WaPo is reporting defense rests? After only one day?? They been going since Tuesday, so 2?
Closing arguments to start Monday.
Jury is getting a long weekend and will be sequestered.

I think the prosecution did a great job but I just have a pit in my stomach about all of it.

I think the prosecution did a great job but I just have a pit in my stomach about all of it. having watched 98%ish of the trial, I dont think the defense did a very good job of bringing reasonable doubt.
other than blaming George Floyd for his own death

I agree. I just feel like I can't give myself hope right now because of how enraged I felt after the trial for Philando Castile's murderer (blanking on his name). Like if I expect worse, it will be even better if it is a conviction.

I agree that the prosecution did well. Something that is giving me some hope in terms of a different result is that seemingly everyone on the MPD testified against him.
Although I'm somewhat conflicted on this because it feels like MPD doing a "bad apple acting against policies" thing which is clearly not the full explanation, but on the other hand, he needs to go to jail and whatever gets him there.

the planning of police dept near me for "unrest" following the announcement has me concerned. Lots of wagons for potential arrests etc
so what I meant to say is I know major cities are gearing up for anything that could happen as a result of any type of announcement. The more you get amped for trouble the more you "see it".

Jury instructions and closing argument time. The judge really emphasized the "doing what a reasonable officer would do" comparison portion.

the prosecution is doing a fantastic job. This is not a police prosecution, this is not the state vs police, its the state v chauvin

Sundae that's good he emphasized that part. Definitely not what a reasonable officer would do.

He was comparing defending a case to making cookies. You need each and every ingredient (element of the crime), without 1 you dont get cookies of a conviction

Wait is she serious? WTF? I switched over to Jen so I missed that. but WTF From what I can gather from replies/other tweets, he was trying to make some kind of analogy with needing all the ingredients.

Also trying to make an argument that a reasonable person would think that kneeling on the neck of ANY human being for NINE minutes wouldn't cause death is something.

HOLY FUCK Defense is bringing the fact that the witness who told Chauvin he hopes he gets home safely as some sort of honor badge or something Trying to differentiate between perception and perspective.
like there is no disputing that George Floyd died and PEOPLE saw it. FFS

The utter callousness the defense has for George Floyd's last breath is astounding.

I keep trying to remind myself that the defense attorney is doing his job and he doesn’t have much to work with. I just can’t stop rolling my eyes at every sentence

Furthermore, I'm almost POSITIVE that if Chauvin is convicted he is going to appeal on ineffective counsel.

Furthermore, I'm almost POSITIVE that if Chauvin is convicted he is going to appeal on ineffective counsel. I’m wondering how successful an appeal will be just based on all the COVID restrictions put in place; limited jury pool, etc...
