I guess you could say I was "popular" but I wasn't a mean girl. You can believe me or not on that lol but the reason I had so many friends was because I was nice to everyone. I like having a wide variety of friends with different interests. I'm an introvert but also that girl at the bar that makes friends with everyone once I get a few drinks in me This was me. I was in the popular group, but friendly with everyone. And there were some mean girls, but I’d say most of the popular girls were like that. Also we rigged the superlative votes to be jokes and so I was Most Athletic my senior year which was highly inaccurate. My grouchy friend got Most Friendly

I was just a regular kid who got along with mostly everyone. By the time junior and senior high came I was hanging out and partying with kids from other schools though.

I was definitely in the outcast group. I didn’t fit in anywhere really. I was on the drill team but I was on the fringes of the team. I lacked confidence and was quiet so I was overlooked a lot. I was made fun of a bit in 8th/9th grade but after that not so much. I had people I could talk to at lunch or in class but no great friendships.
That said I had a great group of friends by my junior year just none of them went to my school!! I met my best friend in 6th grade but we ended up at different high schools. I ended up meeting my people through her. We had great times on the weekends and are all still friends.

I also was super into getting good grades. I walked in on one of my classmates selling photocopies of my notes (that they stole out of my bag) to other classmates 🤣🤣
I wasn't really mad but I was like damn, you could have at least let me in on some of the profit

I was voted "class non-conformist" my senior year. But also I was a rule follower; I just dyed my hair weird colors and listened to punk rock. I'm very complicated

I was one of the geeks—all AP classes, band, president of the German club, VP of FBLA. I had friends in all groups but wasn’t rich enough to be preppy and not an ass like the popular kids. Didn’t get into drugs or fight but I was friends with some of them. Went to church group with the group of Christian kids and also ran around with the garage band group. Stood up for the kids getting picked on and went to parties with friends who had already graduated. I had 250 in my graduating class.
One of my popular/preppy friends I had known since 4th grade and he was genuinely nice. He and I were matched as physics partners and I went to his house to work on a project. His mom came home from work and almost lost her mind because a (my last name) was in her house. It was a small rural town and we weren’t one of the rich families so that dictated a lot.

In my high school, a large public school, you had to be wealthy to be popular, no exceptions ever. There was only one high school for a large area of all socioeconomic backgrounds because they refused to split up the football team. So major class issues. Even the teachers were a part of that system.

Also this thread made me do some very not fun math. I graduated high school 25 years ago next month. Wow. That seems not possible.

I started high school a month after coming to the US. I did not know a single soul there and I had a language barrier. It was really hard to fit in with others because most had friendships from before. I kept to myself mostly and just did my studying. I was known as the smart kid who always got As in every class. 🤷♀️

There were 64 kids in my class. I was a theater kid, backstage and was only really friends with the other backstage kids. It was a private school and my parents took out loans for me to go so I was "poor" compared to the rest of the kids. I was voted quietest.

I was homeschooled and was big into the debate team. So awkward nerd. I'm still working on growing out of it.

Also band geek, captain of the Reach for the Top team (a Canadian high school quiz show that Alex Trebek hosted before he was famous), swam on the swim team the short time we had one. I was made fun of, as were my friends. But I was a fighter so I generally threw back hard on anyone who said shit about my friends. And because I that “smart kid” I may have been that kid that made the bully feel “stupid” but I felt pretty strongly at the time they deserved it. My best friend was pretty popular though, so I got some ins due to her.

I was friends with the smart kids but had to work hard on my grades. But also was the goodie goodie that hung with the stoners. I was the friend that people called when they were having a bad trip.
There were only 100 kids in my graduating class so all groups were overlapping.

I was a nerd but I was a dish back then so I feel like I was popular adjacent.
I was pretty friendly to most everyone.

In the kindest way possible, I am not surprised that a lot of you did debate team. ❤️
My school didn’t have one but I think I’d have enjoyed it.

I thought of high school as something that must be endured. Kat Stratford from 10 things was my idol. I spent my junior year out of state in a small, special program and really developed close friends that I still keep in touch with. There were only 30 of us and we were all close. I consider that my HS experience. Otherwise I was smart and quirky and had random friends in all different groups.

I was kind of popular I guess. I hung out with a lot of different people. I never felt like I fit in anywhere specific. I got good grades, did extracurricular art stuff, swim team, rode my horses. I partied a lot too. I met my now H when I was a sophomore and he was a senior, so I hung out with his whole big group. I just kind of floated around lol. I couldn’t wait to get the hell out though.

I moved a bunch of times before high school, having to make friends and then lose them every couple years, so by the time I got to high school I was pretty meh about fitting into a group. I did like the little goth contigent at our school, otherwise I was pretty bored. My social time outside of school was me and my boyfriend driving into Philly to hang out on South Street, going to heavy metal shows, or just foolin' around. Ok hanging out at Zipperhead in the 90s was pretty peak high school for me.

I fit into no group. I did theatre, choir(s), band, orchestra, jazz band, pep band, track and field, swimming, soccer, took AP classes, hung with the skater crowd, goth/ punk crowd, and was incredibly socially awkward.
To this day, I hate labels for people.

My graduating class was 120 kids but I was a cheerleader and part of the “popular/preppy” clique. I was a social butterfly and had a serious boyfriend most of high school.

I went to a super small school (300 kids total, 21 in my graduating class). So we didn’t have a lot of issues with cliques. We had the super popular kids, the loner kids, and everyone else. I would say I was preppy, pretty popular, but as cliche as it sounds I really did get along with everyone. I was an overachiever- straight A’s, played basketball, was a cheerleader, student council, senior class VP, 1st chair clarinet, editor of the yearbook, prom court, etc. it was all try try to earn scholarships for college since I would be the first in my family to go. My great grandma raised me so there was zero money for me to go to college. I got one scholarship for $300. So looking back I wish I would have spent more time having fun and less time worried about my college resume. I was sneaking into bars at 16 and partying with my older waitress friends from the restaurant I worked at, so I had some fun ETA the 300 kids in my school was grades K through 12th. And as much as my friends tease me, it was not a one room school house

I guess I was popular but I don't really think in a bad way....I played sports in each season, was a cheerleader, and was in all honors classes and a bunch of clubs. I was generally nice to everyone especially those that were different than me but did have a few girls that didn't like me. I enjoyed high school a lot and definitely got a lot more shy and introverted when I went to college and the pond got bigger.

I had about 400 in my graduating class. I wasn't into sports or any clubs. I was friendly with alot of people. But my core group of friends changed my senior year. I met my now H (who was 4 years older) the summer of before junior year and the new group was just older and more mature.

So many small classes! I wonder if that makes it easier or harder to find where you fit.
My graduating class was 350. That is pretty small for Texas cities. DD's graduating class will most likely be over 1,000!
