Do you have a personal laptop/computer in addition to your work laptop?
Methinks I should get one - I find, quite often, that I want to go to a website (today it was the Sirius XM site to renew my free trial) and it's blocked by my work's dumb firewalls. Of course, I can access stuff on my phone but I sometimes want the old keyboard typing situation.
Do you have a personal laptop you love and recommend?

Yes'm, and I always do HPs. They have been my favorite and the least likely to have issues. Mine is pretty old, so I don't know the current model.
I will say I don't use it very much anymore. I used to FB all the time on it and play games, but now I hate desktop FB and only use my phone, and I rarely play computer games anymore. Main use now is telehealth appts for me or DS.

This is timely. I’ve never had a laptop and decided I want one this year. I’m really interested in a MacBook Air, but they’re pricey. I’m turning 30 this year and am telling myself to just treat myself and splurge.

Yes, I have my own laptop for non work use. My personal laptop sits on top of my work one in my office during my work time and I use it for Youtube, Audible, etc. It's a Macbook pro that's about 7 years old. I am going to replace it this year with an iPad Pro with the magic keyboard.

I need one. The microsoft Surface Pro 7 is currently at the top of my list. My dad, very kindly, offered to send me a very old one*he had kicking around, which I accepted.
*like whoa old. It doesn’t get updates anymore and won’t run current apps but it will surf and do light word processing which is what I need. But its free and a way for my dad to feel like he’s still taking care of me so here we are. If it ends up not being functional I will pick up the surface. Also, my dad’s retirement hobby is picking up refurbished electronics that are ‘steals and deals’ so my mom is thrilled the herd is being thinned.

I have an ancient hp that I use. I mostly only use websites. My mowing program is a website, my medical coding class is online, and what little the kids use out for school is online too. I do have Microsoft office but rarely use it these days. It's slow and I'm ready to replace it but it's also 8.5 years old and still works so I won't complain about that. H used to take it with him when he traveled so who knows what beating it took then. Now it lives on my desk.

Yep, I have a dell laptop. My H is in IT so he picked it out. I’ve had it since fall 2019 and no issues.

My vote will always be MacBook but Mh is a PC. His personal computer is a Surface Pro.

Yes, but it is a million years old so I almost never use it. I got it in 2011 ☹️
I have an iPad that I use for when my phone is too small for whatever I’m doing. That said, I’ve been toying with getting a chromebook or something else super simple. I’d just use it for photos, some editing and email. It would just be easier to type and navigate.

We have had Dell and HP with no issues. We also never had to do any upgrades.
I have a cheap Asus again no issues. We have Chromebooks with no issues. They all do what we've needed them to do.
We did have a convertible touch screen, tablet, to PC one and it's nice but we do not use the touch screen and never did and that was a waste for us.

We have a Chromebook for non-work purposes. It’s great for browsing the internet and listening to music, but if I were to do it again, I’d get a PC laptop with Office. It’s tricky to do any real word processing or fill out PDF forms on the CB. I regularly have to head down to the basement to use the desktop in H’s office to do that sort of stuff.

This is me as well, I don't really like my Chromebook for practical purposes. Also, my work laptop (and email) is on lockdown so not much I could do personally on it.

I just bought myself an Air and I love it. how much memory did you go with? I have a lot of photos to upload and organize and was thinking 1TB. It may be cheaper to go with a smaller storage space and get a good external hard drive. I store all of my pics on an external hard drive so I never need to worry about my computer dying and it doesn't slow down my computer either.

I have a Lenovo ideapad 310 that I bought in 2017 from Costco for personal use, with WFH now it's been doing everything for work and personal for a year with no issues.

Super easy.

Another vote here for Acer. They are reasonably priced, and I’ve had two now that were great.

Yes. I do not treat my work laptop like my personal one. I don’t save personal files there or access 90% of websites from it. My phone is also not connected to my work’s wifi and does not run their programs.
I have a Lenovo as my personal computer.

Do not want my district to have access to my personal devices.

I have a Dell that saw me through the 2016 and 2018 elections (I was on field so it got a lot of use) and is still going strong. H has a Surface.
I do use my work laptop for a lot because my boss doesn't care as long as we don't abuse the freedom, but for stuff like message boards I use my phone.

Yes, because an email went out about not using it for personal use. I think some people were using them for second jobs. I do enough questionable things so I didn't need this to be a reason I'm terminated.

My son's would both suggest you get a really nice samsung tablet with a stand and click on real keyboard. Cause they use those for most of their website and personal stuffs now instead of a laptop but they carry theirs around all the time, so the lightweight tablet instead of laptop makes a difference.
I have a lenovo z50, if I got a new laptop I'd get a ssd so it's faster and buy the higher one for features that you can afford so it won't be obsolete as fast. With lenovo if you put one in your cart and wait a few days they'll usually send you a discount code. lol. but shipping is slow if you buy from actual site. We all have lenovo laptops that last for years and years and years. dh is using one of the kid's hand me downs, cause he used to do everything on his work laptop.

I bought an Acer chromebook that I use for personal stuff. Separate from my teaching job, I write and submit articles using Google docs and have a web-based scoring job on the side, so everything I do requires internet only and no real storage. If that's all you're looking to do, this is a very cheap and functional option.

MH insisted on this fancy laptop with touch screen. To be fair to him, he does do some hand drawn drafting for stuff hut not enough imo to warrant the cost. Other than that we never use the touch screen and when ds2 stepped on it and cracked the screen (mh left it in a terrible spit so totally on him) i flipped when I found out how much to replace the screen. Not worth it.

I’m not a Mac person I have an HP and it’s great.
I also second getting an external hard drive rather than saving everything on your phone. There is a chance your computer will crash plus it slows the computer down.
