THERE IS A BIRD IN MY KITCHEN I woke up to a bird in our bedroom once. It was terrible. I'm glad you got it out quickly.

I had a squirrel in my kitchen once. Scared the ever living shit out of me. You have my sympathies. Wildlife in your house is never fun. Not to turn this into wildlife anecdotes, but my cat chased an opossum into my house in grad school. A freaking opossum!! Oh that is just.....nope!

This is my worst nightmare MH took out the bin bags and I wiped down the powder room. He went upstairs and I came out of the powder room and saw a distinct shadow zip across the back wall of the house. I thought I was hallucinating but then it flew across the back end of the house and decided to hang out on the light fixture. I won't lie, I screamed for H. I was so afraid it was going to poo all over the house. I do not have time or energy for that. Omg. Nope nope nope My animals would have been going nuts and the neighbors would think I was being tortured or something. The ENTIRE neighborhood would know

It was announced that Ron DeSantis' wife Casey has breast cancer. They have 3 young children.
And of course, people's comments are so disgusting and rude.

dc2london I would have reacted the same. Birds are fine in their natural habitat but I don't like them and fuck no to them in my home. It reminded me of when I was at Glacier and one morning at breakfast we were chatting with a couple who woke up in the middle of the night because a BAT WAS ON THE WIFE'S FACE. I did a thorough investigation of our room (it was Many Glacier Hotel, historic so very very old) before I went to sleep that night.

Oh wow. I'm listening to The Daily and they're covering yesterday's hearing and had a little tidbit that didn't come up yesterday. Reportedly, Zuckerberg has a habit of closing meetings by pumping his fist in the air and saying, "Company over country!"

Not to turn this into wildlife anecdotes, but my cat chased an opossum into my house in grad school. A freaking opossum!! One of my childhood cats used to bring juvenile bunnies into the house. It happened 3 or 4 times. He never hurt them, just released them to hop around in the laundry room. He also made friends with a skunk in our backyard (and miraculously never got sprayed).

This is just awful 'Missouri has executed a man in a move that advocates say is unconstitutional because the death row inmate had intellectual disabilities. Ernest Lee Johnson, 61, was pronounced dead after a lethal injection at 6:11 p.m. Central time on Tuesday at a state prison in Bonne Terre, Mo., after Gov. Michael L. Parson (R) said Monday that he would not intervene and the U.S. Supreme Court denied a motion by Johnson’s attorney for a stay Tuesday. The Missouri Department of Corrections confirmed the execution and shared his final statement, in which he expressed remorse for murdering three people in 1994 and thanked those who supported him... The Vatican and two members of Congress from Missouri had urged Parson to grant clemency.' www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/10/05/ernest-lee-johnson-execution/

OMG.
Manchin is throwing down about the Hyde amendment during BBB negotiations and Hyde repeal isn't even in the bill!! It's completely separate legislation that probably doesn't even have the votes! What is this fool doing?

dc2london It made me sick to my stomach when I read about that. Admittedly, the death penalty is a hot button issue for me that I can get real heated about very quickly. But man, it is so disheartening that this is still America. Do we know if the Pope is normally ant-death penalty? Or is this unique? From my standpoint, it would follow that devout Christians following Jesus's teachings would be anti-death penalty. But of course in this world, that is not how it often is.

Disclaimer that I'm not catholic but it is my understanding that catholic doctrine is pro life in all cases. I.e. including death penalty. swellist, am I talking out of my ass here? I feel like I remember even the past two popes coming out against the death penalty and that it's a basic tenet.

The Catholic Church and doctrine are opposed to the Death Penalty. I believe I read the pope spoke about this particular case.

Hi! Hello! Yes! Catholic pro-life doctrine prohibits the death penalty with the same vigor that it does abortion and euthanasia. (“Creation of life to natural death.” is the tag line, “Womb to tomb” is pithier.) So it is not unusual that the Pope would vocally oppose. We’ve been decent on that for awhile. (Probably not since we stopped executing heretics, but for awhile.) There are some Catholic commentators who do not speak with any magisterial authority that try to justify it with aspects of just war theory? But they’re wrong and typically just kissing ass of the evangelical political right. Personally I am 100% anti-death penalty to the point that I’ve gotten into it with people here who really need me to know that “these crimes were different.” This is what I assumed, but I wasn't sure. It just seems that many (and this is a generalization, of course) Christian identifying people in the evangelical world tend to swing pro-death penalty but it struck me that the more "old school" (so to speak) viewpoint from a Catholic standpoint (in my very very limited understanding of Catholicism since I was raised Lutheran and currently don't identify with any particular branch but I do still have faith in Jesus's teachings) would be anti-death penalty. I am also 100% anti-death penalty. It may be hypocritical in some eyes since I'm pro-choice for abortion but I absolutely do not agree with any executions of criminals. I mean, am I sad when Ted Bundy types are executed? No. But I also don't celebrate or advocate for it.

TW:
There was a shooting just now a few blocks from my kids school. Not a school shooting. I got a news alert, but nothing yet from the school.
What should I do? Just wait...?
Our city has seen a rise in crime and sadly this is a daily occurrence now somewhere in the city.
Trying to not panic, quit my job, and homeschool.

We had a squirrel in our basement. DD walked up to me one day and said something about a cat in the basement and I laughed at her. And then I walked by the basement door hours later and definitely heard an animal noise and was like "shit DD was right."
We had a nice critter control man come out and trap it and take it far away.

I hope everyone is safe there in TX as well as that sounds terrifying.

i had a squirrel in the house once, that my cat brought in. It stayed with us for several days. The cats finally stopped hunting it and just became friends and shared their food. I finally caught it with my parents help and a big fishing net.

Thankfully not in the house, but we had a whole family of skunks get stuck in our window well. There was a mama and I think it was 5 or 6 babies in there. I had to call a company to come get them out. They asked if I considered it an emergency. I was like "what do you think?!"

orangebird2020, I'm sorry thats terrifying. <3 I'm surprised you havent gotten at least a text from the school. Can you call the district office rather than direct to the school you might be able to get thru to them rather than the school especially if they're in lock down. I HATE that we have to live this way.
