I don't think there will really ever be shut downs again and I don't think there should be. Maybe limiting big stuff but at this point I think they need to just focus on mask mandates and vaccine mandates.
Edit: if the government provided support I would totally support it but that's not happening. It would be nice but alas.

enchanted I have had the same thoughts. We don't have to travel, but it still makes me nervous. The holidays will already be different. My aunt usually hosts Thanksgiving, but last year my uncle passed away so I don't think that she could handle it. And for Christmas, my mom always has a huge Christmas eve dinner for family and friends (50+people) and she already said that she can't physically do it anymore.

Does she have a huge house?

Am I the only one that would be ok not having the big family gathering for the holidays this year? Last year doing the holidays with just my immediate family was wonderful. 😬
I do want to have my aunt over this year since she’s alone now but I don’t see that being an issue as one person can just quarantine etc.
Idk. Family stuff sucks for me right now. Maybe contributes to why we are considering leaving the country.

Ob/gyn organizations recommend vaccination for those pregnant: Two leading organizations that represent obstetricians and gynecologists recommended Friday that anyone who is pregnant should be vaccinated against Covid-19. link

I've been panicking a bit about Delta since yesterday's news, but this thread made me feel better about the data. *I don't know much about this Twitter person but their data seems to line up with some of the other expert takes, and explains it much better than the confusing AF wapo article I read yesterday.

I work for a Fortune 500 company that started allowing employees back on campus on a strictly voluntary basis in June. InJuly they announced that masks were no longer required if you are vaccinated. Today they reversed and are requiring masks for everyone again. They also moved the earliest date they will allow managers to require any one to return to campus from Sept 1 to October 1.
In the meantime I talked with my 8 year old’s principal about options since the district came out the day before the CDC announcement saying that masks will be recommended but not required for unvaccinated. All other things will be business and usual. She basically said sorry, shruggie guy, my hands are tied. I can let him eat lunch in the teachers lounge instead of the lunchroom with everyone else. Or you could homeschool. No virtual option. This is a large, pretty rich school district. 😡 Apparently she has been getting a lot of calls in from upset parents in both directions though. 🤞 they change their minds before school starts in a week and a half.

I have seen more masks at work the last few days. Both customers and partners. I'm glad to see it.

We usually host Christmas night for my parents and H's family. But this year, we stayed in our pj's, watched TV, played with gifts and ate snacks all day long.

And then it kind of got extended to my parents friends who didn't have any family or plans on Christmas eve. But it is ALOT of work. And it gets late at night. So I am sad about the tradition ending.

Edit: if the government provided support I would totally support it but that's not happening. It would be nice but alas. Mask mandates would go a long way to slowing Delta down. In areas with high levels of vaccination, they could probably pull r down below 1 so that Delta would be locally suppressed. There is no way the government would do another shutdown and I don’t really think there needs to be one in many areas since vaccinated people are still low risk for infection and very low risk for bad outcomes. But universal masking is such a small ask - basically the least we could all do. It’s so frustrating to see people and politicians fighting against it.

My parents had the news on and they were talking about rising cases and vaccinations stalling out. There was some county fair in MO where they had a two day pop up vaccine clinic and not a single person stopped and got a vaccine. Literally NO ONE.
Just, oh my gosh, guys.
I want to wrap my entire self into a mask and hide.
