After reading somewhere on HIH about people who have invisalign/braces/etc, I asked the dentist yesterday at my cleaning about them.
It doesn't look like my dental insurance would cover any of it (seriously, what the fuck is the point of dental? They cover almost nothing). OOP would be $5500-5800 for either invisalign or fastbraces. That's probably not in my future.

I also had to pay OOP for Invisalign because my dental changed in August, 2020 when my company merged with another and became a 3rd, and my new dental plan requires you be on their plan for 24 months before they'll cover orthodontics. I ended up getting a deal going directly through an ortho, and not my regular dentist. Granted I didn't need a ton of work (5 sets of trays/ 10 weeks all together), but it did seem like they were willing to work with me on pricing and they did offer payment plans. My H wants to get it next year (one of his lateral incisors is slightly pushed in so it looks kinda funny) and the ortho suggested last year that we find a new insurance on the healthmarket that only requires 12 months of being on their plan. So he got Cigna (I think) and he'll be eligible for 2k of ortho benefits in December of this year. Makes it much more manageable.

May not be a difference, but could be worth asking about. I'd check with an orthodontist regarding treatment plans and costs. Anecdote. My employer is one of those who invariably turn up in the top 50 US employers bla bla; good amount of insurance perks. We had a braces benefit for adults for two years. The usage of the benefit was overwhelming - especially when the underwriters looked at how premiums were standing up to the influx. Year three - we returned to braces for children under 18 or 21 or something like that. I got braces as an adult and I have a fairly significant correction to be made. I did traditional braces. It was worth every penny, health and 'looks' wise, and I ended up not caring that people could see I had braces.

I met an IRL close friend through DC moms before I found the bump, so it's not necessarily the worst, but maybe not the best. I think if you are in MD, it is at least a few degrees down from the DC public school lottery nonsense. I think thechickencoop is in MD and bazi is in DC, if you ladies have any thoughts. koko DC Urban Moms is a mixed bag. You can certainly get unvarnished opinions, but it’s definitely not representative of the entire region. I’d use it as a data point, not necessarily a guide. There’s a Silver Springs Parents groups.io listserv. I’d start there. On the whole, Montgomery County schools are very good. ::wave hi:: what's she freaking out about? I'm in MD but don't know much about mont co except $$$$$$😳😂

Im trying to figure out how to celebrate son's graduation on gd board If anyone has ideas? Dinner on a patio? We always do fancy restaurant dinners after graduations. My mom also threw backyard bbq parties after our undergrad graduations, but the nice family dinner after the ceremony is really what sticks with me. I’d ask your son what he wants. As long as your family is vaxxed, I’d feel comfortable throwing an evening outdoor gtg with masks for family and friends.

My dentist office does invisaligh and fast braces in house and it was just a casual question asking for the cost estimate. I have a sizable gap in my front teeth, but otherwise not bad, orthodontia wise.

Oh goodness, lemondrop what a beautiful pup. I hope she pulls through. fatpony I use smile direct club but I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m having a fine experience but I went down a rabbit hole a few nights ago about all the horror stories people are having with them. I’m only 2.5 weeks til I am done at this point so I am sticking to it but seeing a dentist right afterward to make sure it all looks ok. I’m a little scared tbh.

I have a friend moving to silver springs and she is freaking out about schools. Is DC moms an appropriate resource? I've seen people talk about it on here. Any other resources? I don't particularly care for that forum but Montgomery county schools are great. Do you know where in Silver Spring? It's a big town.

dc2london I imagine you looking exactly like your avatar in which case I say yes fringe (that means bangs, right? Lol) I have side bangs for the first time in like 2 years because I didn't get them cut while pregnant or during COVID and I didn't realize how much I missed them.

Yes, yes I look exactly like my avatar, we'll go with that 😜 I was pleased to see that side swept bangs are back. I might start there.

I just found out my grandpa died this morning. I was planning on visiting him today too so I'm extra sad. I did get to take the twins to see him this weekend, though he was asleep the whole time. I talked to him anyway and told him about all the things the twins were doing, etc.
I know it was time but it still feels so unfair that we all were robbed of his last year. I feel like that anger as it relates to him and my great grandma and missing that time with them will probably stick with me for a long time. After effects of the pandemic that I certainly never anticipated at the beginning of it.

I'm so sorry@willow . I think it's ok to sit with that anger as long as you need to. It is completely unfair.
