curmudgeon, if those are honey bees it wouldn't be hard to find someone to take them off your hands. But honestly, if I were you I'd just put on a glove and reach my hand in to find the queen, let the bees crawl on my arm and body and carry them off somewhere else. lolololol duskymonkey, yup my husband and I have had both shots now. We both had a period of about 5-6 hours where we felt poorly - mostly just extreme fatigue, body aches, and minor chills. The fatigue in general lasted about 24 hours probably, but we both hit a wall and crashed for a few hours. We felt better after some rest. We had a really nice Easter. We spent the day at my Mom's and all of my family was able to make it, so it was a good day. Our boys are much younger than the other grand kids and the relationships they have with their cousins are pretty special. My sister and I got to visit Grandma in the nursing home, so that was extra special.

curmudgeon are the bees still an issue? My FIL is a hobby beekeeper and my H would like to do so as well eventually. They usually just find bees for FIL’s hives via FB posts from people asking for help removing new swarms.

Shot #2 (Moderna) is now done! ✅
I took tomorrow off from school. I may have zero side effects but I really just wanted a day to stay home, nap, and binge bad tv. H got his second dose and is staying home as well. H and I are about halfway through Schitts Creek and love it. Thank you to all who recommended it! We started Blacklist during Spring Break too so there’s plenty to keep us busy tomorrow 😂

The bees left this afternoon. I missed the initial leaving but I caught the end where they were flying all around. But they didn’t go far. 😆 they are now in our neighbors tree.

36 hrs into Moderna shot #2 and H and I are still pretty miserable. We are super glad we took today off because we didn’t do much but sleep and be miserable. The chills have been the absolutely worst for me.
We kept the girls home be cause neither of us wanted to get up, get them ready, drive them in, and repeat that process to pick them up early afternoon. A missed day of preschool and kindergarten won’t keep them out of Harvard. They basically got screen time all day so we could sleep (or attempt it).
We will by go into work tomorrow. Hopefully Tylenol will help. There may not be much teaching happening though!

danvers August Blooms CoachTsWife So exciting to hear that you are all getting your shots! The side effects don’t sound fun at all, but how nice that you all will be/have been fully vaccinated! The vaccine roll-out over here is no bueno, we probably won’t be able to get it locally until early 2022. Thankful that H and I will be able to get vaccinated this summer when we come back to the states for a visit. danvers So happy you like Schitts Creek! It keeps getting better all the way through to the end of season 6. I love David! Alexis is so good with her physical comedy too - and Ted is another one of my favorites. Plus, Moira’s accent is jus the best. August Blooms I’m not sure why the colors turned out so brilliant on our Easter eggs. I think it might be because they are salted duck eggs instead of regular bleached chicken eggs? We also bought local food coloring to do it....might have been super strong stuff?? The eggs are still looking good (they’re salted, so they keep for a few weeks at room temp). Also, sorry to hear about the COVID stuff by you, but I’m happy you have had your first shot. Hope your H stays healthy. curmudgeon Your bee story had me cracking up. Hell no to going anywhere near them! I’m allergic to bees though, so....I’m not a good judge on that. Hopefully a local bee keeper can take the swarm off your neighbor’s hands! CoachTsWife Would you really have reached in to find the Queen and let the bees crawl on your arm? Our nanny’s brother keeps bees and does that kind of stuff. They say the local honey bees are pretty “mellow,” and don’t sting, but I dunno - hard pass on reaching into a swarm of bees. So glad you had a nice Easter and got to see your Grandma! duskymonkey We are officially on HoR 2 now. DS1 wants to buy the books for his beat friend’s birthday present now - HoR is getting popular over here too!

We just got back from a little island trip - it was so nice. We’d not been to this island before, and it’s only a 2.5 hour drive from where we live - crystal clear water, white sand, gentle waves. Really nice. They don’t allow cars on the island, so it’s only accessible by boat and little taxi tuk tuk-like vehicles on the island. Not many people around, which was also good.
We were extremely lucky on the timing - the day after we left the city, they found these huge clusters of COVID due to the UK variant infecting several popular nightclubs. Now, there’s the biggest outbreak yet, and things will lock down soon. I am glad we were on a sparsely populated island when this new wave came about. We drove ourselves home today, and now just plan to hunker down until they can (hopefully) get this new outbreak under control. The kids were off school this past week and next week for spring break...I’m thinking we’ll be back to online school when we start up again later in April. Sigh. At least we got in one trip before being stuck at home again.
Poof!

Whelp - we’re heading for another lockdown. The schools have all sent emails to parents, preparing us to possibly have the rest of the term online (mid April - mid June). Ughhhhhhh. It’s such a waste in particular for DS2 to have online school - I mean really, what is the point for 3 year olds doing online sessions. I think that with about 200-300 cases per day in a city of 14 million, they really could keep the international schools open to close out the year (local public schools are already on their summer break, so they are not an issue). I just hate that they leave the malls open, but they close the schools when these lockdowns happen.
Let’s hope the air quality improves (we’re just at the tail end of pollution season), so at least my kids can get outside to burn off some energy each day - without driving H and I crazy in the house.

Taitai oh no, you said another lockdown was coming 😩I agree there’s is no point in 3 year olds and virtual school. People are asking the same things here too - why are gyms and restaurants open over schools? I hope the weather/AQI stays nice for you all too, mid-June virtual schooling sounds so far away!

Out of the blue H was called about two job openings outside the teaching field. Both would require relocating (which we aren’t opposed too) and both would *sort of* have pay increases for H. We had just come to terms that this town would be where we would stay for the long term so we weren’t mentally ready to entertain another option, let alone two!
Teaching jobs tend to open up in Spring but I can’t do anything till H and I decided what to pursue or where...

Sorry to hear about the lockdown Taitai. I missed the island pics you posted - it sounds lovely though. Good luck with the job decisions danvers! We just stocked up on supplies and whatnot, prepared online schooling areas for the boys, and basically have stopped leaving our compound. The hospitals are all full and are turning people away, so they’re putting people in field hospitals and hotel room hospitals for mild cases. Ugh. I hope they can get it under control. danvers Exciting about the new job option! I will say - as someone who has moved a lot - I don’t regret it one bit. I enjoy checking out new places though, and I look back on my small town upbringing with appreciation - but no regrets that I didn’t stay. If you don’t totally love where you live and the job would be a great opportunity for your H, I think you should consider it!

I was thinking the same reading it like, OK here's someone who knows their way around bees. I didn't know that you could take the QB and the hive will follow willingly? I thought if you'd get anywhere near the QB, your ass would surely be attacked by the angry hive. curmudgeon that's comical that the bees moved just next door. Are they still there?

CoachTsWife danvers I am glad you all survived the vax. I can't recall if I mentioned that my sister's side effects were really bad. She had all the COVID symptoms except for respiratory related and lasted a little over 48 hrs. I am a little scared when I get my second shot and will prep and stock up so hubs won't lose his mind having to deal with the kids on his own. danvers I am really really glad you and your H are fully vaxed. Also I totally second Taitai about moving especially if the job prospectus is looking good and moving when the kids are young I think is so much easier than when they're older. Out of state or within? The housing market where I am is totally insane like I was telling hubs, if it wasn't COVID, we should consider selling our house and rent! until houses become affordable which will probably happen after the country gradually eases back to normal life. Honestly I wouldn't pay the current asking price of our home at all, it's absurd. I am also kinda sad and selfish that our town is becoming bigger and I really don't want that, I mean I moved out here to be in the middle of no where and I was totally fine with that and so was hubs when he bought the house before we even knew each other existed.

Taitai I was reading about Thailand! Ugh! I am so sorry you all are having to go through a surge. It's so awful for the hospital staff. I hope they can get it under control soon. I totally agree that there's no need for a 3 YO to be virtual. There's no way lil fella will sit for any length of time for school in front of a screen. Although he does love playing his "game" as a reward for pooping in the potty. He'll ask, can I keep learning? when prompted on Khan Academy and I go why yes my dear, you can certainly keep on learning lol! BTW potty isn't going too well here. Ugh! I feel like every time we hit a streak, he regresses. I am starting to worry now that his ability to "hold" his poop is affecting his feeling of wanting to go on his own. We feel so defeated and we've come to a point to let him choose his reward because well, the gummy bears didn't last long. He still gets one when he goes and he also gives everyone one too, then he gets 2 dried mango slices and gets to watch a show or play a game on the ipad. Oy! I am running out of ideas if all the above stop working. I also missed your poof. Is this on the Andaman side again? Glad you were able to get away for a bit before lock down and I know they're serious about lock downs unlike here which is a complete joke and yet people complain about it; which is why we're still not in good shape, all things considered and nearing 600K deaths. *rant over

duskymonkey Congrats on getting your vaccine!!! I can’t wait to get mine when we are back this summer. For all the ways the USA has screwed up during the pandemic, the one bright spot if the availability of vaccines. It’s not like that in other places, and I wish more of the u.s. population embraced getting vaccinated. Sigh. Also - we stayed in the gulf of Thailand. Omg I can’t even imagine reaching a hand in. The bees are long gone. They stayed 3 days with us and 1 day with the neighbor. I was lucky enough to arrive home with DS2 as they were moving on and hundreds of them were buzzing in the air and flying around our face.

duskymonkey both job prospects are in state but one of the things worrying us is the housing situation! We could sell our house no problem because it comes with land but H is adamant he won’t live “in town” and I’m pretty certain with house and land prices around here we would be stuck living in a tent 🤦♀️ Taitai it looks beautiful. Snow is forecasted for this Wednesday here. That’s late even for the Midwest. Send some sunshine our way please. curmudgeon if we end up staying here we will probably start some hives on our property. It’s actually a thing our kids could “show” in 4H here when the girls are older. They love helping jar the honey in late summer with the inlaws and checking the hives when we visit.

danvers that would be really cool if you had hives and the girls got to help! How much land do you have? I am too chicken to get near bees, but there are several local honey farms around. Local mom & pop hardware stores usually sell the honey and it is always better than the regular stuff at the store.

We’ve got a handful of pear and apple trees on our property plus the previous owners had massive flower gardens - it would be a bees parodies here. H is pretty sure the guy who owns the land behind us would let us plant clover on the edge of his field for bees too. I don’t even like honey but I do love what they do for my flowers and fruit trees. Every time we study the plight of honeybees in my class I get reinvigorated towards this plan of H’s too

Taitai that's incredible that there's no one around and love how gently the beach slopes. I looked into Koh Lipi and totally yes would go there when we go to Langkawi. Yes such a 180 with the vax. Imagine what a functioning government is able to do in a crisis. I shiver thinking we would be another Brazil if the last government was still at the helm. I am back to being absolutely terrified for the kids now. Not for nothing, I now seriously wonder if data is unreliable regarding Covid and kids due to the fact that most parents are likely to be protective of their children and to the best of their abilities will limit situations/activities of potential exposure to the virus.

duskymonkey I just felt like a had a mild hangover the day after the shot. My DH does not qualify yet which is scary with the third wave hitting manufacturing and warehousing really hard. curmudgeon I enjoyed reading about your bee saga. We had a multi day drama a few summers ago where a bunch of bees took over a tree right beside a well loved playground. Taitai That beach looks amazing! Glad you could squeeze a trip in before lockdown. The UK variant is hitting us really hard too.

We are getting hit hard by the third wave and they put more ineffective lockdown measures in place, the roads are just as busy as usual so it’s clear that it’s not being followed. The government doesn’t want to make hard choices and make strict restrictions even though our ICU’s are full and covid related admissions are rising. Vaccine roll out is a cluster fuck and they still have no date or plan to get essential workers vaccinated. Deaths are down but rising and it’s younger and healthier people that are dying. It’s a lot of manufacturing and warehouses that are having outbreaks because the UK variant is spreading much easier. I did not get the job I wanted, I failed the interview but then was told that they are not giving the job to anyone due to some unknown reason. I have an informal discussion tomorrow about the interview. And I get to have the experience of doing virtual school and working from home starting tomorrow. The daycares are still open so I will send the little one.
Finally tomorrow is DD1s 6th birthday and second covid birthday, I promised her a big party for her 7th, I feel so bad. We are going to bake a cake and she asked for teal icing because that is her current favorite colour. My mom and sister are going to drop by later today to have a social distanced visit and drop off birthday presents.

There is a slow-moving stomach bug moving though the house right now.
DD2 had it this past weekend and it seems to have moved into DD1 now. It’s midnight here and I’m knee deep in laundry and rubbing her back while she tries to go back to sleep. I cannot believe I haven’t gotten it yet because DD2 stayed inches from my face most of the weekend in between being sick. I’m about to go write sub plans once DD1 settles. Preparing for sick days as a teacher sucks because you can never just “call in sick” and so I’ll be headed in to my school in a few hours to make sure the copies are laid out for the day too.
And state standardized testing starts this week too... because of course that’s the appropriate government response to learning in a global pandemic 😑
