I had an exciting morning. My cannery is right next door to a two unit house. The renter accidentally lit her kitchen on fire (I think that she put a plastic tray on top of a hot stove). I heard the grandmother outside with the toddler and shouting for help outside my office window. I ran over there around the same time as a guy from the business across the street came over. They couldn't locate the fire extinguisher, so I ran back in to get mine. When I went back over the guy from across the street was dousing the flames with water. I yelled at him for that, but he said that he was a firefighter (and I guess had determined that it wasn't a grease fire). The flames jumped but he got them all out by the time the fire department arrived. The melted stove is outside on their lawn now. The mom came back and was just sitting on the lawn with her toddler and rocking back and forth. I wanted to give her a big hug.
Oof. That was crazy.

It’s been crazy here with events, parties, and helping people with projects.
I’m just done.
Saturday I started with yoga at 8:30, showered quick, helped with mulch until 3 (hour lunch break), ran home to have the kids shower, got the older two to a nerf night, then ran for groceries. Finally sat down at about 8pm.
Monday is my least busy, but I have a ton of paperwork to catch up on and presentations to start outlining.

MH has been in France since Thursday. He stayed with friends for a few nights and attended their wedding on Saturday. He was the witness for one of them, and the mayor (who officiated the wedding) announced the addresses of the witnesses. MH said that many people approached him afterward wanting to know about Canada and how he managed to move there lol.
He also said that his friends' kids (8 and 5yo) leave the house after breakfast and don't come back until lunchtime, then leave again until dinner (on non-school days). He said he asked them a couple of times where their girls were and they just shrugged and said oh, they'll eventually come back. They live in a small village but MH was really surprised by how laid-back they are about parenting 😅
Anyway, my mom is visiting so I'm getting lots of help with the kids!
We don't have much planned this week. L has a piano lesson tonight and N is having a friend over on Thursday morning. My main plan is to get as much reading/writing for school done as possible.

It’s the 2nd to last week of school. T is leaving for a work trip tonight. We have puppy school tomorrow night then boarding the dogs for the weekend. I’m flying to meet T in NYC Wednesday. He’ll be working so I plan on maybe a museum, a matinee show, and wandering the city. Then we have a friend’s wedding Saturday, just North of the city and we’ll drive home together on Sunday. So thankful for my MIL to stay with the girls and that all our big PTA events are over for the year.

mintyblueair, your husband's experience reminds me of the book Bringing Up Bebe by Pamela Druckerman. She's an American raising children in France, and she talks about how different it is. IIRC her husband is French.

IIRC her husband is French. Yes, I know that book! I read it when I was pregnant with my first and it really resonated with me. French parenting is less intensive in some ways, but stricter in others. I can't imagine that Parisian parents let their kids run around the city unsupervised, but in village/farm life maybe it's more common. My husband grew up on a farm and he and his brothers spent most of their days playing outside unsupervised.
