fatpony I always take the day off and usually have a back to school brunch with other parents. This year, I’ll be going to school with DS2 as the school nurse! Does this mean you got a new job?? If so, congrats! I did! It seems too good to be true. After 19 years in Peds ER, I’m switching to elementary school nurse. I’ll stay casual at the hospital which is just a 16 hour/month commitment. That way if it doesn’t work out for some reason, I won’t lose all my hospital seniority. I’m very excited. I know the admin and staff because all my kids attended this school and I think it will be a great fit.

I watched the new Persuasion last night and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I am going nuts trying to figure out where I have seen Cosmo Jarvis before, but I've looked over his IMDb profile a bunch and nothing is jumping out. Maybe he just looks so much like Andrew Lincoln from Walking Dead?

I unfortunately couldn’t get the fact that at some angles he looked terribly like the roach guy from MIB 🤦♀️ not to say that I didn’t like him or anything… but it was unsettling! How about that bunny though!?

I take the first day off every year (and for DS1 I did the week but I was also 20 weeks pregnant and needed to get stuff done at home). I like to get stuff done around the house that would normally be done at night because they are exhausted the first few days (I can remember Ds1 going to bed by like 6:30 for a few days).

And I think all preK/K teachers use the same sentences about the first week(s) in their class emails: "We are learning classroom routines, using our listening ears and working on our calm bodies." ETA It sounds like I’m making fun but God bless the educators. Getting my one 5YO to use his listening ears and work on calm bodies is HARD ENOUGH, I can't imagine a whole classroom full of them.

Last fall, I was one of the volunteer parents at the Halloween (they call it "fall" themed now for some reason) party for my Kindergartner. I was in awe of his teacher and how she commanded their attention while also being gentle, sweet and kind. They were enamored with her. Teachers, man. They don't deserve a tenth of the vitriol that the country has put on them.

I feel awful today. Am headed to the doctor now. I woke up and couldn't lift my head off my pillow without the room spinning. It's gotten better with time, but still feel woozy. Also had a similar episode about 2-3 weeks ago, so not feeling great about this being a recurring thing. I've never had anything like it before.

My first and only baby is 4 and starting preschool. The preschool is full day at the elementary school and it is a shared classroom with the Kinder kids. Is it weird for me to take off work for her first day? So I can drop her off and pick her up and be available if she's scared or something? I would be *shocked* if they called you. I've had kids who cried for hours the first day but we have nevvver sent a kid home unless they like, puked. The teachers know how to help kids who are nervous or having separation anxiety. She will do great!!

I've had kids who cried for hours the first day but we have nevvver sent a kid home unless they like, puked. The teachers know how to help kids who are nervous or having separation anxiety. She will do great!! Thats where my head went - like she got so upset that she puked from crying. But I know its a million to one because 1) she's never had any kind of separation anxiety, she normally doesn't even remember to give me a hug when I drop her at school/camp and 2) *knock on wood* she's never puked from crying (or even ever puked). The way my schedule works is that I work every third Saturday and am off on Tuesdays the week I work Saturday. So I just took off every Monday before the Tuesday I have off, for August-October. So for 3 months every 3 weeks I'll have a 4 day weekend. I already emailed a couple home organizers to help me get my shit together, once she's in school and I'll have child free days.

Anyone else following the lat35 crew? It’s a team of 4 women who rowed from San Francisco to Hawaii. It’s been about 4 weeks and they are expected to finish today.

blurnette989, that sounds really terrible <3 are you thinking it's a post covid thing? My thoughts all went to post-covid, diabetes, or maybe an ear infection? The doctor said those were all things we'd look at though he immediately noted no ear infection visible. He gave me some meds that i have to take for 20 days and note my blood pressure once a day. He thinks it ia likely the crystals in my ear came loose. Apparently this is a real thing, and i honestly thought we were have a language barrier issue. But some tiny little calcium crystals chill in part of your inner ear and help your body know where it is in space. So if one comes dislodged and gets into a different part of your ear it basically tells your brain confusing info about location and ao you get vertigo, because your brain can't process. It's like a fucking reboot error.

This has nothing to do with anything, but I had to share because this guy's "tribute" to his s.o. has left me speechless.

Random question for the randoms thread:
Would anyone who has/had Nexplanon be willing to PM me your experiences? My OB/GYN put me on a progesterone-only pill last year to help with hormonal migraines (I was having 3-day migraines each cycle). It's worked well, but taking the pill is kind of a PITA so at my annual yesterday she recommended Nexplanon. I still have the pill prescription, but she gave me some literature so I could think it over. I wanted to find out how others felt about it, if you're willing to share. (FTR, an IUD is definitely not an option for me.)
Thanks!

blurnette989 my mom had ear crystals do that in 2020. Her ent said to not lay on that side when sleeping and to make sure she sat up slowly to avoid dizziness.
