I think she goes to Canada and testifies against the Waterford’s. Fuck I hope so. I want her to reunite with Luke and baby Nicole. And I hate that she let her keep the name Nicole. I want her to have her moms name like she originally had named her.

I feel like earlier seasons her being away from Hannah hit harder. Now we’re just like “get out, June!”, but mannnn I get nauseated thinking about being separated from my kids. Leaving them behind would feel so wrong. I understand why it’s better to go and take down Gilead from afar, but that feeling doesn’t go away.
I’m always pregnant or nursing when new seasons start. So many hormones.

I think part of what is different now that really highlights why June needs to get out is 1) she's not even near Hannah anymore, they used to be within walking distance now she's already geographically separated. 2) She has no clue how the world outside of Gilead works, who might help her, who is dangerous. I couldn't believe when she was just going to walk up to some random group knowing nothing about them. I'd want to do some recon from a distance for a bit, see if it looks safe. And why would the Nighthawks (or whatever they were called) be more likely than the Canadian troops to help her rescue Hannah?
At this point with going to Chicago she's already left.

I kept thinking about how she outed the handmaids hiding to protect Hannah and Janine saying she wouldn’t have done that. I just couldn’t decide what I would have done. Send my friends back to being raped just to ensure my kid wouldn’t get hurt. It’s an awful position but I think as a mother I get it. I wouldn’t want to bank on the hope that they wouldn’t actually hurt my kid. The idea of seeing Noah be scared of me is so sad.
I literally gasped when the help turned out to be Moira. Like I full on gasped and clutched my chest. And felt like crying.
I also found the trailer for next week and will punch June in the face if she stays behind.

I haven’t been into this thread because we have yet to start season 4, but we just caught up with season 3 and it was soo good. I’m ready. I will be back in... probably a couple weeks.

Wow, E5 went fast for me! Ready for it! I swear if she died tho.... I could see the writers doing that to truly put June on her own to not have to worry about the other girls, perhaps to liberate herself and save Hannah either before or after.

Ooo, maybe what finally convinces June to leave is that Janine is barely alive and Janine need's June's help to be medically transported out. I like that twist.

Someone explain to me what Nick did. That confused me. From what I understood, he worked with Commander Lawrence to organize a temporary cease fire in the name of good will/improve foreign relations/trade (and of course he was hoping June would be near the border and this would give her a chance to cross). The rest of the crew of elite dicks initially shot that down, but then Lawrence went behind Nick's back to get them to agree with it if they do an air strike first. He did this because of his quid pro quo deal with Aunt Lydia in each of their own attempts to get themselves reinstated to their previous roles/status. He probably also got some dirt on some of the Elite Dicks from Lydia, which is why they agreed. So with Lawrence's new deal Nick had to lead the air strike. I'm unclear if he was actually a pilot, or a military commander leading the operation from the ground--I think it was the latter. So in Nick's attempts to help June across the border he was put in the position of possibly killing her in the air strike.

I want more backstory on Nick. They made it seems like he was up to some bad stuff before, but we never got confirmation. His rise to power is also interesting, maybe his past played a role?

I feel like I have a lot of feelings about the new season but I’m not able to express them well. I feel conflicted about certain things.
Now that June is in Chicago I feel like I’m understanding less and less if she doesn’t take the opportunity to leave (if given the chance). She’s not near Hannah. I always thought her main point was she wasn’t leaving GILEAD without her and now she’s geographically separated herself.
She’s not any good to her daughter if she dies and Chicago is awful. And I don’t understand how she thinks she’s going to help her from there. Canada at least would be safe and she could provide valuable information.
I gasped at the ending of episode 5.

Episode 5 made me realize that I’m not cut out for politics. Not that I ever thought I was. But I can’t figure out Lawrence’s end game and who he is playing, it’s all just so skeezy

I finally finished episode 5. I didn't like how June seemed to look down on Janine and Steven's relationship but I can understand her concern for not wanting her friend to be taken advantage of. I would not have let Janine trade my cloak for a hat. They saw how limited supplies were, they were worth more and for more supplies to at least get them some food/out of the rebel area to cross into Canada.
I had a feeling June was going to leave Janine behind or something happen to her. I was surprised how it ended but glad June is finally going to go to Canada. I was surprised by CO Lawrence but if he is staying, he has to play the game to survive. I also felt like it was a way to his back at Nick in a way. I hate that Lydia is near handmaids again.

What is she like in the books? She helps bring down Gilead if I remember correctly. Yeah, in The Testament. I think that's what it's called.

So many tears this episode. Amazing acting from Samira and Elizabeth. And next week's episode looks amazing. Damn them for not giving us any info on Janine. I'm just going to hope they want us to assume she's dead but she'll pop up again somewhere eventually. She's scrappy.
About damn time someone was able to talk some sense into June.
Loved June and Luke finally being reunited. Really hoping they don't go all love triangle though with the whole Nick situation.
I was really expecting Nick to be on one of the boats that inspected the ship.
I'm so excited to see June in Canada. I'm going to assume there will be bonding issues with Nichole. I want to see June reunited with Rita and Rory Gilmore. And I can't wait to see her confront the Waterfords.
I could have done without the flashbacks. How many episodes is this season?

Wow. What a good episode. Thoughts.
Not shocked at all they leave us hanging about Janine. I think she's very much alive. I think the last several episodes were setting her up to be kind of like the new June, as the former handmaid who is now leading the resistance from the inside. Lots of talk about her being able to make her own decisions and not needing June to decide everything for her. No longer just damaged Janine who's kind of crazy and needs to be looked after.
I really liked that they made June's thought process clear for not leaving. All the guilt she had. Really well-written and acted.
Very excited to see where the story goes from here and a June and the Waterfords reunion.

They really did a good job ramping up the tension in the refugee scene. I knew she was going to get on the boat from the promos and I was still nervous and hiding my eyes, lol.

I could’ve done without most of the flashbacks too. The one with her announcing her pregnancy got me though. Mothers guilt is so fucking intense and strong. My heart breaks for her ‘leaving’ Hannah behind.

I like this episode but agree with others that I could have done without the flashbacks. I was frustrated with June wanting to go back to get Hannah but get it with the mommy guilty. I teared up when she started apologizing for being the only one and not having Hannah. I'm glad she finally made it out!

The flashbacks are what added to the episode for me! Brought me back to the visceral motherhood feelings from the first seasons instead of annoyed with June feelings.
