I met with a personal trainer this morning and I really, really liked him. It's the first time I've ever considered spending money on someone. He has a PhD in functional biology so I think I just really jive well with him. We chatted research (he used to develop diabetes drugs in California) and nutrition strategies. I guess I feel like he really knows his shit. The other ones I've met with seem only into how to do movements/ make plans. I really liked that this guy knew his shit and was coming at it from sleep/nutrition/work out etc.
But all that to say that he took measurements and I didn't believe them! I have been having scale issues so I wasn't weighing myself. When he weighed me I was convinced it was wrong so we went to another scale. And holy shit. I have lost 28lbs since January, not 16. And 13% body fat! I am so so proud of myself! And throwing out my damn scale which keeps telling me I'm not losing anything.
Lol sorry for the novel.

jedi, he is a big advocate for stabilized blood sugars. So eating a lot of fat/protein to keep the insulin response to a minimum. I had just been reading some research about stable blood sugar and so it was kind of cool. Not necessarily low carb just emphasizing good fats and protein. (like instead of just straight oatmeal for breakfast, to try having something that also incorporates fat and protein). I did do that on Whole 30 and found increasing fat really decreased my hunger (especially at breakfast when I never used to typically eat fat) so it was a cool connection.

So my new yoga mat came today, so I commit to going to a hot yoga class tomorrow or Friday (maybe Friday as I might bike to work tomorrow). We leave for camping for a couple of days next week, but when we return I hope to start the whole 30 again and incorporate increased physical activity to see how that might help my weight and mood situation! I will continue to lurk you all here and try to get inspired.

I'm intrigued It's 10 dollars a month and it provides you with a macro count based on your goal. Macros are a certain number of fat, protein and carbs per day. Some people are trying to repair metabolism, some are losing weight, some are trying build muscle. You check in each week with your weight and body fat percentage and it adjusts your macros based on that. I'm doing the fixing metabolism. I don't think it was to broken but (aside from my binge last week) I've maintained my weight. I am eating roughly 2200 calories a day currently. Started at 1700 about 2 months ago.

So I've mentioned before that I started doing Orange Theory Fitness classes. I really like them, but they're HARD and also expensive. When you sign up, you also have to purchase a heart rate monitor to wear in all the classes. I was kind of annoyed at first since it was an extra $50, but there is an app and you can sync it to your phone and use it for any workout (not just OTF).
Guys. Get a heart rate monitor! It's kind of amazing. I'm going to start wearing mine for all my workouts. It's really motivating because it pushes me to be in my target "Orange" zone, which is 84% +. It's an accurate measurement of your effort and calories burned. I wore one for 45 min mixed cardio/strength workout at lunch and burned 433 calories.

Took the girls to the park and then power walked the longgggg way home. Feeling good and my eating has been on point, even though I've been having ridiculous carb cravings *high five*

DH bought me one about 5 years ago and it's still my favourite. It has the chest strap that connects to a watch. Also it really helped me decide how to spend my time. Like in spin I want to die and I burned 600 cals. At power lifting I actually enjoy it a lot and it burned 730 cals. So now I know to just go to power and not feel like I'm missing out. I like it for strength days too because you can adjust your rest time between sets to keep yourself in a higher burning zone while still doing exactly the same workout you would've anyway.

I check in with avatar nutrition tomorrow. I'm pretty sure my weight is going to stay roughly the same which means I'll likely get a calorie increase. Woooot!!
I'm trying to get my calories as high as possible so when I create a calorie deficit I'm still eating 2000ish cals

Uh...I exercised today for the first time since July 9. Which directly corresponds to the day E stopped taking naps and when he decided 9pm or later is a good bedtime! So it was slow and I only went 2.5 miles but it is better than nothing

RunsforWineandCarbs, don't do the scale! And when you work out try not to go too hard on your neck. It's a battle but you are continuously working and doing a great job!

Putting it here so I'm accountable in the morning. I have to do better. I've let myself go this past month and I'm disgusted with myself. Going to the gym tomorrow to start back with weights and getting my eating back on track. My birthday was awful as far as food is concerned. I have zero control around sweets and things have just been flowing through the door the past few days. Huge donuts, donut holes, chocolate covered strawberries, my first attempt at a bday cake that broke apart but still tastes fine, cupcakes, and a giant birthday cake my parents got for me are all sitting in my house right now. I'm already in my workout clothes and I've loaded new music onto my phone so I am going to do this. No excuses.
