What song brings you to a certain memory when you hear it?
For me it’s I want to dance with somebody. I vividly remember my mom dancing to it while cooking and baking in the kitchen. It was her jam. This song means so much to me.

Also mine and H’s song is My love is your love. Yes we’re big Whitney fans here.

This Is How We Do It. Yeah, it was a skating party song when I was in school. Fond memories of falling on my ass until my grandma got me inline skates.
Any Foo Fighters song, since I saw them in concert with H.
It's a Long Way to the Top, by ACDC. It saved my sanity when DS was small, because he liked the bagpipe part and would stop crying.

When I was 19 and away at college my mom sang "you put this love in my heart" on my voice mail. So, that.

Oh, the RENT soundtrack. My friends and I would have dance parties while watching the movie in college.

“i want to dance with somebody” always made Poppy kick when I was pregnant. And then when she was a baby, it would stop her crying. Definitely still a favorite. Any Whitney is good. We classify it as “slow whitney” or “fast whitney.”

The Golden Girls theme song always reminds me of my stepmother. Every time we heard it we would sing it together and I would dance on her feet to it. It’s one of my favorite memories of her.

Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers- my grandfather would place me on his feet and dance me around the room whenever it came on. We danced to it together at my wedding; it was the only song that came to mind when we picked one for our grandfather/granddaughter dance (instead of the traditional father/daughter dance)

All of the Whitney talk brought me to Run to You by Whitney Houston. It reminds me of my mom. It's a complicated memory though.

Most of my song memories take me back to specific nights of questionable choices in college.
Pitbull’s hotel motel makes me want grocery store birthday cake.

- I'll Stand By You by The Pretenders. My dad and I danced to that at my wedding.
- Postal Service - Nothing Better reminds me of one of my best friends

Jammin by Bob Marley was the song we played most on road trips in my dad’s van when I was a kid.
PYT by MJ reminds me of my mom. We always sang Michael Jackson songs around the house but this is the one we loved the most and would request if their was a DJ.
Return of the Mack reminds me of my high school friends and a specific dance party we had.
Mambo number 5 reminds me of studying abroad and basically everywhere we went in Europe played it.

Laid by James: song of my 20s Turn Your Lights Down Low the version with Lauryn Hill: summer nights in the Hamptons Silent in the Morning by Phish: my first Phish tour Momma He's Crazy by the Judds: cooking in the kitchen with my mom July by Mundy: dancing every Tuesday in Sunnyside Subterranean Homesick Blues by Bob Dylan: watching my dad carve ducks from wood Ok we have to be friends. I feel like Phish and Mundy are VERY niche. Waste by Phish reminds me of the weird two years between college and grad school when I dated a guy from Upstate New York (in SoCal) July by Mundy reminds me of the summer in grad school that I spent in Galway. Specifically it reminds me of taking Bus Eireann from Galway to Limerick to visit a friend.

Heatwave by Linda Ronstadt. My mother would put this on her old record player, and we’d get on the bed and jump and dance.
On the Road Again by Willie Nelson. My dad would sing it on road trips.
Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver. My close ties with West Virginia. We used to sing it at the stadium after every football game in college.
Ironic by Alanis Morrisette. It was playing in the OR during my c-section with DD, and I told the nurses to “turn this shit off because I’m not having my first kid born to this horrific song” 🤣
I’ll Be Good by James Young, I See Fire (the Jasmine Thomson version). I used to rock DS in the middle of the night and sing these songs to try to get him to sleep.

When SO and I first started talking I asked home to suggest a song for me and this is what he sent. Then I’m pretty sure it was the first song we had sex to, ha. Sometimes I forget about it but every time I go through my songs and listen to it it makes me happy

Dan Fogelberg brings me back to long car drives with my parents.
Cat Stevens brings me back to my dad dropping me off at school in the morning and jamming “where do the children play.” I still fucking love Cat Stevens. Or Yusuf as he goes by now, not to disrespect.

This thread is apt because we were at a pizza place this evening that just had the soundtrack of my life from 1995 to 1999. I probably embarrassed my child as I danced and sang the hits of my youth.

Paula Abdul - Rush Rush takes me back to a very specific memory of vacations in Florida.
Ciara - 1, 2 Step, and Gwen Stefani - Holla Back Girl both bring back happy memories of my study abroad year.
Any Green Day song prior to American Idiot takes me right back to my teenage years. I was a big fan and saw them live 5 times

Any CCR song reminds me of riding in the car with my dad. It’s not a specific song, but when I hear opera, it brings back memories of my mom jamming out (lol) to the metropolitan opera on Saturdays while cleaning. Ace of Base -the sign-middle school dances INXS- never tear us apart- MH and my first dance song. Jazz songs remind me of my grandparents.

I first heard Mundy in Sunnyside, Queens, which has a huge Irish population. A summer fling saw him several times at University College Cork and knew I would be a fan.

Dance me to the end of love by Leonard Cohen...my niece sang it for my Parents 50th wedding anniversary which was a few months before her cancer became untreatable. Those were the days...there is a Russian version lol and my dad always used to sing it in the car. Mika...Relax, take it easy...for all the fucked up NYC nightclub party nights. Leonard Cohen will forever and ever be my favorite live show. Saw him twice, once at Radio City and once at MSG. Both were better than you could imagine. He danced onstage to Dance Me to the End of Love at Radio City.

Ahead by a Century by The Tragically Hip reminds me of hot summer afternoons as a child. I have a specific memory of running errands with my dad on a really hot day and stopping for DQ sundaes.
Fix You by Coldplay reminds me of driving to the mountains with my husband in the early weeks of our relationship. It's a very sweet memory.
Cat Stevens and Red Hot Chili Peppers remind me of road trips and camping as a kid.
