August Blooms Like was for your DD’s 7th birthday. I hope she had a wonderful day, and I really do hope you will be able to have a big bash for her when she turns 7! DS1 misses his big parties too. DS2 has never had one, so I guess he doesn’t really care one way or another - as long as he gets his favorite Oreo cream cake 😂. I’m sorry that you didn’t get that position, but at least there’s some consolation that those other A-type, cocky guys didn’t get it either? I wonder why they didn’t fill it. Too bad they wasted time and resources advertising a position that they weren’t serious about filling. That sucks. How is the work from home thing going for you? danvers Oh man, I’m sorry about all of that. Stomach bugs are the absolute WORST. I can’t deal with puke. Like, as in myself puking or other people puking (especially kids) - none of that is fun. I hope you escape it and don’t have to be out from school that long. Good that you have a plan though. Is your student teacher still helping out in the classroom too? duskymonkey Whenever you go to Langkawi, just lemme know and we’ll meet up in Koh Lipe! Would we such an awesome time - I just know it. And yes - America would be looking a lot more like Brazil if Trump had won another 4 years. Shudder. Thank God that didn’t happen - it was so close....shudder again.

I made it into school to copy worksheets and such for the students this morning and knew instantly I was getting the stomach bug too.
DD1 and I are miserable. I’m just laying on the floor and she has the sofa (with towels and blankets and whatnot all round her). DD2 seems fine now but I think she’s scared to eat. She’s getting unlimited screen time and I don’t care.
H is the only one left standing now and I’m not sure how.

danvers Nooooo!!!! Hoping it's a short time bug and that your H is spared. I have vivid memories of 2019 Xmas at my ILs with Norovirus. I barely escaped it on the day we left and so so worried for my ILs. Sending you ALL MIGHTY healing vibes and good jujus. Taitai same here sistah! puking just makes puke too. DS at least knows how to run to the bathroom now and lil fella actually knows how to ask for a bucket - he got sick on the way home from the dentist last month and asked for a bucket but I couldn't reach it and by the time I could pull over safely, I was 0.3 seconds from handing him the bucket before he upchucked. So yeah...he still gets car sick. le sigh. and it was a barely 20 minutes trip to dentist and we were a mere 5 minutes from home too.

August Blooms Big hugs. terribly sorry the job didn't work out, I know you had your hopes up for a change. With everything going on may be good that you're able to WFH. Incredibly tough situation all around for everyone and I heard from my cousin the CN vaccination got botched. I am glad you've gotten yours. 1 less worry off your shoulders and I really hope your H gets his soon since he has to go into work right? I am nervous with all the variants going around and very recent news about a new resistant variant found in TX. I just wanted to cry when I read that. I am also angry with people who bitch and moan about pandemic measures yet refuse the vaccine. How loud do you need people to shout it out that if you want this to end you need to do something about it. Just ignoring it isn't going to make it go away.

danvers I hope you feel better, stomach bugs are the worst! Taitai WFH is going ok, today is my first day of virtual school plus WFH. The morning was chaos but so far so good! I’ve gone into the office a few days over the past two weeks. I think I like doing a combo of both. Best of both worlds! These sort of hiring situations are fairly common unfortunately. Everything moves at a glacial pace, then new management, new fiscal year or something else and then nothing happens. I got my feedback and it was very constructive. Basically they knew I was a good candidate but I didn’t check off enough boxes with my answers and the other candidates did. They were very encouraging about staying in contact and if I was ever to move to another department in their division they would also like to hear from me. So I failed but not really lol duskymonkey Yes DH works outside the home, he manages a large warehouse/manufacturer. At least he has his own office, washroom and kitchen area since the rest of upper management can WFH. We have a bunch of different vaccine programs. Sunday night the government backtracked and lowered the age to from over 55 to over 40 for those that can got to pharmacies and get AstraZeneca. The over 55 crowd mostly qualified for other clinics that were offering Pfizer or Moderna and they weren’t being put to use. Everything got booked up quick. DH decided he wants to wait for Pfizer or Moderna but it won’t be too long of a wait because he will be in the next phase of the rollout. It kind of sucks that it’s not being offered to essential workers but it is what it is.

I have done over 14 loads of laundry since Saturday. This feels like one of those “mom things” no one else cares about but you all would get. You just keep washing the bedding and folding the clothes because there’s no other option but it’s never ever done and 5x more than normal 😩
We are 5 days out from beginnings of the stomach bug and DD2 and I are over the worst of it and probably feel the best. Nobody really feels like eating but everyone can keep things down for the last 36 hours. All those cleaning and sick-day supplies I stockpiled during the lock down have really come in handy though so I feel like it wasn’t all in vain!

danvers Like is because it looks like you are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. 14 loads since Saturday, omg. I’m shuddering remembering the last time a stomach bug went through our household, when DS1 was only like 1 year old. I hope this doesn’t happen to you guys again - ever!

danvers I cannot fathom 14 loads plus having to take care of the girls while you're ill too but yet somehow I can. I hope by now you're all doing much much better and your H was able to avoid it miraculously. Taitai it was so hard to watch the kids just retching every 10 mins for hours. I remember crying and just holding them and the worst was when they asked for water crying and I couldn't give them any or if I did, it caused them to throw up. The absolute worst time in my life.

This past week it snow off and on for several days and one night it plunged to 17K. Hubs and I were speculating the there were a few people who moved from out of state and had their sprinklers turned on last week when we hit 70s. Temps climbed back up to the 50s today so it was nice and we spent the day outside cleaning up the yard a little and the boys "helped" potting up some strawberry plants for a neighbor down the street. DS also asked for finger sandwiches for lunch so I made a classic egg and cucumber and cobbled together a ham, pepper, cucumber and laughing cow cheese for the other and according to him, I had to cut it into small triangles lol! We're planning on going for a bike ride tomorrow to check for wild asparagus. In other wild news, hubs told me yesterday his folks aren't going to get vaccinated. He's upset and needing to thread lightly and having hard conversations with them now. They only really watch Fox news and a years ago they sent us Rush Limbaugh books and I told hubs I am about ready to torch it out back. I really just hate how all this has been politicized.

We are all, thankfully, fully over it now! H was not spared - him and DD1 seemed to get the worst of it actually. DD1 only went to kindergarten on Friday and the only reason we even bothered with one day of school was because I still had to begin giving my own students the state standardized test. And the absolute worst was indeed DD2 asking for water and me having to say no and then feeling like the worst mom ever to her sad little cries. I’m hoping we do not have to go through this again ever!

danvers I am so happy that you are through with the stomach bug, but that sucks your H ended up coming down with it too. My sympathies of having to deal with that. Like what duskymonkey said - the feeling of helplessness when your little ones can’t stop throwing up (and when you can’t give them even water) is just horrible. Let’s hope no other O17ers have to go through this in 2021....or ever really! duskymonkey Oh man, I’m sorry your ILs are not getting the vaccine due to the politicization in the states. I had a family member say to me that “some people just are constitutionalists” when explaining why this other family member wasn’t getting the vaccine. And I couldn’t stop myself - I flat out said, “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. You can like the constitution and also like vaccines. The constitution has nothing to do with polio, measles, flu, or COVID vaccines. That’s not even logical thinking. People where I live would LOVE the privilege to have a vaccine widely available like in the USA, but instead there are people dying in their beds at home, because they can’t get admitted to a hospital. Spare me the constitutional crap.” And that was the end of that conversation, lol. I am done with the politicization of public health issues in America. Seeing it from overseas - it’s just the height of ignorance, selfishness, and privilege. I hate it.

Popping in with a Sunday bake with the boys. I never make cookies outside of Christmas so this is a first. Insanely easy and fast. The boys didn't make a very big mess either rolling these in sprinkles. Another Stella Parks home run recipe. I can see myself screwing around with the basic dough and adding other flavours etc. www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2015/12/soft-and-chewy-sugar-cookie-recipe.html

duskymonkey Those cookies look so fun and bright! I’m going to try that recipe - it looks easy, fun for the kids, and tasty. I’ve been getting bored with our normal cookie recipes - can’t wait to try this one! Thanks for sharing 😊

I've been MIA but to clear up the confusion a couple pages back regarding the bee swarm -- I WAS 100% SARCASTIC when I said I'd just reach my arm in there. lol I find bees and beekeepers really interesting though. The boys and I LOVE honey; there's a large local bee farm nearby and all the local grocery stores carry their honey.
DS1 starts T-Ball tonight and he is super excited because his mom talked his dad into coaching. Hahaha. Should be fun, I hope. I mean it is right up DH's alley and will be natural for him.
We got 2.5 inches of snow last Tuesday (it melted by noon) and it is in the 80s today. Everyone's allergies are going crazy.
