Her description of the books didn't really do anything to sell them to me (I guess not my typical genre- but I'm open to new things), but if you all liked it I'd consider this one I'd consider it. I take it you'd all recommend it? I do, yeah. my gosh sorry for the typos. Yikes.

I actually just watched this show and was thinking about reading it. angelashly is it worth reading? Yes. It was such a good book I have not watched the show though I read the book first, then watched the show. I really enjoyed both.

I got my paperback of the SVH "A Night to Remember" (aka Jungle Prom) in the mail yesterday so that's what I'm reading.

Finished Apples Never Fall last night. I enjoyed it. It was everything I had been missing in Not a Happy Family. It was a bit long though. About to start The Forest of Vanishing Stars Ok I am glad you said this. I am interested in the book, but I think some of the chapters while short could have been taken out and I still would know what was happening. I am still only half way through and I just don't know how it still goes on for 200 more pages, but hopefully some good stuff starts happening.

I've got Matrix and Cloud Cuckoo Land on hold but they're a few weeks away. I'm excited to read them.

I just finished Golden Girl and I LOVED it. It may be my favorite of her novels. I teared up at the end.

I started House of Leaves last night- I am very intimidated. I also put aside a book I was in the middle of, but I wanted something good for spooky season.
I also just got the audio of Dave Grohl's new book and I'm super psyched he is reading it. It's awesome so far.

I finally read the first Shadow and Bone book. I feel very meh about it. If you’re willing to give the world another shot, the Six of Crows duology takes place in the same universe and is vastly superior to the original trilogy in my opinion.

I finished Local Woman Missing … I really liked it until the last 1/4 of the book and then it was just ok. 4 stars
I am starting The Husbands by Chandler Baker.

Has anyone here read The Shadow of the Wind? A friend of mine just mentioned it on Facebook and said it was one of her all time favorite books (it was on sale on Kindle yesterday which was why she posted). I added it to my list.

Ooh I read Shadow of the Wind years ago. I don’t remember much about it but I definitely have a lasting impression that I really liked it and I remember telling people to read it. I remember really just loving the writing, beautiful prose. I hope you like it.

I just finished Rock, Paper, Scissors and I really liked it. Very entertaining, kept the pages moving, some good twists!
Now I’m reading The Final Girls Support Group, which seems good for October! I’m a few chapters in and liking the pace.

Finished The Last Graduate (Naomi Novik) and The Hollow Places this week and really enjoyed both despite the former having a maddening cliffhanger ending. Damn those second books in a trilogy! Put a hold on more creepy books at the library, apparently I’m having a Halloween moment for the next bit.

So,, I am reading Bob Woodward’s trilogy on Trump. Currently on Fear, ordered Rage and the last is Peril.
His writing assumes you have some background on these people and how government works. I had to do some googling and keep lists of positions. People change positions so quickly.
If I was in college, I could write a very interesting paper on the themes of Trump’s presidency. I’ve only read thru the first nine months!

(I also agree that it was a very long book) I have been a lurker to this thread but have gotten so many good recommendations, thank you everyone! TJR was a new author for me and everyone's recommendation of Evelyn Hugo made me a big fan....I have now read 4 or 5 of hers so far. yellow711 I agree about Apples Never Fall. I really wanted to love it but even though the book was long the ending felt rushed. It also felt a little too implausible and tidy for me. Finally, {Spoiler} I thought how she fit Covid in at the end of the book was so strange- it was like she wrote it pre-pandemic and then her editors said "Oh, you need to add something about Covid in." If she was missing through most of Feb/early March 2020 and came back to people social distancing, how was it never mentioned through any of the searches or when the family was together?

I finished To Sir Phillip, with love (Eloise Bridgertons book) and it really fell flat for me. So much so that I’m not sure I want to finish the series

So much so that I’m not sure I want to finish the series This is definitely a low point in the series, but I think it's worth reading When He Was Wicked (Francesca's story) at least. That was actually my favorite of all of them.

They blended the plot lines right? Yes they basically threw the Six of Crows characters into the storyline from the first Shadow and Bone. I’m hoping now they can go back to their own corner of the universe and the actual Six of Crows plot line can take place in the next season.

I just caught up and put several books on hold on the library app. My September reads: The desperate Duchess series (bodice rippers are my current guilty pleasure reads) The invisible husband of Frick Island 3 stars It was ok. I didn't love it The Kiss Quotient 3.5 stars Cute romance book The bookish life of Nina Hill I enjoyed it 4 stars People We Meet on vacation Ok, but it annoyed me. 3 stars Happy and You Know it I liked it. It touched on the anxiety of motherhood 4 stars Come as you are. Non fiction I listened to on audio book. Interesting though a bit repetitive

I finally got The Only Good Indians back from the library and was able to finish it. I am not really a horror book person but I thought it was really good. It was a super smart social commentary too.

junch817,I am an outlier but I did not like Shadow of the Wind - I was bored for most of it and even the gorgeous writing couldn't save it for me. I am loving The Exorcist way more than I thought I would - I'm having a hard time putting it down.
