The friends we were hanging with last night - everyone talked about something coming up that they had planned that they were now reevaluating because of delta and the case rises. One friend has a girls trip coming up and found out two of the people are not vaccinated so now she is probably not going. Another was researching (she’s a scientist) getting her 10 year old vaxed because she’s in the weight range of a 12 year old. Based on her research she is not going to but she considered it before traveling. This all sucks so bad for those of us who did all the right things.

I am so nervous for school starting next week. Mask mandates cannot be put into place - thanks Gov. Ducey. So we mask, even though DH and I are vaccinated. Our girls both receive services through the school which are key to their learning. At back to school night only about 10% of the people there had masks. I don't know what else to do. It's so frustrating how selfish people are acting.

The same # of cases is disheartening. But half the # of hospitalizations is a good thing. I know I was ranting earlier this week so I’m trying to be a little more positive. 😇 But also I had multiple dreams last night about forgetting to wear my mask in a store. 😩

It feels like all the sadness of last year with a big serving of anger due to this being preventable this time around.

I’ve been mourning my feelings of relief when I and my loved ones got vaccinated earlier this year. I wish I still felt that way instead of worried about all the unknowns again.

We bought tickets for a concert in the park for next weekend, but now we're not going. Epidemiologists are now saying the contagiousness of the Delta variant has thrown the "outdoor gatherings are safe" right out the window and we just don't feel comfortable taking the girls. I'm angry and disappointed.

I feel like delta is “hold my beer”

I feel like delta is “hold my beer” Yes. We are visiting my family this week and will be scaling down our planned activities. I’m comfortable with our camping activities, but we had hoped to go to some of the NYS Capital Region museums and also do indoor dining and movie date nights. That’s definitely not happening and we will also scale back visits to extended family and friends with kids to be outdoors in smaller groups.

Samples are back at Costco 😳 Was there yesterday and everything was single serve packs or placed in those paper bag envelope things. Though the eating area was back open at ours, which I was disappointed to see absolutely filled.

I just pulled her for August. I was ok with the risk when everyone was masked but nope to no masks and kids climbing everywhere.

Our Costco has had samples back for at least a month. And limited tables and seating for the food court. I just shudder and walk past quickly.
I’m trying to remind myself that our end of august trip is a month away and maybe things will change by then and I can feel more comfortable taking DS to my parents house in Florida. Ugh.

Oh no it was totally back to little Tortellini in ketchup cups all lined up next to each other on a tray.

I hadn't seen that about outdoors. To be fair it's not definitive yet, only that the advice was not to risk it with the unvaccinated. Ugh. Did you take this to mean outdoor playdates too (like with 1 other family) ? It's basically the only thing my kids are doing as far as socializing right now. I have to specify outside, and I feel weird about it. Like other people around don't blink an eye at doing things inside, and I'm very uncomfortable with that except with my son's sitter's kids because they don't go anywhere or hang out with others either. So combined with already feeling like we're doing the most by requesting outside activities, I cannot imagine suggesting that kids mask outside too. And it's so hot and humid that it's really uncomfortable.

I am highly skeptical of what a Russian born writer for the NY Post and DC Examiner is saying with absolutely zero evidence Eta her birthplace is irrelevant. I don't trust those publications at all.

Oh another thing that came up last night was a family that had invited their daughters friend on an upcoming vacation and then found out the teen and her whole family is unvaccinated. Ugh. So much discussion. Number one - it came up really off handed and we all wondered don’t the unvaccinated have a responsibility to tell us? Why is it on the vaccinated to ask? And some in the group felt that the friend should be uninvited. Some did not. I hate this place of tough decisions.

Especially those of whom you don't know the vax status of their other family members. But that's me. I've been on the very cautious end of things this whole time, probably more than strictly necessary but it's where I find my comfort level.

I feel like Democrats are going to get crushed in the off-years and midterms for trying to keep people healthy I’m worried about this too. And I’m worried that some Dems won’t enact safety measures or mandates for fear of how it will affect their re-election. In CO our Dem governor was doing a pretty good job with the handling of the pandemic. Then he suddenly had a huge shift during his press conferences and with his approach to things. Instead of being direct when reporters questioned his loosening of restrictions he would give a bunch of stereotypical politician non answers where he’d talk but not address the questions. Now he’s saying he won’t reinstate any mask mandates unless hospitals are at capacity. It’s been such an abrupt shift from how he was earlier in the pandemic that the only reasoning I could see would be he’s starting to worry about reelection.

Even on his 1:1 play date with another kid from his school. They are used to it and don’t blink an eye. And it’s so humid here lately.

I feel like we have already started to see this in NJ, IL, and VA. And in MD too even though Hogan is technically a Republican.
