Hi ladies! Just made an appointment for my consultation with an RE, I've been lurking around and thought I'd intro over here.
**TW - loss & LC **
I was on TB for years while TTA & TTC, then joined a BMB on TCF, and now I'm here. Had a loss in July of 2014, then a BFP in January and DS was born Sept '15.
**end TW**
This is cycle 11. I know that I O, and most things seem fine, but I have a few concerns and know there could be something going on that is symptomless. Anyway, just read through the packet from the RE's office (appointment is Aug 7th) and curious if anyone can give me some insight as to what to expect at the consultation? The packet says there will most likely be a trans-vag u/s...so that's fun.

Hi charliefox. I'm sorry to see you over here, but I'm so glad that you found us. My consult happened on CD3, so they did a vag cam US to reconfirm my PCOS. We talked with the RE. She asked us questions, and we asked her questions. She laid out our game plan, which included blood work for me and a SA for my H. I knew he would need a SA, and I talked to him ahead of time about it. We made sure that he did not ejaculate for 3 days prior so he could do it the day of our consult. When he did his SA, I assumed there would be porn provided or something like that, bit there wasn't. Bring your own if there is a chance he will need to do a SA (most likely he will). Our situation is a little different since we live so far away from our RE (1.5 hours on a good day with no snow - we drove 3 hours one way the day of our consult), so we have only been to her office once. We have also had 1 follow up phone call with the PA. If you live closer to your RE, then I'm sure you'll have regular follow up visits there. Write down any questions you may have. Don't be afraid to ask the RE anything, especially about why they want whatever labs or why the game plan is x. Sometimes you have to be your own advocate. Good luck at your appointment! ***grad warning***
Our consult went over our medical history with a focus on my irregular cycles, I was not CD3 but he did a T/V ultrasound to look at my ovaries as we both suspected PCOS. The procedure is quick and painless (less than a pap smear) but I admit it was pretty embarrassing the first few times, especially my first few CD3 scans.
The ultrasound confirmed my PCOS and he ordered blood work and semen analysis. I did the blood work in the office that day but DH had to schedule an appointment for the SA.
If you have been charting take your charts, the RE might find that helpful. Write down some of your suspicions/symptoms if you have any so you don't forget something while you are in the office.
Good luck!

orangehibiscus, good to know about the SA. Our appointment should be right around O so it might not be possible - but if I O on the early side I'll make sure H is ready. aprilz81, I've had many a vag-cam in my day so no biggie but thanks for the warning! I'll also be sure to print out my charts from the last year.

My initial RE consult lasted maybe 60-90 minutes and we spent most of that time talking about family history (mine and my H's) as well as personal medical history and my cycles. Then we talked a bit about IUI and IVF and what our options might be depending on test results. I didn't end up doing any blood work or ultrasounds that day. I called on my next CD 1 to schedule a CD 3 appointment as well as my HSG and H's SA.

Same as everyone says. I did my blood work on CD3, which was another day. H did SA on another day as well. We did an ultrasound that first day and talked about our options.

I've been to two different REs and for the initial appointment we just went over our history. As PP mentioned, they may give you an internal ultrasound.
Good luck!

Like the pp have said, we just reviewed our history, any testing that needed to be done and when, and what our step from there would be depending on test results. I've never had an appt close to CD 3 but had I, then I would have likely had an ultrasound. I've always had to go back later for that. We have also had a quick consult with a financial person or at least discussed it with a nurse so that we had an idea of our costs as well.
Good luck!
