I have not had to tackle this specific issue, but just want to say I LOVE how supportive you are and how mature your DD and her friend are... it's heartwarming. I have always held the opinion that as my own DD ages I want to be positive and supportive of what she wants to do with her own body in regards to cosmetics and grooming (within reason of course), and I just love to see that in practice.
Anyway, I do use and love tinkle razors and I agree that would be the gentlest at this age

I feel like an outlier, I get irritation and ingrowns when I use the tinkle razors. I am extra prone to ingrowns in general, though.

I also tinkle.
Now if I could get my beard hair lasered off I'd be even happier.

Hi! I know I haven't posted in ages but I still lurk and wanted to chime in with how wonderfully you are handling this. I started bleaching my upper lip in third grade after being made fun of. Honestly I still feel self conscious when I think about that. Other than having to sit still while the bleach sits, it's pretty non-invasive. I always used Jolen. I wax it now, but wouldn't recommend it for a 9 year old because it does hurt, especially right under the nostrils. So great that she has such supportive and girls in her circle!

I always break out with waxing so recommend a tinkle razor. I cleanse, apply shave cream, shave, apply aloe then regular moisturizer and avoid irritation. Bleaching wouldn’t cut it for me. I think I’m going to start with this, and if the upkeep is too much, we’ll book a wax appointment. This is what I did with DD1. She decided quickly she didn't like the upkeep & wanted to move to wax. DD2 uses a tinkle razor & doesn't mind the upkeep at all. Team start with tinkle razors & move to professional waxer if that doesn't work. Good luck!

I'll also say I had a really hard time taking my kid to a waxing place, just because it felt SO GROWN to be there doing this adult thing. So sending you some hugs. It's hard to watch our babies spread their wings💜

Is a tinkle razor different than the finishing touch razor that was posted? I have the finishing touch for legs and the small one for eyebrows. I use the leg one on my jaw line and around my mouth and it's still gentle enough for my face even though its bigger.
I'm sure you both will figure out what works the best ❤❤

I use the finishing touch Flawless when I am "on the go" and realize my stache is coming in. There is no blade so I would feel more comfortable than starting with the tinkle. Partially because I have nicked myself with the tinkle on occasion.

I have some coarser hair on my jawline it doesn't always get and I have to pluck, so the tinkle might be good for that

I also tinkle. Now if I could get my beard hair lasered off I'd be even happier. i tried that years ago and it didn’t work. It lasted maybe 3 months after the last treatment and then I was right back to neck beard maintenance

I tinkled it off, and she gave me a big hug and thanked me. 😭
It took longer than I thought, because I was stressed about cutting her, but I didn’t!

I would also have her use a razor instead of waxing.

My daughter is 8 years old and will be 9 in a month. She first came home from a school last year asking what a unibrow was. I was heartbroken years before this when my own family would point out her “hairiness”, and instinctually knew it was an issue I would have to face early with her, so when she came home asking I cannot say I was surprised and knowing it was coming never makes it any easier. I first asked her to share with me where her curiosity was coming from. She shared with me that students told her she had an unibrow. I asked her how it made her feel and she said that she knew it was a bad feeling even though she didn’t know why. I told her she is beautiful and I shared my story about being teased to show her she was not alone. I then armed her with facts and a definition of the word. I looked up different photos that came up when looking for the definition and asked her if she thinks that she sees her eyebrows in any of them. I told her that all women make a decision about their own hair in life and some decide that they love themselves just the way they are and I showed her a photo of a model with a gorgeous unibrow. She looked at me and then hugged me and said she loved me. I did have to tell her that most of us decide to remove the hair but that it always your own personal choice because it is your body and your hair and your decision. And there is no wrong choice. I told her that if she ever is at a place where she finds herself thinking of her hair and it is distracting her from what she is doing or if it is making her feel badly about herself then we would make a plan right there and then to find a solution that works best for her. It is now a year later and she knows how and why and thatshe is ready to make a plan and that the areas she wants to address first are her unibrow and her upper lip which she is teased about as having a mustache. I came on this thread to find advise and I am so grateful for all of you from the bottom of my heart.
I am finding myself being intimidated by the professional salon route with waxing for her at such a young age. But I know that her skin and her experience needs to be handled with care. Did anyone go this route and can you share your thoughts and advice please

THIS! I'm shocked at the lengths some of you are going to for YOUNG girls for facial hair. I'm not shocked that girls are wanting to get rid of facial hair at a young age or anything, but this is the easiest and safest way IMO. And to be quite honest, as a woman with dark hair who has battled facial hair her entire (41 year) life, it's also the most effective for quick and painless removal! I did bleaching, waxing, threading, etc. and they were all fine, but this is so quick and easy to do at home and works just as well. I mean, the tinkle razors are fine too, but I wouldn't want my 9 YO using one of those.

I was confused where it says "obviously she's wearing a mask" before seeing the date. I was shocked if kids were still masking at school in 2024.

Like the info might still be helpful to people, are "zombie threads" always bad? I don’t necessarily think they’re bad, but I appreciate the zombie thread heads up, as I’m a skimmer. There have been instances when I spent time thoughtfully crafting a reply to someone’s conundrum only to then realize that they probably solved the problem several years ago. 🤦♀️

Well I can report back that at 11.5 she is almost able to do it herself! It still works fine to shave it. I prefer the no mo stache brand razor. It’s sharper and folds up so the blade is covered.
It has to be done at least once a week so I would eventually like her to do it herself or use an alternative removal method.
