I finally read the first Shadow and Bone book. I feel very meh about it. I've started the final book in The Passage trilogy by Justin Cronin. I am also very meh on that—partly because it's been so long since I read the first two that I've forgotten a lot, and partly because MY GODS he needed to kill some darlings. I loved the third book but it took awhile for me to get into it. I also didn't remember everyone/thing but by the end it was fine.

I finished To Sir Phillip, with love (Eloise Bridgertons book) and it really fell flat for me. So much so that I’m not sure I want to finish the series This is definitely a low point in the series, but I think it's worth reading When He Was Wicked (Francesca's story) at least. That was actually my favorite of all of them. Agreed. Skip Gregory’s book. Hyacinth’s is worth reading. Lots of Lady Danbury in that one too.

so I downloaded The Obsession to my kindle to read while I am in the car line and such and now I am into that one more than Apples Never Fall and I have the print book at home so I may move to that tonight.

I finished Beautiful Country. Almost four stars. Some beautiful writing, but it fell a little flat for me. Break out some tissues for the ending though.

I've been in a rut again. Haven't read anything so far this month.
I have Meet Me in Paradise which is due back in 2 days so I'm going to see if I can get it finished in time.
I also just picked up No Exit from the library, I'm hoping it will be a good October read.
My BOTM books should be here today too so I'll hopefully be starting The Ex Hex soon.

Boy I've been in a reading slump for a WHILE. I don't think I read anything in September at all. But I'm hopeful that I can change it up in October because I LOVE reading horror & thrillers in the fall. I just started The Book of Accidents which is a haunted house one. I forgot who mentioned House of Leaves, but I've had that on my shelf for a while and just know that I need some big motivation to get into it so I've been putting it off.

I just finished The Last House on Needless Street. I almost gave up on it about halfway through, but I’m really glad I didn’t.
Next book is The Death of Jane Lawrence. I have a lot of horror/thriller lined up this month.

So I think I am going to give an audiobook a try. Can someone recommend a few good ones to start with? For instance, I heard Daisy Jones was a good audio, but I’ve already read that.

I’ve been listening to Apples Never Fall on audio and it’s an Australian narrator, so now I have random words coming out in an Australian accent. I’m like the Friends episode where Ross is phasing out his accent. So embarrassing 😂 🤦♀️

My Halloween themed nature books have arrived: Corvids! Weird adaptations! Spooky places! Now I have to decide which one to start with. Bird Brains Great Adaptations Ghostways
I’ll probably just pick the shortest one to get back into the reading groove.

I finished The Exorcist and I loved it! It was quite creepy, well paced and really well written. I can see why it has stayed a horror classic for 40+ years (and it didn't feel super dated when I read it) and I highly recommend it for anyone who likes horror.

I read In My Dreams I Hold a Knife. It was good. I would say 3.5 stars. I felt it dragged in some places but I was left guessing so the suspense piece was good.
I started The Library at Mount Char today and I’m not sure what to think. Right now it feels similar to a book I read last year called Under the Skin, which also had these weird murdery creatures. It is dragging a bit so I’m hoping it picks up.

I’m enjoying Party of Two.
I picked up some books at the library today:
The Lost Apothecary We Begin At the End The Perfect Couple In a Dark, Dark Wood
Just to add to my never ending TBR pile. 😂

Finished Meet Me in Paradise. It was a lot heavier than I was expecting. I gave it 3 stars. I wasn't a huge fan of the main characters and the ending was meh.
I'm now reading The Ex Hex. I'm just a couple of chapters in but it's fun so far.

mathrun, I finished Washington Black. I am not sure what to say about it. It was very well written, it was an interesting story with a protagonist that you will absolutely root for. It was also so unflinching in its description of the brutality of slavery in the West Indies. It was sad and harsh. But, I am glad I read it.

I had a bunch of holds come up from the library so I haven’t gotten to it yet, but your description confirmed its place at the top of my TBR. I think some topics (holocaust, slavery, colonization ) need to be addressed in that unflinching style, even in art. Otherwise a sugar coated style ends up normalizing talking about it as if it “wasn’t that bad” or “happened a long time ago”.

I actually took a two week break in the middle of the book, but knew I would finish it.

Is anyone watching One of Us is Lying? I loved the book but it's been a while since a read it so I don't remember the details. I've been looking forward to the show so hopefully it's good. I'm just starting it now.

I've heard great things about the audio for Born a Crime, which was already mentioned. I've read it, but not listened to it. I will get to it eventually. Recently I enjoyed Evelyn Hugo and Behold the Dreamers. If you try fiction and can't get into it, try nonfiction. I enjoy memoirs read by the authors. A exception to that was Me by Elton John. Taron Egerton did a great job.

Bird Brains: the intelligence of crows, ravens, magpies, and jays by Candace Savage was an underwhelming overview of the corvid family. I was hoping for something more in-depth. It felt like an extra long Nat Geo article. But at least the photographs were gorgeous!
