orangebird2020 I'm so sorry. I hope they've given parents some information by now. I'm angry that this is just something were supposed to deal with in this country, it's too much.

School text a few minutes later that they are shelter in place. Thank you all for the thoughts. I am thankful for a place to post to get myself back to a reasonable place.
I set myself up to get local news alerts after this type of scenario happened near a coworkers kids school across town last month.

orangebird2020 ,chances are your kids are currently on lockdown if it is close by. Just wait for more information. CNN is reporting about a shooting near/at a school with twitter info from the police department. Thanks, luckily that shooting on CNN isn't the one here. One state over. I hope everyone is safe there in TX as well as that sounds terrifying. I don't know what it is about today, but the high school in my town had someone arrested outside with a gun and then the next town over had an incident of someone armed inside the school today. I guess with covid and everyone home it was easy to put these fears towards the back of my mind, but it seems like weekly there is something at the high school and it has me unnerved. Hugs to you <3 ETA it does seem like more than activity than before covid, but my DD1 was only in 1st grade and maybe I just wasn't hearing about it?

dc2london I would have reacted the same. Birds are fine in their natural habitat but I don't like them and fuck no to them in my home. It reminded me of when I was at Glacier and one morning at breakfast we were chatting with a couple who woke up in the middle of the night because a BAT WAS ON THE WIFE'S FACE. I did a thorough investigation of our room (it was Many Glacier Hotel, historic so very very old) before I went to sleep that night. I woke up to a bat in my house once. None of the 4 cats we lived with gave me a heads up. Those jerks. And both my roommates were away. Also jerks. I called the (non emergency) police. The town cops provided wildlife services. They sent a hot cop. He looked really young and I'm convinced he got the call as a kind of hazing. He was not thrilled to be there. He used my tennis racket to scoot the bat into a box and took it to the DPH for rabies testing. And that's my bat anecdote.

It was on top of our fridge and I startled it when I came home from work and began getting water out of the built in dispenser. It panicked and jumped over my head, which is when our dumbo dog finally realized it was in the house. It ended up going up our ch9meny which is how we suspect it got in. We assumed it got out until a week later when we started having a big and stank problem. It got stuck in the chimney and died, so that was a fun extraction and clean up. YOU HAD ONE JOB, DOG! We had a bat in our apartment once too. I called our landlord in a panic and he was all "yeah? And? You deal with it". Thankfully it landed on a flag we had on the wall and H was able to put a 5 gallon bucket over it, we took down the flag, and tossed both the bucket and flag acting as a lid off the balcony. Terrifying though. Stay in your space, bats.

'The World Health Organization on Wednesday endorsed the first ever vaccine to prevent malaria, debuting a tool that could save the lives of tens of thousands of children in Africa each year. Malaria is among the oldest known and deadliest of infectious diseases. It kills about half a million people each year, nearly all of them in sub-Saharan Africa — among them 260,000 children under age 5. The new vaccine, made by GlaxoSmithKline, rouses a child’s immune system to thwart Plasmodium falciparum, the deadliest of five malaria pathogens and the most prevalent in Africa. The vaccine is not just a first for malaria — it is the first developed for any parasitic disease.' A ‘Historical Event’: First Malaria Vaccine Approved by W.H.O. nyti.ms/3lgKQXX

so last night there was some sort of TINY flying bug on the wall behind my nightstand. I didnt see it but my big 125lb GSD sat next to my bed whining and barking at the wall. then would look at me and whine some more. I'm like "WHAT are you whining at? Is it a ghost? Did timmy fall down the well? WHAT?" more whining (and I dont know if you are familiar with GSD whines but they're hilarious) Even the cats were like WTF dude WE dont see anything. after about an hour of this I finally found it, squashed it and he looked at me gave a HUGE sigh and went and laid down on the bed.

The fact that he’s still allowed in office is infuriating. Not specifically this comment but it is indicative of his age and absolute obtuse view of the world.

We have a husky that's this dramatic. I love that dog to pieces but my gosh. He's nowhere near 125lb. We have a 130lb GYP and I could only imagine if he was as needy and dramatic as the husky.

Oh, that reminds me of our incident last night with the doorbell.
DH was like "WTF is that on the doorbell video". So I turn it on and there is like a string or something. I watch it for a second and then there is what looks like a GIANT spider on the camera.
Turns out it was a millipede or something. But, there is your lesson folks - your video doorbell makes a bug look like godzilla

We avoided going down into the basement for about a month.

Dems really sounded like they did not want to do it via reconciliation so I foresee a kicking of the can down the road a bit.

I feel like there should be an upper age limit. Every so often there's talk of term limits but nothing ever happens How shocking that the people who can make this law are the people that would be essentially making their jobs more temporary. I wish there was a way to get a constitutional amendment question to the US citizens because I feel like it would pass that way.

I’m really sad about the oil spill, granted it’s local for me. The 13” slit in the pipe is likely from anchor, and based on the crazy backlog of cargo ships into San Pedro from and contributing to the supply chain problems, I would bet money in Vegas it is from one of those big cargo ships. There are so many ships, I can see them off the coast in South OC at night.

TW Update to earlier, it was a road rage incident and a person died . I was driving right there less than an hour before it happened. Sounds like the students were always safe luckily but I feel stressed about this.

It was full walk up, so you could stand in it and we used it for storage. So many invasive critters in old houses!
