Ok, got it. I was nervous for a minute. I mean, I told him the pharmacist was wrong and he was fine to get a booster whenever. 🤣 But it was just a weird random recommendation. I’m surprised nelzie got told something similar. That's so weird, I've not heard that anywhere else. I guess at least it wasn't just me, lol. In case it is true I'm going to just get mine both together later this week. I need my flu shot by Nov 15 for work and I don't want to wait another 3 weeks for my covid Booster.

We got an email from preschool today that masks are required (have been since August) and that parents must provide said masks. If you won’t then you can find another school. I knew there were a few moms throwing fits, but I didn’t think it was a Thing beyond them. 🙄

Az seems to be leading the nation in highest increase in number of cases. We are up 43%.
Thats what happens when it cools off outside. Az has parties. Theres been like 6 neighbor parties this week, each with over 100 people in attendance. Theres usually indoor food, go outside to eat.
Huge number of people packed in the stadium for games.
Yes its outside mostly but get enough people together shoulder to shoulder in small space...

I got my booster yesterday and feel like garbage today. And of course today is the day that, surprise, neither kids' busses are running, so they need to be taken to and picked up from two different schools at different times. I hope I get superhuman immunity, because this sucks. Everyone cross your fingers that there is no along the way. Still better than covid.

We got a note from preschool saying that we can opt in or out of masks for our kids. If your kid has to quarantine and misses school, you will get a tuition credit if you have signed off that you choose to mask your kid. You will NOT get one if you choose not to. I have a feeling some parents are going to be mad. Ha ha ha. I love it.

We had three more kids out sick in my class today. All cold/respiratory symptoms. I'm hoping just regular colds.

Our city schools got cutesy and now call it Mask to Stay and Test to Play, for being able to stay in school if you're a direct contact and/or play sports, respectively.
I still don't get the mask to stay because masks are mandated anyway. The kids are wearing one regardless. I don't know if they are giving us forewarning that it will change soon or what.

I have also heard that you have to ask get the flu/booster the same day or much more spaced out. I don't remember what timeline they mentioned, but the person in front of me at the pharmacy wanted to schedule her booster after getting her flu shot and the pharmacist was telling her that. The customer finally convinced the pharmacist that 12 hours apart was still "the same day" and let her get the second shot. I wasn't paying super close attention, but the pharmacist was saying that it had something to do with immune response timing or some such.

I am supposedly getting both today. CVS let me book them at the same time. Oh I know you can do it at the same time. But the pharmacist told my H since he wasn’t doing both at the same time, he needed to wait 3 weeks, which I’ve never heard. I think I was told the same but I admit to ignoring them and half ass listening. I opted not to get the flu shot when they offered.

Is there anyone that knows anything about mixing AstraZeneca and Pfizer or Moderna? My uncle is here and he got two AstraZeneca shots in Colombia and is wondering if he should booster with a mRNA one. I’ve found a few articles that say one dose of AZ and one of P were great but I don’t have a ton of time to research it or look for info about 2 AZ and one P. Canada has tons of research on this, tldr thousands of ppl between 35-50 got AZ followed by an mRNA booster, and they’ve had the best immune responses of everyone including those of us with larger spacing between doses. yes I read the same as Tlex

This must be wording they got from the state, because we have the same policy wording, even though we also have a mandate in the school. I know other schools around do not, or have dropped theirs, so those kids have to wear the mask instead of quarantine.

We got notified by DOH yesterday that my son was a close contact to someone who tested positive. The school notified us and basically said because they were practicing safe schooling that it was up to the parents discretion if we wanted to quarantine or send our kids in. Has anyone else had something similar happen? I was under the impression that unvaccinated kids still needed to quarantine regardless of masking.

Yet another positive in my kid’s class. Since DS had tummy troubles last night, we went for a test today. Thankfully negative.
My kid was almost never sick in preschool or daycare, but he’s already missed several days for illness in K.

The baby and I have taken eleventy walks. I don’t know if going out for walks is against quarantine rules but we run into no one (yay unwalkable neighborhood) and he’s in a stroller. I figure I’m reducing the likelihood of him infecting the one person he actually has contact with (me). ðŸ˜

I'm listening to the ACIP comment period and they're voting now.

They are currently going one by one to adopt the recommendation that children 5-11 get the Pfizer vaccine. All doctors are being asked if they have conflicts of interest and then yes or no.

One of the doctors said that she is a provider and a mother and she is taking her child to get the vaccine in order to do her part to avoid the death of a 96th child from covid in the US.

The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices unanimously recommended Pfizer’s and BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11, sending it to Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky for her final approval.
If she signs off on the recommendation, which is expected as early as late Tuesday, vaccinations for young kids could begin immediately. As many as 28 million kids in the U.S. are eligible for the shots, which will be administered at one-third of the dosage for teens and adults.

DOH does send out the message as "Someone in your household" so maybe they don't have the exact person or their vaccination status here.

DS's school announced that they're going to partner with area health departments and have a clinic. I might still try to get him in earlier, but it's nice to know it will be an option.

a recap from a pedicatric NP in a vaccine hunting FB group I'm in:
Remember, this does NOT mean it’s a go yet! We’re still waiting on the final step, approval by the CDC director, Dr. Walensky. However, we expect this to happen shortly (within the next 24 hrs or even later tonight). She may just approve their recommendations or she may make changes, like she did with the booster doses.
However, based on the ACIP meeting today, here are the current clinical considerations for pediatric Pfizer vaccine that may help answer some of your questions (yes, I listened to the entire hearing so you don’t have to)!
The grace period for minimum age of vaccination is 4 days, meaning that children are technically eligible 4 days before they turn 5, although it will be up to the vaccinator’s policy as well
If your child is 11 and will turn 12 before their second dose, they should receive the 10mcg dose for dose 1 and the 30mcg dose for dose 2. However, the 10mcg dose is also acceptable (and is actually what was studied in the trial for kids in this situation).
If your child has had COVID-19, vaccination is recommended as soon as they have finished their isolation period and have recovered. Antibodies from infection are unlikely to be sufficient for prolonged protection.
Immunocompromised children will receive the standard 2 doses. There is currently an ongoing study evaluating effectiveness in immune compromised children ages 2-18 and this may change as we get more information
Boosters: No recommendations for boosters at this time (same as age 12-17)
Side effect profile: much better for kids than adolescents! Most common: pain at the injection site, fatigue, headache. Only 6-7% of kids: fever and chills. Side effects were only very slightly more common if kids previously had COVID-19.
Children with a history of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS-C): If your child has a history of MIS-C, they are recommended to get vaccinated after it has been more than 90 days after the case of MIS-C and they have returned to normal cardiac function, as long as the MIS-C occurred before the COVID-19 vaccine series started.
