Is it their age that makes them non eligible for the monoclonal antibodies? I think it’s age and health status. Per the FDA emergency use approval it’s for patients that are at risk of developing severe covid.

The entire pandemic in a nutshell, honestly. Having a strong response at the beginning would have only benefited him. Instead he chose fear and xenophobia. I said almost the exact same thing over a year ago. He could have been seen as a hero, and maybe ::shudder:: won the election. And now, a large portion of the people who voted for him won't get the vaccine and could possibly die from something he could have pushed from the beginning. Long term planning doesn't seem to be his strong suit. The fact that he likely would have won reelection if he hadn't so entirely and obviously mishandled covid both infuriates and haunts me.

Healthy 20 and 30 year olds that will now need LUNG TRANSPLANTS. This is so sad. Catastrophic for so many and tragic for others. I pray for their loved ones.

Maybe they need to reevaluate when they vsn use those antibodies with the change of demographics of patients ages.

I think it’s tricky because my understanding is there is not unlimited supply of this treatment. So it’s reserved for those within 10 days of a positive test that may die from covid. The younger people are not considered severe in the same way (acute) but long term they may need lung transplants for ongoing issues. But, yes, now that the patient population has changed, protocols likely need to be reevaluated. It is emergency use approved for 12+.

The SF Bar Owner Alliance is thinking of requiring proof of vaccination before entry. The head of the group had this to say:
"I also think that, for some reason, the government everywhere — from the feds to the state to the locals — have been so nice to people who won't get vaccines and I think that needs to stop," Bleiman continued. "We need to start playing hardball with them, they're a bunch of a—holes, and you can quote me on that. And I'm not talking about the people who can't get [the vaccine], I'm talking to the people who can and choose not to. They're selfish and they're ignorant and they're putting us all in jeopardy and making it harder for all of us to recover from this. And we need to stop treating them like they just don't have the right information. The information is right there, it doesn't lie. And they need to stop thinking that they know more than the scientific experts."

H's BFF is travelling up to our area from Texas in a few weeks with his family and wants to meet up. H wants to have them over but they aren't vaxxed. I'm not crazy about the idea.
I guess I'll have to be the bad guy. They had covid too. Why wouldn't they get vaxxed?

Her laughing like that makes me feel ill. I considered a spoiler for it because it is so detached and sadistic. I’m not even sure why the press are giving her this kind of attention, and am not sure if I care.

Per the FDA emergency use approval it’s for patients that are at risk of developing severe covid. Interesting. My 40 YO vaccinated friend got COVID from his preschooler and received monoclonal antibody treatment. He said his BMI (he is a tall/big guy but I wouldn't describe him as overweight) put him at higher risk but he is otherwise healthy and doesn't have any other comorbidities and he barely had any symptoms. I was surprised but I figured there must not be supply issues anymore.

In the responses to that thread someone asked and she said it was because it's only approved for use before hospitalization because that's when it can work, so if you go to a dinner party on Thursday and are in the hospital on Sunday, that's not much of a window to get them before it's too late.

This article seemed to provide a little more context around that Abbo quote, and why some treatments aren't being administered to the younger patients. This article does not mention lung transplants, though. www.miamiherald.com/news/health-care/article252905463.html... Migoya said young and healthy patients can’t be treated with some of the newer COVID therapies developed since the pandemic began, such as monoclonal antibodies, because those medications are reserved for high-risk patients who are obese, pregnant or diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, diabetes or other medical conditions. ...

I got an email from our school district last night saying that OC department of education is following the CA masking guidance and that local school districts DO NOT have jurisdiction over mask mandates.
I’m very much impressed that OC is taking that stance. Now I know the enforcement may vary at each school, but I’m relieved that most kids should be wearing them in 3 weeks when DD starts K.
