My trumper anti CV vax Jesus thumping coworker is positive for covid after having been on vacation in TX. Cool cool. Edit: she was in Florida at WDW. and don’t worry guys, she cancelled her monoclonal antibody treatment because it “didn’t sit right with her soul” and she’s focusing on more natural ways to fight this virus. Like lots of smoothies and juices with orange, tumeric, ginger, etc. Luckily she has no sense of taste so she’s putting in everything everyone tells her and she can still drink it!

Illinois governor requires masks at state facilities regardless of vaccination status. I think the DMV announced that for their facilities yesterday. My county advises mask wearing regardless of status, but no requirement yet that I've seen. News stories I've seen about public school districts (and we have a million) seem to shows parents at odds over masking, regardless of IDPH guidance. 'The governor’s office announced Thursday that masks are now required in all Illinois state facilities.' link

And she shared a video of how the govt is making fake rain and she swears she did the test to check and it was true!!!!

Because no one in the history of ever could possibly ovulate early or late. And if the government is making fake rain they need to send it over to the west coast please and thank you. Smallish amounts (no mudslides) and more frequently. I'm over being in the midst of an historic drought.

We have a crazy Trumper running for our BOE too. It’s scary. (There’s a photo of him on his profile from Jan 6.) Our town is mostly blue and the 3 incumbents are also running for the 3 spots, so I don’t think he has much of a chance, but still. (And I’m not a huge fan of some of the incumbents but I’ll definitely vote for them over this guy.) Has someone reported him to the police? If there’s photo documentation of him at the riot, he should be charged just like all the other dumbasses. Not sure. The photo is of him outside the Capitol in the crowd but in the photo he is only smiling for the camera with some other people. I don't know if they could go after him unless there was photographic evidence of a crime? (e.g., entering the Capitol, assaulting police, etc.)

Welp...this makes me feel great: www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/07/29/cdc-mask-guidance/"‘The war has changed’: Internal CDC document urges new messaging, warns delta infections likely more severe" "The internal presentation shows that the agency thinks it is struggling to communicate on vaccine efficacy amid increased breakthrough infections" The CDC is having communication issues with the public...I'm shocked!

"You can get pregnant literally anytime during your cycle because I know someone who got pregnant on CD 28" is great proof that we need better sex Ed in this country Quoting myself to add that I'm not picking on women who weren't taught how their bodies work. If your parents told you the stork brought you, obviously it's not your fault that you don't know the ins and outs of the luteal phase. And I know that seeking out that information comes with complicated feelings and even shame/criticism. My beef is with the adults who fail to teach adolescents and teens about the human body, not with the people who have been failed.

So our school board president just said that he doesn't think kids should wear masks in September and that government and politics shouldn't overrule parents.
I hate my town sometimes.

We need a state mandate for schools, stat. We need to protect our kids. I know you all agree.

Here is part of the email we got yesterday from our shiny new superintendent
Recently, the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics released guidance for returning to school, stating teachers and students should wear masks inside classrooms, regardless of whether they are fully vaccinated or not. The recently released guidelines do not change our existing plan of not requiring, only recommending masks to be worn by teachers, staff, and students. If a change is necessary, because of new guidance or data, we will be sure to make such changes public.

addymac It must be a huge test of patience to have a fellow nurse that says stuff like that, especially when you work with such a vulnerable population. I have one relative in nursing school and they’ve acted like Covid wasn’t a big deal all this time and another one who is a nurse but anti-vax. It seems like an odd profession to pursue for people who don’t seem to believe in basic health stuff. It’s not very comforting to think about those types of people being involved in somebody’s healthcare.

I thought Biden’s vaccination speech today was good. Too bad a public health emergency was made political and it will fall on deaf ears.
The reporters shouting dumb questions at the end were annoying too. I couldn’t see his face but it sounded like Doocey trying to get a gotcha moment asking about why they said in May no more masks and now we need them again, even though it’s been said everywhere that it’s because Delta’s a different ballgame.

I had a consult for an ablation the other day, and he tried to tell me I must ovulate on day 9 or 10 with my short cycles… uh, no, I just have a 10 day LP when I’m lucky. This was with a guy who has been doing OBGYN for 20 years 🤨

Well, with numbers going up in the US, I'm almost certain the DDs will have to quarantine when we get back (they can test out of it after 5 days). So I just rebooked our trip this morning to come back 6 days earlier than originally planned, giving us time to deal with quarantine while we're getting over jetlag and then we'll still have time to do some fun things with the DDs before school starts back up. If it does. ::sob::

Someone said it's like riding a plane. During takeoff, the pilot tells you to keep your seatbelt on. Once it looks safe, they tell you you can move about the cabin, but it's probably a good idea to keep your seatbelt on while you're seated anyway. If the flight encounters turbulence, the pilot will tell you it's no longer safe to be out of your seat without a restraint and ask you to put your seatbelt back on.. That doesn't mean that the seatbelt doesn't work or that the turbulence is fake, it means that safety measures are implemented as appropriate given the current conditions.

I'm getting so nervous for school, and I feel bad since my girls will likely have mandatory masking inside when a lot of you aren't getting that protection, but space is an issue and they are packed into classrooms/if this thing is more contagious than chicken pox. Will masks be enough since they'll still take them off to all eat together? Also starting to worry about when we'll be able to see family again, if the older population is at increased risk with delta despite vaccination (WaPo said that in the CDC article). I don't feel safe (I know, always relative) anymore. We are tentatively supposed to drive out to KY in October to bury my grandmother, but I don't know what the vax rates are like of the extended family out there. Though if things get really bad, my parents will probably delay. Aye. Trying to bury the feelings of panic.

DD will be going to school in an environment with very few masks. I fully expect Delta to just rip through. I have decided we will start masking up again around our parents. I don’t want to stop seeing them but this seems reasonable. Otherwise I’m nervous but just have to hope for the best.

I can’t let my mind go back to not seeing my parents/grandmas. The difference in my kids was so noticeable last year. I seriously think the 8 year old was on the edge of being depressed. It was the longest I had gone without seeing my parents last spring in my entire life and I struggled as an adult so I can’t imagine how it was for my kids.

And I wish our school had found a way to keep the three teachers per grade instead of 2 for k-4. They averaged 8-9 kids a class and it was so great for the teachers and kids (they got a lot more individualized learning). And we didn’t have to split into cohorts to do it either.

I’m catching up since vacation.
My coworker sent me a link that LA schools are requiring masks, so that is good.
FYI I know there are others with Hawaii plans and I felt very safe while there. The state requires masks indoor everywhere as of may, whether vaxed or not and everyone was complying. Lines were insane at several places to ensure low capacities (ie to get a dole whip). Overall a good trip, but difficult with a 3 yo in general. Covid protocol wasn’t the problem, he was! 🤣
