I asked at work if - once we go back to a flexible work environment in September - if they could share a date that the flexible policy would be through. Like end of the calendar year? School year? So I kind of have an idea in the back of my head.
They said that -barring a change in leadership- there is no end date. We're going to be a flexible work environment, period. I feel like I hit the jackpot. A couple days in the office per week and a couple days at home is my ideal situation.

I was just going to say that I don't think he can mandate it since the emergency authority is over. We've heard diddly squat from our district but they suck at communication. My kids will be wearing Happy Masks indoors no matter what. Right now our district is saying no masks required but just encouraged for fall, but that this is subject to change. So I am hoping the "subject to change" part will ACTUALLY change. I will be sending mine with a mask as well, especially since he has to wear it on the bus anyway, but I am worried about compliance once they get into school. Our last update was that they're planning full-day, 5-day-a-week in-person for everyone. High school will have an online school option. Pre-K is in-person only since it's optional and we'll let you know about a virtual K-8 option later! Nothing about masks.

This is true in our house. DH and I have had it bad. The girls just had minor runny noses. And no, it's not covid. All of us are masked indoors at all times in public. DD2 had it first.

Our high schools will have online options as well that existed before the pandemic but not whatever it was for pandemic reasons. No virtual schooling will be offered otherwise though.

During a Senate hearing this week Walensky did clarify this a tiny bit saying that they have cohorts of vaccinated people in various locations and professions that they are routinely testing to monitor for breakthrough infections. Just to be totally clear. Right, but that info isn’t available to the public is it? That was my understanding. I don't think so, but IDK for sure

I'm right there with you, willow. Ever since the stupid Michigan GQP rescinded Whitmer's emergency powers, I've been terrified of the lack of compliance to even health department orders. Too many people that just don't give a damn about the strain and worry on parents/ kids are in local control here. Makes me want to vomit. That was so utterly stupid. Remove the carrot AND the stick with 40% of your population vaccinated. Smart!

Well, Kay Ivey of Alabama is tired - even if I think she could go further. That said, I think our governor will have a heck of a time winning reelection because of his stances on shutdowns and masks, and that's even with probably weak Republican opponents. Most of of the school districts in my county appear to be trying to deal with parents vehemently on both sides of masking - and my county went blue (barely) last time. link

Feds exercising clause in Pfizer contract to purchase more vaccines excerpt The federal government is exercising a clause in its contract with Pfizer to buy 200 million more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, including for children under 12 if and when the Food and Drug Administration gives the green light and to prepare for the possibility of booster shots, according to an administration official familiar with the contract. link

PDQ and please, no tags. LT is fine, even though this is completely overwhelming.
My Uncle died today. I was with my dad when he found out.

greykitty, I worry about our governor race next year too. Pritzker is really unpopular in my area, and the crazy candidate is gaining traction. It's infuriating.

Yeah - I think the collar counties are going to be iffy at best, and even Chicago might not be counted on that much. To me, crime, schools, and the economy are going to be key drivers, and Dems are just not always very good at messaging. Let's throw in increased taxes while we at it - although I wish they'd get the SALT deduction back in that was ripped away from a lot of the 'rich blue states'. Helped way too many regular people and sadly Trump didn't get tagged as much as he should have for its loss. I'm thinking Lightfoot might be one and done. And I liked her when she first came in, and she had that historic win. I think she's vulnerable now. Of course, a lot can change between now and then, but I'm not overly confident.
