I just read an article about a playground just outside the Twin Cities where an arsonist (or arsonists) specifically burned down equipment meant for special education students. Like why are humans such disgusting garbage? That is what you do with your time? Burn down play equipment for children that have physical handicaps? Wow, good for you. You're a real badass. This happened to one by my work last year. It was heartbreaking. The community really stepped up to rebuild it.

Sheldon brings up Dr. Ford and the mishandling by the FBI of her complaint and how it ties into this.

So they seem to be talking about this now, but can Congress or someone investigate the USOC or USAG? Or who/how can that get done? Because specific to this, nothing will change or bring down USAG if nothing changes with the USOC. It doesn't seem like anyone knows who is or how to hold both organizations accountable.

I agree that there needs to be an investigation. I'm not sure what the answer to that is. USAG and USOC aren't government entities.

It's only been 2 weeks since the agent was fired? It's been 6 years!

I feel like some of the senators are missing some of the points. Like Nassar is just one piece of the puzzle. So many people are responsible. And Nassar wasn't the only one. USAG and the USOC absolutely perpetuated the culture. Steve Perry should be held accountable somehow. I don't know; I might not be making sense. My thoughts are very jumbled. Agree 100%. Unfortunately narrowing in on one "bad guy" and ignoring or downplaying the rest is such a standard operating procedure for so many.

BIG CARES, PROLIFE
another note, I'm really done with hearing Wray talking about the advocates. You can do MORE Chris.

Yep. He's like WE DID A THING! And it barely scratches the surface of what needs doing.

I guess I'm asking if there's any entity that can hold say the USOC accountable by forcing changes. Or is civil litigation and monetary damages seemingly the only option?

willow If you read of a Go Fund Me or something related to the playground, can you share? I wouldn’t mind throwing some dollars to help them get back.

other than setting up a govt oversight like Safe Sport thats independent of USOC/USAG and not accountable to them.
I really want DOJ to explain the non prosecution of the agents that literally LIED to the IG.

I'm sorry for dominating the weekly thread with all my questions as well.
Part of the reasoning for my questions is that I know a lot of the smaller gymnastics clubs really want to stop supporting USAG through club memberships and meets. However, since they are certified as the national governing body for the sport through USOC, clubs are stuck if they think they have any athletes who can compete on the national stage. If those big/medium clubs don't switch, it's much harder for small clubs who might be fine switching to AAU or one of the new national associations being formed if they don't have clubs close by to compete against. And knowing that USOC (at best) ignored the information, they have little reason to decertify USAG. So in some ways it feels futile because those organizations will just keep moving forward with little reason to actually change.
Sorry, that's more of a vent/rant than a question and probably way more information than anyone needed.

But also if DOJ makes clear that gym owners put trophies over kids at their own very serious legal peril, that would also help

So are the stupid Rs who wanted this recall election on the hook for any of the $276 million cost? Or is it all taxpayer $ down the drain?

Maybe, just maybe 2018, 2020, and the CA recall are evidence that Drmocrats are learning that they have to HAVE TO turn out to vote for democrats, even ones that don't excite you, because the other side will always turn out, no matter who is on the ballot.

I wonder if any other states will follow suit. Since the shortage is a national issue.

Crisis standard of care is imminent in my area. its already implemented up north.
And my governor is looking for ways to sue the Biden admin for the vaccine mandate.

The Karolyis being gone should be a good start...... Oh yeah there's a lot of work the sport needs to tackle. And not having USAG as the governing body won't fix those issues alone. It's just hard to hear all this again and then send in the $$ for club membership and athlete registrations and the organization continues business as usual. But that's not unique to this situation either.

Points for creativity! To me, it's an equity issue that hits students with disabilities and single parents who have to work outside of the home especially hard during a continuing pandemic so I'm in favor of it to fill a short-term gap. There may be downsides I'm not thinking of though.

Ohhhhhh no the drug pricing provision failed in HEC today. Ugh. Rumor has it that Pelosi plans to tack it on as an amendment but that assumes she will have the votes. This is good legislation and I not at all happy to see it possibly dead
