Who has gym equipment (besides cardio machines) at home? Total Gym? Bowflex? Rogue racks?
I'm interested in gym equipement and my husband wants a full squat rack with bench that can fold up in the garage but it's expensive. I'm worried that we'll buy it thinking "look how much we'll save on a gym membership" and we'll still end up going to a gym for various reasons.

We have a pretty basic bench/bar/free weights set up in the basement along with the treadmill. My H uses it, but I really am not great about doing weights when I'm not at the gym. Do you have to have the fold up option? Because our non-fold up variety was pretty cheap.

I have a set of Select Tech weights from Bowflex, they adjust from 5 lbs to 52.5 and I love them. It's an investment but replaces multiple sets of free weights. My next investment will be a pull up/power tower because I want to try P90X for my next workout program. I get your concern, I feel the same way because I have bought sets of equipment in the past that collect dust. If you think you will still regularly go to the gym, you might see how often you use the equipment there before deciding. I don't regularly do anything unfortunately. I'm mostly interested in strength training as is my husband but it's really difficult for me to get to the gym right now. I didn't know Bowflex made the adjustable weights. My husband wants some of those too, so I'll look into them. He's interested in slowly building a home gym but again, I'm worried they'll collect dust. He goes to the gym sporadically. Often for a few months regularly and then an off month or two, then back to the gym again so if we had it at home, it might be easier but again, I worry about him saying that he can't do x,y or z at home, so he'll want a gym membership anyway. Where as I'd probably be fine never going to the gym again. lol.

Currently we have room in the basement for a huge set up, eventually that will go away though as we grow our family. The idea was to have it fold up in the garage. Currently the 3rd bay is a shop and he already parks outside so I'd have to permanently park outside (nooooo thank you) if we wanted to set up something that didn't fold up. This is why I was thinking about finding a bowflex or something like the rogue systems that fold up.

I would definitely love home equipment but I love my trainer and some of my classes at the gym, so I know I wouldn't save money.

I use Powerblocks and a bench. They have attachments so you can use a bar or mqke them into kettleballs. I have been very happy with them.

I have no bench... but have an Olympic barbell and plates. I got them from FIL so can't pass up free. I mostly use a set of rings, jump rope, and a few dumbbells/kettle bells I've been given or accumulated and a weighted vest.
I'd love a squat cage, but yeah $$$. I'm a minimalist (aka cheap AF) so it works.
Edited because my ass doesn't jingle. Lol...bumbell. Jiggle yes, jingle no.

Check local buy/sell sites. Also check with gyms in the area to see if they have any equipment they are replacing. If you have colleges, make sure to contact their rec centers and athletic facilities. They often have surplus sales for the items they are cycling out of use.
If you are going to use it, get a decent rack. We got a cheap one (Marcy) and when we order our new one that one will be put for sale for the low price of "get it the fuck out of my house". We are looking at Rogue for now. We need safeties, so that eliminates the ES-1 rack for us. The S-1 with safeties is likely what we are looking at. We have an Adidas flat bench to use with it.

They have an app for iPhone as well that has some good programs and workouts that help keep me accountable and on a schedule. One of my favorite pieces of home workout equipment.

If your are in the states buys free weights you can usually get a good deal on metric weights because apparently we just can't handle things that don't end in 5 or 0.
You pay buy the pound but a 10lbs plate cost more than it's metric counterpart that comes in at 11lbs. Pretty sure my body can't tell if I measure in lbs or kg.

Weights are almost always sold by the lb (or kg). And all those weights end in .5 or a 5 or 0, so ::shruggy guy::

They had both and the 10lbs were right next to the 11lbs (5kg) and were more expensive. Perhaps just liquidating tactics? Maybe because they were labeled stupidly? None of them have metric numbers on them. Just the English. They were cast that way too. No where on them are kg marked but all the plates are 3, 5.5, 11, 22, 33, 44 with raised poundage markings.

If you go to second hand places (and most new weights) it is $x.xx per lb unless you are buying a full set. The quality of the plates can make a big price difference as well. They likely just wanted someone to get those off their hands. Which was great for you!
