Starting off this month by saying my kids' school just sent home stuff for a fundraiser. Of course it's all expensive shit (Who wants to spend $20 on 8 cookies!) and DD1 is over here wanting to sell 100 items (in 2 weeks, no less) so she can get a lego robot. I'd rather spend the $150 on the robot.

DD1 has been on spring break this week and is so bored that I am letting DD2 stay home from preschool tomorrow. DD1 is usually better at playing when she is around. FX.

We took both kids to the ophthalmologist this morning, and my big kid is getting his first pair of glasses. We also have to start patching two hours a day. Anyone have experience with that? I think I'm going to order one of the patch pal ones that will fit on his glasses, instead of sticking on his eye.

There are lots of fun patches - maybe let him pick out a design?

Definitely going to let him pick! He was very excited to pick out glasses that match his brother's.

She uses the See Worthy patches that were recommended here ( byjove I think?). She also tried the Orthopad ones and I didn’t like them as much (both the shape and the stickiness). Her doctor gave us a patch pal type one but she fiddles with it. She doesn’t mess with the adhesive ones at all and it’s no big deal for her. I put it on first thing in the morning. She’s newly 4. How old is your ds? An older kid would probably be better about a patch pal one.

She has accommodative esotropia and wears Glasses+bifocals. We were patching 2 hours a day and after moving and finding a new ophthalmologist, he recommended bumping it to 6 hours. It’s been about 8 weeks of that. We started out with the stick on Ortopad ones but then she began to fight it and we went with a Patch Pals and have had that ever since. Most days, she reminds me when it’s time to patch.

Lakes thank you for sharing! I’ll look into those. He’ll be 5 a week from Monday and he has some sensory processing difficulties, so I worry about the adhesive bothering him. But I’m glad to hear you’re having a positive experience.

notblanche I put the See Worthy ones on the back of my hand first to get rid of some of the stickiness. But the Orthopad ones left terrible red marks on dd’s face. I assume she would have left the patch pal alone eventually but after training her to leave her glasses the F alone (she got them at 21 months), it drove me nuts to see her fiddling with them. But that might be a me problem and not a kid problem 😅

I imagine it would have been even harder with a toddler.

notblanche, my DD1 (now 14 so years ago) and DD3 both had to patch. DD3 had to wear hers a LOT so we got the kind that covered her glasses. Once she had to wear over 2 hours a day, the adhesive bothered her.

OK all, I finally started Schitt's Creek. It took me a few episodes to get into it, but then I loved it so so so much.

Stick with it, even if you think you’re not into it within a couple episodes. It is a feel good show.

Happy Easter to all who celebrate.
We woke up to an egged yard and discovered it was FIL. He got up and egged our yard at 5am to surprise us all. LOL @ me for thinking the 3yo was imagining eggs in the yard before I had a chance to place any.
It has been a pretty quiet and relaxing day.
