Sort of. DD is 10 but has some muscle/grip weakness due to all the medication. It is improving but definitely depends on the bottle.
DD2 is almost 4 and definitely has more hand strength than DD1. She opens bottles easily.

Not having kids, I haven’t opened this thread until now. I was totally picturing a baby opening a baby bottle, then was like, nah, that can’t be what they’re talking about 🤣 so here I am.
For the spreadsheet, tying shoes is a life skill
And I’m constantly helping 5-8 year olds open bottles at school. Like others have said, they can generally open them once the seal is broken but they definitely have a hard time opening sealed bottles.

DS is a lefty, we think he got it from my mom because H and I are right handed.
but nobody can remember if she was left or right handed. But my sisters 4 kids are all left handed despite everyone being right handed.
Anyways, will be trying the bunny loop method soon for him.

Yes, my 9 year old can I would say 90% of the time. I am here too with my youngest. DD pretty much has it. Every now and then there is a hard bottle.

Well I guess her sugar craving got the best of her. 6yo DD got a Gatorade bottle today. It took her a while and was persistent. Guess she didn't want the easily accessible water.

Sometimes. They understand the concept but sometimes struggle with the cap itself.

Our preschool implemented "snack scissors" for kids to use, which is genius.

I'm trying to remember if I could open a bottle at that age and then I realized I was just drinking iced tea that my mom made from powdered mix and kept in a pitcher from the Tupperware lady. Or hose water. kool-aid over here. I learned righty tighty lefty loosy from drinking from the hose. 🤣

I didn’t know so many kids loved Gatorade. DS swears it makes him run faster because it has a lightning bolt. He’s 8.

I didn’t know so many kids loved Gatorade. Honestly, it's the most overrated unnecessary drink unless you are dehydrated, sick, in extreme heat, or in extreme athletics. I don't even buy it but was asked to get it for the soccer team and the meet was cancelled so it's been in the back of my van for a week. My 6 and 7yo DDs are like junkies going to get it in secret like I don't know what they are doing So in conclusion, persistence is key as well as a parent who refuses to help open it. They probably used their teeth. Sick of opening bottles for your kid? Just say no and they will probably learn quickly if they want it badly enough.

My almost-5yo can open most bottles, depends on how tight they are. She's also practicing shoe-lace-tying. I have no idea if she holds a pencil correctly. I know I don't so it's really a tossup. When I say he doesn’t hold a pencil properly, I mean he holds it like a trowel. 🥴 I don't hold my pencil properly (leftie with two right handed parents.) My 5 year old used a pencil grip in school until he was able to do it correctly. I've actually been surprised how many things I do "wrong" (different!) than right handed people. I still really struggle with scissors. 😐

I didn’t know so many kids loved Gatorade. My kids mostly love it because they don't get a ton of it. I buy it for race season because we have had issues with dehydration after their races before. Both them and us chasing them through the woods. 🤣 I buy the zero sugar kind most of the time. Which reminds me, I still need to pick some up for the race this weekend. Shit.

Gatorade is the go-to drink parents are asked to bring for the team after any game.
We don’t offer it at home, but it’s swarmed on after any game.

Should I start a thread for husbands who can't CLOSE bottles and jars all the way, so that when you grab the pickle jar fluid sloshes out on you?!? Or is that just my H? 🤦

What if everyone sent their kid to school with a lunch that needed adult help? Chaos. What if everyone had a kid who was independent at lunch? Much better.

I didn’t know so many kids loved Gatorade. It’s the post-sports go-to drink. Kids will put up with extra long practices knowing there’s a blue Gatorade at the snack shop afterwards.

I asked DS if he can open Gatorade and water bottles and he was very skeptical of the question. He said of course but he also wanted to know why I needed to know and who I was telling.

Did you guys drink those? I'm gagging a little. The 80s and 90s were such an amazing time to be a child. Those drinks were pure sugar and chemicals. I was always so excited when a parent brought them for a field trip or after a sports game.

Early FFC- I still buy these occasionally for my kids. Like special occasions like birthday party or if we are going to my parents' camper for a cookout/party type thing in the summer.

I’m pretty sure a quarter of the parents wouldn’t let their kids drink those radioactive disasters.
