We knew this was coming bit it still feels so surreal to watch. Thinking of Ukrainian people today. I hope the sanctions are swift and severe.

At this point I donβt think they care. Other than to use their position as a podium to keep justifying and disinformationing They had tacit US support from tfg for four years and were able to plan this pretty throughly Remember they were a G7 member until Obama years other than again with tfg they didnβt fight very hard to rejoin there

Serious question: are sanctions even going to work at this point? i don't think so. I think those making decisions will be shielded from the effects and Putin gives no fucks about the Russian people. There is a good possibility that the support shown between Russia and china suggests China will be financially supportive to those that would be subjected to western sanctions. China is just as interested in anything that devalues the dollar and destabilizes US power.

Serious question: are sanctions even going to work at this point? I honestly don't know. But I also don't know what else we can do other than go to war which is a complete non-starter (thankfully).

I suspect he's trying to move swiftly enough that his takeover happens before the rest of the world can react. We had this military intelligence prior though, so I really hope everyone is ready to react just as swiftly. Because next up are the political assassinations/murders and the camps. I do feel good about our level of alarm now. It felt like most outlets last week said biden was being overblown but here we are. There are a lot of people who owe the IC a major apology today

For those who feel the need to do something in a situation we have no control over, a Ukrainian friend recommended this relief organization for donations. It appears the payment platform is down but I am going to keep on checking periodically to see if they are able to get it back up/switch control to an out-of-country point of control. razomforukraine.org/Also for those of us who work for companies that match donations to charity organizations, donβt forget to take advantage!

I feel weird and pissed about all of this. My grandfather (he adopted my dad) was Ukrainian and I have a very Ukrainian last name. Since I didnβt know about the adoption until way later Iβve always said I have Ukrainian ancestry. When I was born everyone but my grandfather had passed (that he knew) on that side but I canβt help but wonder what he would be thinking right now and how devastated heβd be. I know his heart would be hurting for all of the innocent people.

Today's The Daily is sobering. They have Times journalists live blogging from inside Ukraine. God bless and protect these people who put themselves in harm's way to inform the world.

Thinking of our posters in Europe right now. It's unnerving from a continent away, so I hope you and your families are doing ok!

I'm no expert but I also feel like they've been doing a good job of broadcasting what they're seeing in intel to help warn against disinformation coming out of Russian outlets too.

The young woman live reporting on NBC at 10:30 last night was very difficult to watch. She had on a flack jacket and helmet while she stumbled through the report struggling to concentrate. She was clearly very shaken and it was very humbling to see these reports unfold live while they are in harm's way.

I know his heart would be hurting for all of the innocent people. My maternal grandmother came over from the Ukraine as an infant and my parents were married in the Ukrainian Catholic church. My granny passed away last year and I know she would feel the same. I remember when we were little and after we outgrew clothes, she would package them and send them to family there. I'm not sure if anyone is still in contact with them though.

I wish I could say I'm shocked at people blaming Biden for this, but I'm not. Like put the blame squarely where it lies, Putin. they also seem to forget that one of the first things TFG did was lift the sanctions Obama put in place right before he left office, and then welcomed Lavrov & Co to the Oval with open arms and show them classified material.
I dont want our people in Ukraine but I want them there. I feel like it HAS to be us unfortunately.
