lemondrop - that's a bummer. I was hoping they'd have theirs released at close to the same time to make sure everyone who wants their kids vaxxed can get them vaxxed without too much of a supply issue/delay. PDQ: poof

Multiple people on my Nextdoor are on the “masks are dangerous for kids” train again as well, and I just have no idea where it’s coming from.

I feel like we have time traveled back to a year ago. I feel like we've traveled back to a year ago, except worse. At least back then there was the little bit of comfort from mask mandates and Covid precautions so my kids had a tiny bit of protection from the pro-pandemic crowd. Now there's not even that. I'll quote myself and say that I know things aren't actually worse now than a year ago. At least now we have better people in charge, vaccines for adults, and vaccines for kids coming soon. I'm just so disheartened that in the US we've been lucky enough to have vaccines available this soon and that we're so close to the light at the end of the tunnel, yet it feels like we're backsliding because people refuse to do the right thing and now we're racing the variants.

I don’t even care if I have to set an alarm for grabbing the soonest appt available again for my almost 5 yo in order to get it ASAP.

I’m feeling pretty relieved. H was invited to Vegas this past weekend to see the UFC fight. He originally was going to go, but I was not happy about it. Number 1 concern- I could literally have this baby any minute. Number 2 concern- Covid. H realized pretty quickly that he also didn’t feel comfortable with it, mainly because of the baby.
Well, baby is still inside. But, the guy that organized the trip just tested positive for covid (via rapid antigen test). And a couple others are having symptoms. Everyone was vaccinated, so there is a solid chance it’s the delta variant.
I just… I’m really glad he didn’t go. Fuck, man. Everyone that went has kids, too. 😞

Same, though I wasn't expecting his age group until like Nov/Dec. Definitely going to have to talk about BIL's wedding, and I'm not feeling great about the travel we just did. PDQ:. Wow. This took my breath away. DS is in the second group and how amazing would that be. I wish it were for august or early sept but whatever. I’ll take it on day one of release please.

In addition to that, all of their flights on Friday to get to Vegas were cancelled because the tarmac was too hot for the planes. So they ended up having to drive and getting stuck in bad traffic. So then we were like, thank goodness you didn’t go, what if I went into labor and you couldn’t get a flight out?
So many reasons I’m glad he didn’t go.

I missed lemondrop’s posts. Can someone message me the estimated timeline for kids aged 8+? My boys are 8 and 11. This is the one time I’m very glad school in MN doesn’t start until after Labor Day. I’m hoping they can at least get 1 vaccine in before back to school. I also do not think there will be a supply issue. When 12+ was approved, it was fully open, no appointments needed. All DD’s friends were vaccinated that same week.

I see the largest nurses union is asking for reinstatement of mask mandates based on Delta.

A couple of weeks is very doable. Every day I google kids Covid vaccine approval update and I get nothing. Then I come here and hope you have good news to share, lol. School starts in a month. I keep hoping we will get at least dose one in before but I just don't think that will happen. PDQ: poof
Gosh dangit, I missed it. ATM we're still planning on flying back to the US from mid-August to early Sept, and I have got every single finger and toe crossed that we'll be able to get the kids their 1st dose while we're there bc the EU will probably be a ways behind the US on this again. Is that realistic, lemondrop, or am I just going to have to give up that dream and hope for a winter vax for the kids here in the EU?
I'm also worried that if cases increase too much in the US, Germany's going to implement quarantine regulations for anyone coming back again. If that's the case, I doubt we'll be able to go with the kids. We can't come back after a 3-week vacation and then trap them in the house for 2 weeks. They'll miss some important things.

This is essentially what happened in Illinois. On Friday, they said masks for all unvaccinated. By Saturday, they rolled back and said, that that's their recommendation, but local school board has control. Districts near me are announcing left and right that masks are optional.

lemondrop, thank you! Mine are between 5-10, so for us personally the under 5 news is not relevant, but still not looking good for the time we'll be in the States. Ah well. Right now with the delta variant on the rise, who knows whether we'll go at all. Le sigh.

thatgolfb that is crazy and good that he decided not to go. Was everyone in the group truly vaccinated? It seems contradictory to what we have been told about the vaccines still holding up 85% or whatever it is against Delta. The fact that ALL of them got infected is terrifying and also makes me question.

The fact that ALL of them got infected is terrifying and also makes me question. I keep seeing stories like this that give me pause. We know some vaccinated people are bound to get infected since no vaccine has 100% efficacy. But I've seen a few stories of multiple vaccinated people from the same team, family, or group getting it that make me question things a bit. What are the odds of multiple people in the same group being a part of that small percentage of breakthroughs?
