I'll start this off early since since I haven't started work yet.
DH and I were planning a date night with a couple friends for next week...which is actually going to turn out to be a date Sunday afternoon. Anyway, we were looking at the calendar and realized we do not have a single free weekend from now until September 9th. It's insane. We literally have only 2 days where something is not planned.

DS woke up way too early this morning, as he does pretty much every morning. We're free until 1 which is when we have to leave for speech/OT camp. We'll probably head to the library to get his reading program thing stamped for his 2nd prize when they open. I'm also participating so I'll hand mine in too. Each one is a drawing for various prizes & adults also get a little prize. I got a purse last time. Lol some handmade one from Ecuador I think, it's really not that bad. They pulled them out after showing me the regular pens & stationary like, "oh you can choose these too" as if no one does.

Today is the last day of this training series. I am afraid to check my email tomorrow, I haven't been to the office since Monday...😯

Sometimes we'll read together & try to sound things out that I know he knows or *should know* that are sight words from kindergarten but he usually just wants to hear the story & doesn't want to do the work. Smh That makes sense! I just wasn't sure because when we went to a meeting back in May for the incoming parents of kindergartners they were telling us that the kids will know how to ready by mid-end of the school year. Since your DS starts first grade next year, I thought maybe kids really are reading by the end of kindergarten and that I am just crazy for thinking they wouldn't be. He sounds like DD. When I try to get her to read with me, she doesn't want to be bothered. She just wants to here the story. It's going to be an interesting year at school. She has no desire to do a lot of the things they are telling us we should be doing with her over the summer. No clue how to change that behavior.

misspeansmama I believe there were a few kids in his class that seemed to know how to read towards the end of the school year but I feel like they had late birthdays (Oct/Nov missing the bday cutoff the year before) so he had quite a few kids almost a year older than him since his birthday is late August. I kept this in mind. I know of at least one kid that was redshirted for sure & he was reading, I don't count him. It's like no wonder kids are all over the place. He was the youngest in his class. I'm not overly worried about it since all his scores on his assessments were way above average so I think kids reading in kindergarten is actually advanced. They'd like for kids to be reading but I honestly think it comes in 1st grade.

With a Dec 8th birthday she missed the cutoff, which is Dec 1st where we live. I do think it worked out for her, there was no way she was ready last year. But she is so dang stubborn about things. Hopefully the teachers can work magic and get her to do things I cannot.

When school first ended, we talked about continuing work, etc during the summer & he was all "no but you're not Ms. D" like wtf. He would always reference that he does things in school because that's school & his teacher is his teacher & we're parents & those worlds don't collide. Lolol So what I'm saying is that he did really good in school & is the worst at home so she might be the same.

misspeansmama, our niece reads really well, and she just finished kindergarten and is starting 1st grade in the fall. She is older though too, I'm not sure if she missed the cut-off or if they kept her out for a year because she had some issues adjusting to pre-school, she's turning 7 in October. My MIL also is a retired special needs teacher, and since SIL is a single mom, she's basically been our niece's second parent, and I think she and her endless patience are also huge contributing factors into that. So, I'm sure it's totally possible, but like so many things, probably really kid-dependent also. Our niece also seems to be super into reading herself, too. It's really cute, whenever we see her she always wants to show off by reading books to us and DS.

But if she doesn't have the desire to do something, forget it. Trying to force it on her will just end up in a screaming match and ultimately tears. That is great that your MIL has been able your SIL (and your niece) like that.

We went to the library & now we're back home. DS had some lunch & now he's snacking before we have to leave. Back on the topic of schooling, we got a message yesterday about how now that your child is going to 1st grade, bus service is for kids that live 1 mile or more. They apparently bussed all kindergartners regardless of distance as long as you were in the school district. DS didn't ride because he had some weird anxiety about it but we were still on the route & I didn't mind anyways. We had planned on him riding the bus at least in the mornings come the fall. I googled our distance just because, I thought we were safe. Depending on what route you take it's about 1/1.1 miles so I called them because it's so close. They said it depends on what their system "spits out." Some kind of geocoding. They got back to me later in the day. We don't qualify. Our distance you ask? .941 Like wow. First off, I had no idea about this 1 or more mile bs. Our town is super small. Second, it's so damn close like come on. We're not exactly in feasible walking distance for a soon to be 6 year old since I've heard them complain about the car line. When in you're in our shoes that live .059 under the limit, you kind of have to drive with a little one. They mentioned we can fill out a space available form to see if they have a bus that passes by anyways but they said those don't get looked at until mid-September when routes get figured out. I'm thoroughly annoyed. Another setback for when I'm looking for jobs as far as scheduling goes.

NamasteBirches, That is frustrating. It might be worth filling out the space availability form in case you do find a job that cannot accommodate you taking DS back and forth to school. Who knows, they might be able to get him on a route. I have to believe if someone takes the time to fill out the paperwork and you are not insanely far from the normal route they should be able to get him on the bus.

What sucks is that it does say it can't take any additional time off from the regular route & they won't make new stops so I'm assuming they won't pick him up at the house then. I guess when the routes get published closer to the first day of school, we'll see if anything is closeby which would be awkward if it's at someone else's house. Idk how that would work. When I first read this form, I skimmed but now the situation seems weird. We'd have to walk to a stop that could be someone's house. So idk. I guess we'll see.

DD is reading somewhat independently. She was in a daycare class with all older kids which really helped. She would work at home during the school year but she refuses now.

Omfg there's a guy here with his little girl in the waiting room & she's running all over the place with one of those toys with a the pull string. He just keeps hollering out 'come on, come on.' This isn't your damn house. Have some freaking respect. So the girl was running around this desk with it & it caught my leg. All he said was 'don't do that. Say you're sorry' (which she didn't) & that's it. I gave him the dirtiest of looks. He's pissing me off. He's just sitting there eating too.

Hey misspeansmama you've been to Canada recently. When you go, do you use cash or your cards to pay for things?

Hey misspeansmama you've been to Canada recently. When you go, do you use cash or your cards to pay for things? A little of both. You get the best rate paying with credit. If you want to bring cash I recommend calling your bank ahead of time and asking them to order Canadian for you (if they don't have it on hand). You'll get a way better exchange rate that way than you would if you exchanged at the border. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Currently sitting on the couch watching RHONJ. It's been a busy day. We went to the children's museum for a craft and the nature center for a demo about caring for wildlife. We stopped for ice cream after and later my son had swim lessons. It was so hot today. The nature center didn't have ac. They had a lot of fans but still omg so hot. I was really tempted to jump in the pool at swim lol
