
I’m nervous.

I’m curious what the Senate will do with the bill. Will the potential swing Rs there also support this? There are 3 Senate R's (Murkowski, Collins, Toomey) who have expressed support for codifying Obergefell/Griswold. We need 7 more.

I think this is a stupid as he'll strategy. Some voted for Trump as joke til he started winning. So just cause an R is a joke or whatever doesn't mean they won't actually win.

I already know we'll go red here, but I don't see MLG losing to him. Or maybe that's just because I don't want to think about it.

I just saw an article about how Dems have (for some time) been secretly supporting extreme right wing candidates thinking it'll increase their chances of winning over a moderate right candidate and how it's obvious backfired. I wish I could remember where I saw it

Wes Moore may not have elected experience but he's been working in the policy space for a long time. Mostly education, poverty, and criminal justice. I hope he wins, he is a direction I'd love to see our politics /politicians go.
He's endorsed by some pretty powerful folks too.

I worry that his lack of elected experience will be used against him in the general.

PandaWatch my stomach turned when I saw Cox won too. The dem field is too crowded, but I'll be 100% behind whoever wins bc we need to stay a blue state.

My favorite part of the secret service texts going missing is that the National Archives will investigate. I’m sure someone there is having this moment, or at least I hope they are!! Lol I love this. It's a DMV dream

It's a DMV dream It sounds like the premise of a great suspense novel. Archivist at NARA gets involved in investigating presidential coup. Threats made against their life by the Secret Service, cool action sequences around the DMV, retrieving the missing documents and racing to deliver them to the Jan 6th committee before the SS gets them. Democracy saved. Bad guys jailed for seditious conspiracy. Presidential Medal if Honor awarded for valor in the face of grave danger.

Don't forget the will-they-won't-they romantic subplot between the archivist and the agent who believes/helps them.

Not this plot, but for sure a political drama that was pretty entertaining.

Well all of you guys should read All the Names by José Saramago. It's less John Grishammy (no shade with this comment) than what's described above, but really good about a records clerk using records to find truth.
Like in the story above Sandra bullock is our female protagonist and in this one it's more like soairse ronan. And actually Adrian Brody is the protagonist.

My mom was obsessed with Saramago for a time. Sn, I'm sorry to hear our mutual friend is moving away. They're on such big adventures.
