And I wish our school had found a way to keep the three teachers per grade instead of 2 for k-4. They averaged 8-9 kids a class and it was so great for the teachers and kids (they got a lot more individualized learning). And we didn’t have to split into cohorts to do it either. Wow you must have a tiny school! We have 8 K classes of 23 kids! That small class size is a dream.

I have been feeling so defeated this week. Like nothing we did mattered. DD will be going to school in an environment with very few masks. I fully expect Delta to just rip through. I have decided we will start masking up again around our parents. I don’t want to stop seeing them but this seems reasonable. Otherwise I’m nervous but just have to hope for the best. Me too. We started school this week. No masking mandates are permitted, and our school mask rate is low. Like 10% low. Mine wear kn94 masks, and we're doing what we can. It's so frustrating that everyone else is living like it's 2019.

Uuugggghhhhhhhh I just realized I'm back to time crunch 2 school Drop offs. Two schools several miles apart that start at the same time. Because we aren't comfortable putting the kids on the bus. NEAT.

From the WaPo article about the CDC slide deck:
'“I think the central issue is that vaccinated people are probably involved to a substantial extent in the transmission of delta,” Jeffrey Shaman, a Columbia University epidemiologist, wrote in an email after reviewing the CDC slides. “In some sense, vaccination is now about personal protection — protecting oneself against severe disease. Herd immunity is not relevant as we are seeing plenty of evidence of repeat and breakthrough infections.”
Ok, again, as parents of young children......WTF are we supposed to do?!

Well, with numbers going up in the US, I'm almost certain the DDs will have to quarantine when we get back (they can test out of it after 5 days). So I just rebooked our trip this morning to come back 6 days earlier than originally planned, giving us time to deal with quarantine while we're getting over jetlag and then we'll still have time to do some fun things with the DDs before school starts back up. If it does. ::sob:: Ugh, I'm really sorry

We got an email this morning from the school district saying they will be strongly recommending but not requiring masks at this time. I am very disappointed.

And let's couple that with the FDA delaying shots for kids under 12.

I just feel so defeated. At least last summer there was hope. We knew the vaccine was coming and had hope that this would eventually be over. Now it just feels completely hopeless. We have 3 vaccines and yet we are somehow worse off.
As a parent with young kids I'm terrified. How is it that things are worse going into this school year than last year? Last year we had mandatory masks and hybrid schedule so I felt nervous but okay with sending them to school. This year we have none of that and no virtual option so we just have to send them and pray for the best. This is so fucked.
And I feel like a crazy person because I literally do not know a single person besides my husband who is concerned about covid. I'm in a constant state of anxiety. How can we live like this? It's a nightmare. I honestly don't know how to do it anymore.

So it sounds like Pfizer has said that they still expect data for EUA for 5-11 by end of September:

Got depressing news at work today about increase in hospitalizations over the last few weeks and an increase in healthcare workers getting covid. Delta is bad and I’m pretty stressed about what this means for the fall. Trying to take deep breaths over here.

I know I said upthread I can’t imagine not seeing my parents but I almost feel like as a country we need to be locked down again but this time the govt provides the support that was missing under the previous admin. I don’t see how we are going to stop this at this rate otherwise.

All of the states with those staunchly anti-covid R Govs wouldn't do it.

Cuomo has definitely got himself in a pickle surrounding covid, so big nope to NYS letting him have emergency powers again. Sob.

Same here that I think this board is in tune with Delta increased risks, but no one in the real world reads the news. I don't know how the message to mask indoors is getting to the general public. Or what other options are there to make anything better.
My husband likely wouldn't know about anything either. His family is trying to live in la la land to feel better about get togethers.
I declined the two in September as soon as they mentioned them and I am taking a tougher stance going forward. School in person is priority and we live in the largest city in the state so we pose the biggest risk to grandparents.

Yes, and something that I think needs to be stressed in light of the CDC delta coverage.

Yes, I keep reminding myself that breakthrough infections are still pretty rare. It only helps so much but it does help.

I went grocery shopping today and did see an uptick in masking. but it was like 30% instead of the 10% last week. Not nearly enough. And we're in a substantial infection region.

Running errands today and one of the stores is requiring masks again, even though there's no mandate. Like, stopped people at the door and told them they couldn't come in without a mask, regardless of vaccination status. I did notice they had big tall dudes at the doors, though, which is smart, but also sad that it's necessary.

I thought Biden’s vaccination speech today was good. Too bad a public health emergency was made political and it will fall on deaf ears. The reporters shouting dumb questions at the end were annoying too. I couldn’t see his face but it sounded like Doocey trying to get a gotcha moment asking about why they said in May no more masks and now we need them again, even though it’s been said everywhere that it’s because Delta’s a different ballgame. Someone said it's like riding a plane. During takeoff, the pilot tells you to keep your seatbelt on. Once it looks safe, they tell you you can move about the cabin, but it's probably a good idea to keep your seatbelt on while you're seated anyway. If the flight encounters turbulence, the pilot will tell you it's no longer safe to be out of your seat without a restraint and ask you to put your seatbelt back on.. That doesn't mean that the seatbelt doesn't work or that the turbulence is fake, it means that safety measures are implemented as appropriate given the current conditions. FAKE NEWS!!! TURBULENCE IS GOVT MADE!!!!
