Who was talking about the Amazon toy catalog and how does one go about getting it? I'm trying not to be bitter that I never get sent one. My office catalog is indeed still on my desk so if you really want it, send me a PM.

My sons are asking to watch Squid Game and telling me all their classmates are talking about it. What is this?? I know Hunger Games was considered YA but is Squid Game 8 and 11 year old appropriate? Genuinely asking, I haven't watched it yet. I wouldn't let then watch HG yet. Based on the SNL sketch I'm thinking it's a hard no until like....15

I will preface this with the fact that i saw a time to kill in theaters and until age 8, silence of the lambs was my favorite movie. All that to say, all children are different. I would not be showing this to my 8 year old. But my 11 year old, it would depend on the kid. At 15 your child will have branched out well past the limitations of mom, i hope (whoever that mom might be). At 15 i was watching Korean and Japanese horror that nobody in my family would watch. But if HG isn't ok for you this sure as fuxk ain't.

But this show is very dark. And gory.

Omg you guys 😱 I know I’m highly sensitive but no way would I left any child watch Squid Game. It’s super violent and twisted! Like, I’m barely tolerating it. It is really good, but so so dark. I think it’s referenced in kid spheres because it’s about games and it’s visually appealing. DS told me there’s a Roblox game based on it. But blocky characters playing the game vs real life humans is hugely different IMO. I hope that’s where a lot of kids are hearing about it and not actually watching it. 😬 ETA oh ok at least willow’s with me 😅

But if HG isn't ok for you this sure as fuxk ain't. I agree with this completely. My 11 yr old asked us about it and we had no clue what it was about. My H and I decided to watch and no way is she ready to watch it. It's a good series but really violent. We are only 3 episodes in. It did surprise me that kids at her school were talking about it. In terms of overall media I think about the books I read when I was her age and some were scary/intense. I saw the original IT when I was 9 ish. I'm actually trying to encourage her to start the hunger games trilogy now but I think I'm going to hold off on Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children because the bad guys are a bit much.

Ok thanks, I thought I was being overly protective. I was going to say no either way because I'm not comfortable, for ME and for MY specific children seeing any of that. But the fact that they each brought it up independently and said their friends watched it made me wonder if I was an outlier.

I agree with others that it’s a well done show but it’s just so so dark. Not only people being killed but there is also suicide shown (like straight up showing it not moving the camera away) and a sex scene (no genitalia though), along with a few graphic surgery scenes.

I always like to check Common Sense Media - they actually say 16+ www.commonsensemedia.org/tv-reviews/squid-game

There was a headline in our local paper today that kids are playing squid game on the playground. I didn’t read the article but was surprised based on what I have heard about it. I haven’t and probably won’t watch it. I reserve my TV time for happy TV.

It’s far too dark for me to do multiple nights in a row. I need schitts creek rewatches and my greys to break it up.

Oh hard no. I don't want to watch Squid Game myself and I'm an adult, or so they tell me. Same. I can't do violent shows. If violent scenes come on TV, I cover my eyes and if it's relevant to the story, I get my husband to tell me the important parts. I'd let my 16 year and mayyyybe my (almost) 15 year old watch it, but hard no for the 9 yo.

Entering right in the middle of squid game talk (ftr I'm a no on <13)
Can anyone near Great Falls/Fairfax let me know how the foliage is looking? I'd love to take my kids out this weekend for a short hike and to see the colors but not sure if I still need to go further west for that.

I'm in MD south of DC, ideally would want to keep it less than 2hrs. It's not great. You have to get into elevation to really see color right now. Though I'm sure it would still be a good hike! I think Minerva was there pretty recently.

My guess is that they’re starting now. Everything is still extremely green in Ffx County.

I live near SNP and leaves are just starting to turn now, but still pretty green. A friend was just telling me that they enjoyed hiking in Harper's Ferry, so that could be a nice visit.
